Lydia arrives in the town of Ivory looking forward to a small town life-style after working 12 hour days in a restaurant in "the big city". She's worn out, both mentally and physically, and feels that starting a new job in the tiny Amy's bakery would help her find what she's been looking for in her life.
Sean (aka Brash) has just been released from prison and has returned to the brotherhood of his MC club, the Black Reapers. He's feeling a bit lost after serving three years in prison and has begun to feel a sense of wanting more in his life.
The couple meet when Lydia's co-worker Gina invites her to go out after work with her to a town bar. Brash becomes instantly enthralled with Lydia, and what follows is a complicated, steamy story. Lydia becomes entangled in a dispute between Brash and Poison (a former member of a rival MC club and the brother of the man Brash killed.)
I have some mixed feelings about this story. While I enjoyed the interaction between Sean and Lydia, I almost felt like Brash had a split personality. One minute he was a sensitive, caring boyfriend, and the next, he was a heartless MC biker who shrugged off committing a murder. I wanted to shake Lydia at times. She struck me as someone suffering from depression, and she seemed to want to rationalize everything, including the murder committed by Brash. I got tired of the phrase "He may have committed a murder, but he did his time!" So as long as someone goes to prison for it, murder is ok? Uh... no.
There were some good, spicy scenes that helped drive the story forwards, but there were also some gratuitous sex scenes that (for me) merely detracted from the plot. Sexy scenes that stick out like a sore thumb should probably get edited out.
The plot had a little suspense worked into it, which did help to save it from its repetitiveness. I also liked the HEA at the end of the story. Overall, this book was just an ok read for me.
