"And her heart was a looking glass
to all the things that drove her mad."

Many thanks to the author who kindly send me this book in exchange of an honest review.

I've read a lot of poetry books, and I have to admit that this wasn't one of my favorites. BUT. The writing was SO, SO (...) SO good! I loved it! Beautiful images, and it was smooth, and gosh, perfect.
I really think that poetry is kind of personal. I mean, one book can speaks to your soul, and some may not like it at all. But that's the whole beauty of it. That's why reviewing poetry is difficult.
But I really hope that if you're reading this book, you'll enjoy it as I did.

Originally, I gave this 3 starts because there were only a few poems that I felt really resonated with me. However, poetry is so subjective and just because something may not speak to me personally, doesn't mean it won't speak to someone else. So, I adjusted my rating to 4 stars because all of these poems were truly beautiful in their own way.

The poems were all fairly short so this was a pretty quick read for me, and a pretty enjoyable one. If you're a fan of poetry, I think this could be worth the read. I believe there is a little something for everyone in this book.

First of all, I would like to say thank you to the author for sending me this book in exchange for honest review :)

3.5/5 stars

I have been thinking a lot on how to actually review this book. Because It’s hard.
I really love some of the poetry of this book. But at the same time there are also poetry that I don’t feel the connection with. Maybe because of the writing?
Don’t get me wrong, the writing is so beautiful and I feel every poetry is thoughtfully and beautiful written.
But, the issue here is ME who is not use to reading this kind of style of poetry. Those popular contemporary poems (e.g Milk & Honey, Your Soul is A River, etc) are I would say easier to understand. It’s like, you get it right away what the author try to communicate.
But this book is different. It requires more thinking process to actually get what’s the message behind it :)
So I think, people who really love words, a poet, and maybe someone who understand poetry would enjoy this book.

I agree with many of the other reviews. It is hard to rate because all poetry is beautiful in its own way. I personally did not connect with this book as I have with some other poetry books I have read. A lot of the poems did seem personal to the author which made it difficult to understand/relate. Almost every poem in the book I read multiple times to try and dive deeper, often times not gaining any ground. Not to say there weren’t any I enjoyed. I really enjoyed Familiar Scent and Brittle Night. I hope this author continues to write because I can tell he is passionate about writing. I also have “Dodge The Rain” which I will still be reading next.

- there the rain softly falls, where all it touches shimmers into a few things we never left -

At first, thankyou so much for the author of this book who had given me a chance to read it and sent this book to me, i really love the cover so much (besides it is a black of course:) ) like always when it comes to poetry book, doesn't take long for me to finish it, i think this book really has the actual poetry writing style, which means it's rare than the most of current poetry books which have the 'so easy writings to understand' recalling like some old poetry books or i mean classics, this book has one of that style, but of course it's in modern way, I really got another experience, so glad to find out there's poetry book like this one, in this time, although i have the urge to learn and stomach every words, written in this book, but it's so much fun :)

This was a simple poetry collection that has a lot of beautiful imagery and symbolism with birds, trees, and nature. I wasn't blown away by the collection, but I found it to be quite good. It's a quick read with some strong poems. I love the title poem of this collection and think this is something newer poetry readers will absolutely love and adore. There is a good mix of long and short poetry, which is a good change of pace from the quick snippets that have gotten popular over the last several years. This is free on Kindle Unlimited, so it's definitely one to pick up if you want to read some poetry for National Poetry Month.

The poetry was short and sweet. The poems weren't as saccharine as I feared they would be. There was enough somber realism in each that made them feel relatable, even if I didn't have comparable experiences.

Before we begin, I would like to thank the author, K.C. Kemp for sending me this poetry book in exchange for an honest review!

Actual Rating: 3.75/5 stars

This poetry book is much like many of the poetry books out there nowadays that are incredibly popular, such as Milk & Honey, Whiskey Words and a Shovel volumes, Love Her Wild, and so many more, so if you enjoy those styles of poetry, you will enjoy this one. These poems deal with love and sorrow, ranging from losing loved ones to admiring those you have come to love.
Sometimes, these poems seem more like a super short story rather than a poem, but overall, I loved the images created in every poem and that it really made you think about what the author was actually saying. I don’t read very much poetry, but for me, I enjoyed the stories the author hid and made seen in most of these poems even if I did not really relate to these poems like I have with others. If you like the type of poems that are free verse and read more like stories, then you will enjoy this book.

"My mind
Often wanders
So far
Just for a moment
I lose t.
But like a loyal dog
It always turns up in the end."

With favourites like Rupi Kaur, R.M. Drake and Atticus setting the bar for contemporary, short poetry, I was pleasantly surprised by this book.
The author seemed to find their own lane, combining strong themes of nature with subtle elements of fantasy throughout.
The book kept me captivated, and while I do prefer a collection of poetry to be grouped in a way that tells a story, or has a clear reasoning behind its order (I couldn't seemed to find one here), I still thoroughly enjoyed what I read, and marked quite a few poems to come back to.
A quick and pleasant read, it will be hard not to find something that resonates with you within these pages, and Kemp is worthy of any future success.

~Disclaimer: I received this book for free~

Poetry is so subjective. What appeals to one person might not do it for another person.

Even within this collection there were some poems I enjoyed and other that didn't strike the right cord.

For example:

"Behind a madman’s house,
under a wild red rose
where a young girl fell
down a rabbit’s hole;
lost in a land of wonder."

I love references to Alice in Wonderland. Something about them just works for me.

There are poems that reference classic works, that talk about love, that talk about beauty ect.

Give it a shot if that strikes your fancy and skip it if it doesn't.

I won this book of poetry via a Goodreads giveaway. Thank you, Mr. Kemp, for sending me a signed copy.
I enjoyed reading this poetry but some of it seemed almost too personal for me to fully understand. That being said, I enjoyed the flow and artistry of the poetry greatly and it lead to deep imagery when I could personally connect to it. I am not normally a reader of poetry so this book of poetry has lead me to want to indulge in more poetry! That alone says much about this book of poems, I think. If I had hated it, I wouldn't want to read more poetry at all.

I was sent this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is no way affects my opinions.

On the whole, I really liked this collection. There were lines and whole poems that I felt very connected to, and then some others that I just plain loved. But then there were a couple that I just didn't get or didn't connect to at all. So all in all, I did really like this. (In an unrelated note, the cover is gorgeous).

Struggled to connect with some of the longer, more metaphorical poems, but there were a few lines that will haunt me in the best possible way.

"The burden of time vanishes into obsession without apology.
How all things drop hard and heavy in and out of nowhere. That’s nothing new.
And for all the hardships of this world, the honesty within us will prevail.
Inhale the hurricane."

"But my friend, resilience is sown in ruin."

Incredible and Beautiful Poetry.

This collection was a pleasure to read. Some of the poems are gorgeous and only got better with a second or third reading. Lines like:

If you give me reason not to love you,
I will love you without reason.

and

I may drown in you and you in I.
As that’s the only way lovers make it.

Stopped me in my tracks. Highly recommended!

I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway.

I write poetry so I enjoy reading other poet's works. Thank you, K.C. Kemp for sharing your collection.

The poems were short and straightforward. The titles reflected the poem. I particularly liked the nature poems.
