OMG...this journey that Elodie & Alan take just took my breath away. The way Alan loved Elodie-how he looked at her-made love to her was beyond swoon-worthy!!! SOOOOOOOOO DEVOTED; SWEET; HOT! Plus, I just love historical romances. 👅🔥😘💜🙌🏾❤️

Emotional and Uplifting....

Wow.... this is the first book I have read by this author - not my usual genre, but I am really glad that I read it. Such a classy, Intriguing profound and well developed story that is brilliantly detailed, with great memorable characters that grabbed hold of my heart and would not let go. I admire this author's realistic writing style and her ability to draw the reader in. I have no hesitation what so ever in reccomending this novel. A MUST read. Thank you KQ 😁

I can't get enough of these kinds of romances

I literally will never get enough of beautiful dark skin bw as heroines of romances novels. Yes I have said this in a review before lol. But it's just. It makes me so happy? like it's my favorite entertainment. because I got into romance like a seven months ago and I finally found the romances that suit ME. I loveeee Elodie. And here's the thing in bwwm, the women are always so resourceful, intelligent, and quick witted (like bw are!!) and it makes them so interesting as characters on the page. It's even MORE rewarding when the man saves them because of that. Alan was so good to Elodie and I love how he just expressed so much concern and kindness. I also LOVEDDDDD their chemistry and the spicy scenes were MWAHH. I'm talking 100/100 satisfying to read. I think some of these authors are reading MY MIND and then putting it on paper lol. Anyways love this and love the ending. I only took one star off for something really really simple in the epilogue...a description of a house to be exact. Because I wanted it to be FANCY not comfortable. But you will have no idea what I mean until you read this entire fantastic riveting story. and yes it is RIVETING I was holding my breath the entire time. it wasn't just romance it was something fast paced and tense and hot. also I love the character descriptions. black hair for both characters, check yes.

Well-written and exciting story. This is the first book I've read of Kendra Queen's and I was very enthralled with this book. I love period pieces dealing with the pirate era, love pirate stories, but this actually didn't really have much of a pirate story, but more of well-thought out love story between Elodie and Alan. The author took great care in setting the pace and giving the reader something rich to digest, a solid story, so much that you feel like you're watching everything play out like a movie. I really could see a story like this turned into a movie. It was quite enchanting and you know a romance book is good when the first love scene doesn't even happen until you're halfway through the book! Each scene is written with such a sensual way, just dirty enough, but not overboard and I really loved how Kendra told this delicate story about a runaway slave who finds love with a white (sort of?) former pirate who ends up washing ashore near her hiding place on an island. I also like how the author ties in historical facts that happened around this time with her story, it wasn't simply a romance novel. It was..shall I say, deeper than that even. You'll see. Read this book!

Just something about having two people alone on an island together just really gets me. And Kendra painted an effervescent picture of the love story between Elodie and Alan, really bringing out the romantic in me. And I love a good slow burn romance. It is a must read historical romance about a determined pirate, a runaway slave, with nothing between them but a bag of black pearls, on the island that now goes by Haiti.
Elodie is a gentle would who knows the hardness and horrors of life as a slave. Now living day by day in a rundown shack on the cliffs near the sea. Alan is a pirate, the son of a Viscount, cheated of his inheritance by his wretched uncle. Shipwrecked on the Island of St. Domingue, he has nothing but his life and the stolen bag of black pearls from his uncle's ship. Elodie finds him, and against her better judgement, nurses him back to health in her little hut. And so begins their love story, with the danger of revenge and the intolerance of their union just on the wind, and ready to separate them from a hidden paradise.
I loved it, please read it!!!!

Friends...

I found the story captivating. A great mixture of action, adventure, betrayal, pain and most of all love. Alan and Elodie were really interesting characters. Their passionate lovemaking was so 🔥🔥🥵 🥵 spicy 🌡️🌡️. Elodie was a strong and loyal woman who believed in her family and friends and would stick by them. I can't forget about Bisou. I really enjoyed Bisou throughout the book. My emotions were all over the place with Alan and Bisou. I was a little 😿 eyed. I don't want to spoil the story. Worth reading. My first time reading your book. I look forward to the next one.🥰

Good

Okay, so idk buy I expected it to be more pirate-like, like the meet on the beach escape to become pirate both to escape their sh*tty lives behind. That's NOT it. It was a doesn't book if u like the genre. I feel like there could have been something more but it overall was a good story. However. It didn't fully do it for me simply because I'm not a fan of the slave narrative historical fictions, and it was less of an escaping tragedy and onto adventure either perils kind of romance. I will be checking out her other books tho.

Hmmmm

I was debating should I give this book a 2 or a 3 but because I liked the characters I pulled it up to a 3. It moved slow for me and I found myself skimming pages a great deal maybe not skimming but speed reading. It wasn't the greatest read but it wasn't the worst either.

The was a great read! My first time giving Kindle Unlimited romances a read and I enjoyed it. I like the writing style and this being written by a black author showed the care she took with her characters and subject matter.

Good Black Pearl

This was a nice and pleasant story. A few typos, but overall good storytelling elements. I love the build of the relationship between Allen and Elodie and glad to see they made it after so much.

More of a slave story on the island of Saint Domingue (modern day Haiti) than a romance tale.
