Shake Free: How to Deal with the Storms, Shipwrecks, and Snakes in Your Life

Rate this book
Based on the story of the apostle Paul's near catastrophic shipwreck (see Acts 27-28) , this is a call to individuals to "shake off" problems and disasters in life and move forward to new health and wholeness. Some days you feel as if you take one step forward only to fall back two—or ten— steps. You struggle and push through one obstacle after another. You know God is present, but when is he going to rescue you from all the storms, shipwrecks, and snakes surrounding you? The apostle Paul faced a great crisis such as this on his epic voyage to Rome, which ended with a disastrous shipwreck—yet every person aboard was saved by grasping broken pieces of wood. In Shake Free, Samuel Rodriguez issues a powerful call for you to shake off your problems. He writes, “When the storm breaks in your life, you will be driven  • the past or the future • the pathetic or the prophetic • problems or promises • nightmares or dreams • the flesh or the Spirit • Google searches or godly churches • the drama of the storm or God’s destiny for your life.” Rather than merely surviving circumstances, you can discover how to navigate through life’s challenges to truer wholeness and bigger victories from God. “Shake Free…will help you break free of emotional, mental, and spiritual burdens.… This book is necessary for all those who are ready to take back control of their lives!” —DeVon Franklin, producer and New York Times bestselling author “In Shake Free Samuel Rodriguez explains that God’s way is not just the best way; it’s the only way.… This book…will change your life!” —Robert Morris, founding senior pastor of Gateway Church and best-selling author of The Blessed Life and The God I Never Knew

This book was divinely placed in my path when Pastor Samuel Rodriguez visited my church. I was blown away by his annointing and rushed to purchase this book. It took time for me to open up and read, but it was God's perfect timing. As I read through, it provided guidance and strength through the stories told and testimony of both Paul's and Pastor Sam's journey to their Rome. When I reached the end, the word was sent forth through the pages that were exactly what God has been doing in my life and in my own journey. The questions and the prayer at the end of each chapter were so valuable. This is quoted and is what I will hold closely as I reflect on the promises of God.
"As you continue to step out in faith and follow God's path for your life, you, too, have an appointment with destiny.
God's favor is upon you, and no storm can wash it away.
God's favor is upon you, and no shipwreck can sink you.
God's favor is upon you, and no viper can poison the source of your power.
Shake free, my friend, from all that holds you back. You made it to Rome! Your time is now!

This book is sort of a series of small sermons or devotions that you just have to interpret independently before you do it all in one. It all come together into a single message but I feel as if reading this once was not enough as I kept going back to it and reading it again to get a better understanding of what it was trying to say because the sections are sometimes so short, sometimes even half a page that you don't understand it until you really analyze every bit and then you see how sometimes it could be the interlocking piece of two topics. Yes this book is considered a christian book as it’s written by one of the most impactful christian figures in the country (USA); but I feel that any person can read this book and take something away from it as it tries to bring you up from those bad moments in life where you don’t feel hope, and give it to you.

Shake Free Is all about this study of Paul. It talks about how perceptions is not reality, storm driven or destiny driven? How to be no longer anchored by fear. And also talks about how you will make it even without your ship. All these above are like Paul and are just a few chapters in the book. There are many more and it helps you make it through life like Paul did. I received a copy of this book from the Publisher and Netgalley; all of the opinions expressed in this review are all my own.

Read and consumed it

The challenges he had undergone as well as the successes he had attained are so inspiring that will help believers to solidify their faith in God. Brilliantly written, well presented and awesome faith he has in God are the finest things you will see and indeed inspire anyone to face any obstacles in life and come out victorious thru the help of the Holy Spirit as very well portrayed in this book. Thank you Rev Rodriquez for writing your experiences in this book.

I read this book with a women's bible study and covered one chapter a week for the duration. The book spawned some interesting discussions with the group, but the right women's group can achieve the same result with any trite maxim they've found written on the back of any extraneous paper napkin. I recommend looking at the cover, which is blue, and reading the title, which is to shake free of life's storms.

Highly recommended, if you are going thru some times in your life that are stumbling blocks in your walk with Christ this is the book for you. Pastor Rodriguez really makes it easy to understand the reading, this makes for a great devotional reading. I started reading it and didn't want to put it down chapter after chapter.

There were some great, quotable profundities in the first couple of chapters but I didn’t find a lot of new information after that.
