Tinha um velho gigante que engoliu um relógio. Foi um tremendo choque, quando ele engoliu o relógio! Tic-tac, tic-tac. Uma nova versão hilária de Tinha uma velhinha que engoliu uma mosca.

There was an old giant who swallowed a clock. Then he swallows knitting to muffle the clock and the list goes on. It is a fun spin off of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly.
I thought this was a creative rendition of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly. I also loved that there is a cut out of the giants stomach so when you flip the pages more of his stomach is revealed as you see what he swallows next. The ending was unexpected but fits with the silliness of the story.
The format of this book is just darling and clever! There is so much detail on each page and the cut out concept really special. Concerning the text, I wonder if kiddos will find the idea of a bear being eaten upsetting? And the last page ending fell flat for me - I don't understand it and have to Google moon rocks. I do appreciate that knitting was a part of the story.

An old giant swallows a sucession of items in order to deal with the clock he swallowed. Cute concept in that each page has a cut out with the words of the item swallowed and layer upon layer it builds to the current item. Preschool and up
A super silly story the follows the old lady swallowing a fly format. Some of the items are a little silly but that is the point of the book. The cutouts were really cool and slowly revealed what was in his stomach along with repeated verses on the opposite page.
A play off of 'There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly'. It somehow managed to be even more nonsensical than that. And, because I didn't grow up with it, it doesn't have nostalgia helping it either. The rhymes were rather clever, though!
I love the concept and the illustrations (kids will particularly love following the critters along on each page), but the ending just left me a bit perplexed...
This is a cleverly written take on the classic Swallowed tale. I like how each item the giant swallowed connected with the previous item. I found the moth who gobbled up cloth, rather excellent. The story has a bizzare final page, that is a bit tough to read and why I went 4 and not 5. Still a very good book with neat animation.
Like many youngsters, I adore cumulative tales and can never get enough of them. This funny retelling of the classic There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Fly gives a fresh spin to the original because of all the stuff being consumed but mostly because of the well-positioned die-cuts on almost every page. A giant swallows a clock, and then to deal with the clock, he swallows increasingly absurd things, including a bear, a net, and even the sea, if you can believe that. Of course, the use of repetitive lines adds to the book's pleasures, but seeing the inside of his bottom portion get increasingly crowded as it fills with his dining choices will make young readers smile in glee. It's terribly fun even while being impossible. On the left-hand side of the pages, readers will find the sound of the clock and the lines indicating all the things he has managed to swallow. The ending has a surprise twist at the end that most readers won't see coming. With its bright images and absurdity, this one caught my fancy, and it's likely to charm just about anyone who opens its pages.
