Xavier - he can steal the one thing people can’t buy. Danica - con artist extraordinaire.
He grew up in a dark place, needing to use a mysterious special ability he developed to protect himself. He soon realized that the same ability could provide…other things for him too.
But then Xavier gets into a situation where even his special skills can’t save him.
Growing up on the streets taught her to be quick, savvy, and ruthless. Her stunning good looks helped her out of a few tight situations too. Now she's on the run, but she needs to decide if she's running away from Xavier...or toward him?
Xavi may not have the sexy job or money as his brother Ryder from the first book, but this book is hotter!
This book is about the second brother Xavier, who was three years old when the mother Shirley was killed, and Father Drake was shot multiple times. Drake had to send his four children away to separate homes for their own safety from evil organization Oculus (sort of the Hydra of this world). Drake’s second in command, Vance Berkeley was the one person who knew what families the children were placed with, but he was murdered by Oculus. So Drake has been searching ever since.
Apparently at one time Drake must have had a short affair with Mrs. Berkeley. Possibly before he was married to Shirley, because we know he was devoted to her. Anyway he now thinks she might know something or there might be something at her house that was overlooked which may lead him to his boys. So he goes to see her and starts up another affair with her though he feels guilty about it, he will basically do anything to find his boys before Oculus does.
Xavi was given to an assistant to a director in some governmental capacity but she didn’t keep the job for long and never got another job. She ended up a drug addict who rarely fed Xavi and he was eventually taken away from her and moved from one foster home to another until he aged out at 18. He now works as a clerk at a BDSM dungeon where people come in and pay to be Dom’s or Sub’s. He is able to stop time, so whenever someone comes in with a good credit card (Platinum, Black), he stops time and writes down the numbers for himself.
On the way to work every day he stops in front of this house that has a sign offering psychic readings. He doesn’t know why he is drawn to that house. Inside is a girl named Danika who, with her friend Twila scam people out of their money using the internet, tarot cards, palm reading and so on.
After a client dies in a crazy situation at the dungeon and Xavi is drawn into the mess, he has to get rid of the body and somehow ends up parked in front of Danika’s house. The situation gets even crazier from there. Suffice it to say the romance is sizzling, the action is non-stop, and I loved it all. Plus Xavi is smokin hot 🥵!
The story of Drake Conway’s search for his sons continues with his hunt for Xavier. Has he finally found the clue he needs to possibly finding where Xavier was sent almost 3 decades ago?
While Drake is looking for him, Xavier is caught in a tenuous situation which may lead to his own arrest as an accomplice to murder. While struggling with finding a resolution to his problems, he is mysteriously drawn to Danica Cortez, an accomplished scam artist. They have to decide if they will be able to trust each other, and whether they can stay together; all while they are fighting to stay ahead of the tenacious tentacles of Oculus.
As you continue to read the series, you will find yourself drawn deeper into the story, anxious to find out how the tale unfolds. This story is fast paced, flows effortlessly, and will definitely keep your interest. The characters are easy to connect with and have off-the-charts chemistry.
Chloe Fischer writes an intense, intriguing, suspenseful romance. Her stories are real page turners, full of action and emotions, with strong characters. I definitely recommend this book and series!
This is the first book I have read from this author and it is the second in the series. I can be read as a standalone as the author introduces the past before delving into what is technically the second son, Xavier’s story. Thirty years have passed and Drake, Xavier’s father, is looking for his children. Xavier is working as a security officer for a brothel and at times indulges in some illegal practices. Danica is a con artist and it seems as if she has a lot in common with Xavier. The two are drawn to each other and their chemistry is hot. It reads a bit like a soap opera with all of the pieces at play. Can Drake find his son in time before it is too late? Will Danica be able to figure out why a total stranger is getting under her skin and into her thoughts? This is one book you need to read for yourself filled with a little paranormal and intrigue and I plan on going back and reading the first one. I volunteered to read an advance copy of this book.
This book has as much excitement as book one. I liked this book better because the heroine is much more agreeable to what is happening. She is more likable to me than Paige from book one. Drake takes every step available to him to track down his boys, but this is Xavier's book. He was the second born child of Drake. He mostly grew up in foster homes after he was found as a neglected seven year old on the streets of Harlem. He now works in a Dom/sub dungeon as the money taker. He steels the client's credit card information. When one of the female workers gets herself into a bind, he helps her. But the bind involved a dead body. Danica is a con artist. She has seen Xavier walk by and look at her place of business but he never stops. She sees him outside Ina car early one morning. Her life is never the same after that. Oculus is still after the Conway boys. The twist is that Danica is working for them without realizing who they really are.
O.k, I'm hooked. The fast page turning action of "Hard Time" Bk2, Xavier and Danica's story is without a doubt an exciting quick read, that leave's you wanting more. Another lost son found, another love embraced, a father's unending fight for revenge & the need to end an injustice perpetrated against him & his family, using any means at his disposable. (even hurting those's that he truly does care for) I'm looking forward to reading Bk3, Xander's story & hoping to learn more about the group "Oculus", that has spent year's hunting for the son's of Drake. If your looking for a quick action packed read, then look no further. O.k, that's not right! I would recommend you start with "Hard Instincts" Bk1 first, then this. Well done Ms Chloe Fischer, looking forward to more of your well written pulse jumping work.
“Hard Time” is the second book in the series, the first being “Hard Instincts”. It's not necessary to read the first book but I would recommend you do as it adds more to your reading experience. Drake is still looking for his sons after 28 years. He has found Ryder and this is Xavier, the second son's story. Xavier is working security for a brothel and his particular paranormal talent is being able to stop time for two minutes. He meets Danica a con artist and they join forces. Will Drake be able to find his son before the evil Oculus does? “Hard Time” is as intriguing, suspenseful, steamy and romantic as the first book. One-click to continue reading this amazing series. A wonderful book about a man called drake who was married and had 4 sons. His wife ends up killed by oculus and his sons are taken away to keep them safe.
He ends up finding his son Xavier and his friend danica. Xavier is a con artist and runs a sex place with a woman and the woman kills someone in self defense and he meets danica while trying to get rid of the body, when he parks outside his place.
Its a book about having boys who are special and a group called oculus who want the boys because of this. Its about trying to find all drakes boys again after so many years. Thankyou i loved your book. I look forward to seeing what happens next.

I received this book for a voluntary, completely honest and non incentivized review. Having said that, I was not aware before hand that this book had paranormal tendencies which I am not a fan of. So based on that I would have rated this book a 3. But since it wouldn’t be fair to rate based on genre preference, I rated based on the other stuff. The characters are good and the plot is well developed. I have not and will probably not read the 1st book of this series, but I was not lost in translation as the author does a great job at bringing you up to speed. For those who enjoy suspense and paranormal love stories, this is right up your alley.
A very good read from a new to me author that I really enjoyed reading ! First off I loved Xavier his name and character I think the difference in his unusual name really made him stand out to me and then his skill set also gave me a very interesting description of him and then Danica another very unique name that I have only come across in one other book that I read when I was younger and her ability to get someone to believe anything was just written so well! I loved this story the characters and the storyline it kept my attention and as difficult to put down! This author has a new fan!! Highly recommended!! **I voluntarily reviewed a Advanced Reader Copy of this book **
This book is a change-up from the style of romances that I normally read, but I still really enjoyed it. The book is the second in a series, but I haven't read the first book and still fully enjoyed this one.
Hard Time is gripping from the start of the prologue and the story line is filled with strong characters, suspense and drama. In addition to the love story between Xavier and Danica, there is also a paranormal element to the plot, so really there's a bit of something for everyone.
I'm interested to see what will happen in the next book and now that I'm invested in the story, I'm going to go back and read book 1. :)
I really hate leaving bad review. If there was a bit more organization, this would probably be a much better review. Maybe it's just me, but this was a very confusing story. From the beginning, the story bounces from person to person with very little, if any, notice. I get that Drake is looking for his sons that have been missing for twenty years, and I get that Xavier is having some major problems, but the different stories all run together where I'm completely lost and have gotten some of the stories mixed up with the wrong characters.
Danica escaped home to get away from her abusive father. Xavier learned early on to only depend on himself. Both have shaded pasts. Will Xavier ever learn the truth behind his past? Will Danica finally discover someone she can count on?
This is the second book in the series, but can be read alone since it tells the back story. I liked the basis of this story and thought it was a good read. I liked how Danica went with her gut and how Xavier while jaded still showed he had a heart at times. Good read and will definitely read the first in the series!

I had a really hard time getting into this one. Maybe if I had read book 1 it wouldn't have been so confusing. The plot had potential; however, there were too many stories running at once in my opinion. I had to make myself finish reading. I couldn't relate to the characters. It was like you weren't with them long enough to learn about them. Don't get me started on the cliffhanger....you just fell off the cliff with no warning. There wasn't a HEA at the end. It just ended.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book....
This is book 2 of the series, the first book Drake unwillingly brought the wrong people to his door who first killed his wife then took his 4 boys. In this book one Xavier who is one of his sons is a thief. Danica is a con-artist, what will happen when these two paths meet? I thought is was a good book but I didn't read book 1 only a prologue to it. I am however going back to read book 1 because the storyline in this one was so interesting.
I am voluntarily reviewing a copy of this book that I received for free.
Hard Time, the second book in the Hard Series, follows along the same lines as Hard Instincts. With an ALPHA male lead, the willing but flawed woman to love, ans enough suspense to leave the reader hanging on.
This book was just not for me. I didn’t care for the presentation at all. The storyline was somewhat convoluted; the characters just didn’t resonate for me; and there was no HEA—just a set up for the next book in the series. Sorry...🙁 (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and didn’t care for it at all.)
What a thrilling read. The storyline flows easily and is well-written.There are touches of the unknown, terrific characters, some violence, mystery, and intrigue. I loved the story and the characters and was engaged throughout the book. Well Done Chloe. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
When I started reading this book i didn't realize it was a paranormal genre. I don't usually read this type of book as I prefer books closer to reality. However, after this discovery I continued to read if because I did find it interesting and I wanted to find out what would happen to the couple and their love story. It was a good read and the storyline was interesting. Glad I finished it.
Amazing read. Very well written story with great storyline and plot. The characters are well described and develops nicely. A book with lots of chemistry, passion, hot scenes and emotional ups and downs. Very intertaining and enjoyable read.
The story flows nicely and it is very captivating.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
Xavier's story…I enjoyed this as much as the first part (Ryder) but it did not have the same pace. Would not have missed this book as I am now so looking forward the twins story as well as Ocululus getting their comeuppance. Love Chloe's books
Very entertaining, captivating, and interesting read. I could not put it down. Wonderfully written with strong characters. I want to read more from this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Second book in the series, OMG, this is awesome, I couldn't put it down, it held my interest from the very first page, it's well written and the characters are fabulous
I rec'd a copy and voluntarily leave my own thoughts
This is the first book I've read by Chloe Fischer and thought she did a great job writing this book. The characters and storyline were different from the magic, con artist, romance and so much more. I voluntarily received this book to review for my honest opinion.
Hard Time by Chloe Fischer is the second in the Hard Series, this book is about Danica, a con artist and Xavier, a thief, both grew up in a hard situation and how their life takes a turn when they both cross paths. I enjoyed the story which I received an ARC and voluntarily reviewed it.
I did enjoy this story some suspense supernatural and romance great storyline and characters I definitely want to read the rest of this series I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
