Asparagus Roots

Rate this book
Asparagus Roots, a compilation of ultra-short fiction, poetry and short stories "...sizzles with originality" according to Dr. Laurel Yourke, author of "Beyond the First Draft: Deep Novel Revision." Some of the selections beckon the reader into a tangled, shadowed place; others beam with love and light. Find "the chemical sting of tears, the velvet of a mourning dove, the shadow of a hemlock or the song of a fractured hip." Not a word is wasted. Let yourself submerge into these snippets of life.

The pages of ASPARAGUS ROOTS aren't lined with words. Rather, they're painted with vivid word pictures that I couldn't help but pause to admire, linger over, and then let go to fully submerge myself in.

I learned on social media that a friend from my childhood had written a book. So why not read it?

I was drawn into each poem or story as though I having it myself. I could visualize my old friend experiencing these stories.

I found myself anxious to move on to the next, but wanting to linger in the visual and emotional picture I had just read.

I enjoyed the mixture of short poems and longer stories, all written with a quiet sense of humor and wonder.

It was hard to pick a favorite,, I will just have to read them again to decide. Well done, Jane!

I enjoyed the book immensely. The short stories are well crafted and provide opportunities to reflect on human behavior and the human condition. I usually read just one or two stories at a time, savoring the words and images, like a morsel of fine chocolate. I look forward to the next time I'll sit with the book. I'll definitely go back and read this again and again.
