Chance Washington only has a few things on his mind when he embarks on a trip back to his hometown. Completing the assignment for work that’s sending him there in the first place, helping his mom make progress on her fixer-upper home, and catching up with some of his best friends who he doesn’t get to see often enough. What is not a part of those plans is hooking up with one of his best friend’s little sister. But it doesn’t take long for him to realize that just because you walk into a game with a strategy, doesn’t always mean things are going to go as planned. Londyn Miller isn’t looking for a relationship; a casual fling more her thing after blowing through the limited dating options in her hometown. But when a handsome – familiar - face returns to town for an extended stay, the decision to pursue him for a little fun is an easy one; as long as she’s sure not to let that fun turn into real feelings while also managing to keep it all from her overprotective big brother. Just like Chance, Londyn quickly learns that plans and strategy can only get you so far before you’re forced to make in-game adjustments. And when those in-game adjustments evolve into something neither expected, it becomes a race for the finish line that Chance nor Londyn saw coming…

Chance and Londyn were a fun cat and mouse/forbidden love trope! There first night hookup was so sweet but whew did these two stress me out but they lived up to this title! Majority of the book Londyn was playing too much (as someone who plays in real life I say this was too much lol), and when she gets right Chance starts up! 😭 they lucky I enjoyed them and they’re was great sexual tension and acts in this book that reminded me Alexandra Warren doesn’t miss on that! I’m excited for book 2 and to continue my deep dive into Alexandra’s back catalogue!
I actually started listening to The Games We Play three months ago but, I stopped because I couldn't get into it. Interesting enough, I found it to be more entertaining the second time around. London was too immature for my taste. She liked to play games too much. Hence the title of hte book. This is why I don't like to read books with characters in their 20's. At the age I am, I can't relate to them. While I could barely tolerate London, I loved her and Chance as a couple. He was definitely more mature than her and it helped level out London's childishness. I honestly didn't get Eric's reaction when he found out London and Chance were dating. I guess I can understand him being upset about them not telling him in the beginning but, London was a grown woman. She didn't need his permission to date his bestie. The female narrator is listed as Morae Brehon. I don't know who Morae Brehon is but, I do know who Adenrele Ojo and that's who's narrating this book. I've listened to enough books narrated by her to recognize her voice. Maybe Morae Brehon is her pseudonym. I'm generally a fan of Leon Nixon but, I did not like his performance in this book. It just was not up to par with what I'm use to from him. Overall, The Games We Play was a pretty good read. I'm glad I went back and gave it a second chance. This was my first book by Alexandra Warren and I look forward to reading more from her.
Alexandra. Honey, listen. You placed your entire foot into this book. I don’t even know where to begin. Let’s start with your growth in writing. I more than enjoyed “In His Corner”, but this book bypassed and met every single romancy expectation of mine. When I thought you’d shy away from certain parts of the book & go another route, you shut me right on up & had me clutching my imaginary pearls. Chance & Londyn’s mouths are filthy! And, I loved every single word from both of them. You embodied their characters & their chemistry. Honestly, I’m in book hangover right now. Amazing job & I can’t wait to cop this bad boy in paperback when I see you in Dallas. 😊♥️
This was just an okay read for me. I got over these two really fast. I still don’t know why they’re are together other than their sexual attraction to each other. The only thing that check me going was the humor.
This is London and Chance’s love story, and I absolutely loved their banter. It was playful, flirty, and full of chemistry. London has always had a crush on her older brother’s best friend, Chance. While she was only looking for a situationship, Chance had his heart set on something real. And let’s just say... he definitely got what he wanted in the end.
Another really good read from Alexandra Warren! Loved Londyn and Chance. While we're used to the H having his stuff together and having some swagger, I absolutely loved that Londyn did, too, especially since she was still fairly young. She was very confident, but never too cocky or over the top with it. Like Chance, it took me a minute to understand Londyn and Khalid's relationship, and kept waiting for him to admit to having feelings for her...but, you'll have to read the book for yourself to see how that turns out, lol. Londyn and Chance got together pretty quickly, and their relationship progressed the same way, but things between them never felt rushed or unbelievable. Instead, it felt like they were meant to be, the time was right, and they were ready for each other
Lots of good side characters in this one. Annie and Ellen almost stole the show! I could hang with those two any day. Eric was intense, but overall a really good big brother. I liked Khalid, and once he explained his hesitation with Jayla, I fell a little bit in love with him. I hope he gets himself together soon. Michelle was ugh! Miss Ellen handled dismissing her like a boss, lol.
Chance and Londyns story was decent though I wished Londyn was a bit more mature. It’s more of a 3.5-3.75 read for me but I’m rounding up because because the story was enjoyable in most places.
At first I really enjoyed the push and pull between Chance and London, but then she just started to disrespect him. Why? Because he was going back home, once the company project was completed?
It was like, if Londyn couldn't get what she wanted, she could care less about Chance's feelings. Really selfish on her part.
But Khalid, her best friend, was hilarious. And he had no problem telling Londyn about herself, and the horrible way she was treating Chance!
This was my first book by this author and lets just say I'm very impressed. This book was a definitely a five star read for me I believe I related to this book so much because of the main character Londyn. Londyn A.K.A LoLo is my sprit animal, she's a girl who knows what she wants and goes and gets it she definitely does not beat around the bush! When Fine ass Chance comes to town LoLo waste no time marking her territory. Speaking of Chance Lawddddddd that man is now my new book bae I just loved him. Chance was a real man and was not about playing the games LoLo had in mind he put her in her place Expeditiously. Overall this was a fun, flirty, and Super cute Romance I would definitely recommend as your next read.
Londyn and Chance were cute together. Games were played and Londyn was annoying at times. Londyn’s mom had me laughing, she was a character. Loved the friendship with Londyn and Khalid.
This was my first book by the author and I enjoyed it. I thought she did a very good job writing a somewhat common storyline in a unique way. The story and characters were developed well and I was entertained. Alexandra showed the chemistry between Londyn and Chance so well and I was on edge waiting for the moment when Eric would find out like I was gone be in trouble 😂😂. I adored Londyn and Khalid friendship and MJ had me cracking up anytime he made an appearance. Ms. Annie was something else as well. I look forward to reading more books by her.
I love a good "forbidden love" theme! I really enjoyed this read and I swear I laughed the entire way through! I have so many highlighted sections where I just cackled! Also, Londyn is my spirit animal, so many scenarios presented, I screamed in my head "That's all me!". Super relate-able read complete with deep belly laughs, hot sex scenes, swoon-worthy couple, and HEA all things I consider a 5-star read! :-)
When I say this author wrote the heck out of this book I mean she raised the bar for 2018. Chance and Londyn were the right amount of fun, the right amount of spunk, & a double dose of love. I loved seeing them transition from lovers to a couple in love. Like where can I find a Chance? That Annie was hilarious and all her grey haired sass & BIWO moments. Loved her. If I could rate it higher I would.
I absolutely looovvveee Londyn and Chance! They were the perfect blend of casual and serious. I loved Londyn's smart mouth, but I loved how Chance could also make her speechless
Loved this book! It was fun to watch the games being played between Chance and Londyn. Chance was definitely bae and as always I loved the balance between romance and comedy. Great read!!!
I enjoyed everything about this book. The storyline was amazing. Great job Alexandra!!! I'll be on the lookout for Khalid and Jayla's story. I hope their up next. 😍
I'm a fan now. This is my introduction to Alexandra Warren and I'm not disappointed . The Games We Play is one of the cutest stories I've read in awhile. I found myself in my feels throughout (in a good way). I enjoyed the flow of the story, nothing felt rushed or skipped over.
Chance and Londyn friends to more relationship was organic and realistic. The progression into the more definitely emphasized they were not kids anymore and had been checking for each other for some time.
While I was light weight annoyed with the way Londyn handled their relationship , then I remember she was twenty something. According to my husband I was on the same type of nonsense during that phase of my life. I appreciate Chance's patience and the ability to give her the space that was needed for things to fall into place.
Shout out to my local library for having the audiobook for my enjoyment. Leon Nixon and Morae Brehon equally did they're thing with the narration which made it all that much more enjoyable.
Starting out, Londyn knew what she was, took it, but was childish with it also. Chance was a man, who respected her wishes. However, he should have put his foot down and man up to Eric from the go when he knew his feelings had evolved. They were too grown to be playing hide and seek and secret lovers, especially since they both were single. I like Khalid and how he didn't mince words with his best friend and kept it real with Lolo regarding her action and treatment of chance. I can understand Eric feeling caught off guard and to be mad about it, but his behavior was over the top since they were two grown a** people. Glad everything worked out in the end. Now, Mrs. Annie and Mrs. Ellen were a trip, with Mrs. Annie being a whole mess. She had me going. Good story.
I fell in love with Chance and Londyn's love story. They were childhood acquaintances due to Chance being bestfriends Londyn's brother Eric. They started out as just sexing until it developed to something way more meaningful for both of them. It was also good that their mothers, Annie and Ellen were really good friends who encouraged their relationship. I loved the way that Annie responded to Langston at the party and that Londyn got to see her parents enjoying each other. Khalid and Londyn had a very close friendship that I'm glad Chance wasn't insecure about and realized that they were just friends. I can't wait to see what's next in store for Khalid and Jayla.
Adult humor and content written in a refreshing voice. Loved the parents, best friends and sibling connections in this story. Loved that both mother and daughter were uninhibited and sexually free in a non derogatory way.
The book loves you wanting to know more about the parents and out spoken best friend who was the target of her desire in the past but became her best friend.
Everybody in this book was too much and popped off the pages of this romance. Great job Alexandria. It's a good thing when you can buy an author's book just because it's hers without even reading what it is about!
Okay, I live a very sheltered life. With that being said, initially I was thinking to myself, what in the world? The mama sent Londyn home with Chance to get the "hook up". I wasn't ready for that. These folks were off the chain. It is possible for men and women to have platonic relationships. By the end of the book I was a believer. This family clearly had a lot of internal stuff going on. I could understand how Eric felt the way he felt. I was shocked to find out who sent the picture. Upon that discovery, I shook my head because I should've known, lol. These mamas were something else. I got this book at IndieLove2019 as a recommendation.
Yass hunty! Chance is everything! I love how he loved Londyn out of her insecurities about relationships. He showed her how she deserved to be loved and didn’t allow her to fake her feelings and get away with it. Annie was everything! She was the cool but equally embarrassing mom. I’m also glad Michelle got her face cracked and didn’t get a lot of shine in the book. She was on my nerves from the first time she appeared. I can’t wait for Khalid and Jayla’s story because I know it’s coming. 😉 And Eric needs love, too.
Alexandra hit a homerun! Chance knows the rules. Do not mess with his best friends sister. Lolo is not the cutie he remembers. She is a full fledged grown woman. After a night with her mom and crazy aunts ; Chance gives her a chance. With a best guy friend and brother who ain't having it and an old flame ! This book might combust ! I love the playful dynamic of the couple. They really make reading this book enjoyable. Kudos to Ms. Warren for making these people likable, relatable and fun to get caught up in !!
