Faced with writing college papers, prepping for tests, and teaching testy witches, Declan O'Carroll has enough on his plate. Not to mention the magical withdrawal of leaving his very own magical kingdom behind on Fairie. But when he and his friends are attacked from creatures out of folklore and fable it seems the Queens of Summer and Winter aren't done with him yet. But if they're so eager to mess with Earth, maybe it's time to Earth came to them. After all, he's got some lessons to teach.

Re-listened for the third time this year October 2019. I liked Tanya and Chris better in the early books. They are both pretty judgmental in this book. Chris has that issue with Declan in the spoilers below which I am still annoyed about. Then Tanya freaks out about Omega because he has too much power and influence. Once she finds out that he can predict human behavior up to 91% she gets on her soap box about free will and unfair advantage. Kind of hypocritical coming from her. Sanka has been a master manipulator for over 1300 years. No human can match that power, and Tanya has Nica who can read minds, which almost no one else can do. I didn't hear her complain about how unfair an advantage SHE has over everyone else.
Re-listened May 2019. Original review below:
I think I like the stories about Declan a little more than I like the stories of Chris at this point. Declan always comes up with something new and his powers are more versatile. I think Chris peaked a little too early. The dynamic has shifted as well. It used to be that everyone would walk on eggshells around Chris because Grimm could break out and cause some serious damage. Everyone is treating Declan the same way, including Chris. Yes, Declan has a ton of power and if he ever lost his control he could be a danger to other people, but I can't remember a single time he lost control and other people got hurt - except for the bad guys. Has Declan actually ever killed anyone besides monsters? Chris on the other hand has murdered an insane number of people. Most are monsters, but there were a lot of people in that government facility that he destroyed. Then he dropped an asteroid on the the place. He also detonated every firearm in Washington when they saved the President and a lot of police got hurt. I didn't really mind that stuff at the time, but now that Chris is getting in Declans face about keeping his cool and not overreacting I have to call bullshit.
Off the bat I'd like to say I'm a huge fan of these series. When I first discovered the series the first 4 books were already out. I devoured them all over a long weekend. I have awaited each new installment with great anticipation. I have rated them all 5 stars until now. I am very conflicted about the Declan character, and what seemed just sloppy story telling in this book.
I am conflicted by Declan as I want to like the character, but often find myself saying, "Jesus what a douche." He often reacts to every day people who are just trying to do their job with condescension and snobbery. I point to his reactions to cops who encounter him late a night in a park, and a waitress and manager of a restaurant in this books. Complete sarcasm and better than you attitude. It's how I imagine most executives at Goldman Sachs react to the janitor or cleaning lady. That is not a compliment. More and more instead of coming across as a conscientious and hard working youth, he comes across as a prick. It's very off putting.
Also, the author makes some choices in this book that simply seem out of character or bare no rational relationship to the characters as developed. The biggest is a confrontation that escalates and results in hard feelings between Chris and Declan. However, Declan's reading of the situation seem completely unwarranted and Chris' reaction to Declan completely out of character. Honestly I could deal with the next installment taking a break from Declan, centering again on Chris and Tanya, and the author taking a deeper look at how Declan comes across.
This series is fast paced pulp UF. The world-building is a bit simplistic and the plot and story are full of tropes and flaws but none of them really hurt the series all that much as the characters are a likeable bunch who are easy enough to root for and the story itself is engaging and fun. It all has the feel of a fun action B-movie and tends to hold my attention from start to finish.
This 13th instalment of the Demon Accords series was another good one. Declan was dealing with the reality of his new position on Faire and with the scheming Fey Queens while also struggling with his own growing powers and his increasing fame back on Earth!
The story made for fun reading. We got a bit from Chris and his team but the best stuff in this series seems to be Declan related nowadays and that was true of this story.
There was a time 4-5 books back when I felt like Conroe was making a mistake with the relationship elements of the story but he has long righted the ship in that regard. I actively like Declan and Stacia as a couple!
All in all a really fun instalment of the series!
Rating: 4 stars. I feel like at least one of these books deserves the full 4 star rating. The series has a ton of flaws but despite them it is always engaging and readable!
James Patrick Cronin did OK with the audio. His general accents and narration are decent but his foreign accents are the absolute worst. I managed OK with his accents for the Fey. I’m just happy the absolutely awful Irish accents were at a minimum in this instalment!
Summer Reign By: John Conroe Narrated by: James Patrick Cronin Series: The Demon Accords, Book 13 This book tells is Declan teaching, going back to Fae, finding out more about how his mother died, and more. Lots of action, battles, a ghost, a spy at school, more power growing in him, and him and his werewolf girlfriend's bond groves too. The narrator is awesome as usual! Always a joy to listen to this narrator...perfect for this series.
Could not re-read/ DNF 2nd time through Once again a totally engrossing story. The start of this story has several characters acting abnormally in just the right way to drive the plot forward. That kind of sloppy ass writing is thankfully very rare in this series. --UPDATE 4 years later: ...So I hit that spot I'd mentioned with the "Sloppy Writing". what a generous euphemism, I'd call it total bullshit now. It completely derailed my rereading of the series and I won't be going on to book #14. I get that it was a trick to artificially inject some action and tension into the book but no, it's totally bullshit. Most importantly how am I supposed to care about this series if this is how the author himself treats the characters and his readers. you know, fool me once shame on you -when Chris Gordon got banished for killing that elder Vampire, but fool me twice shame on me if I keep taking it. My pile of To Be Read is way to big to put up with this disrespect and abuse.
Since I discovered this series just under three years ago, the latest Demon Accords novel is always on my must-read on the day of release list. Summer Reign was no different.
As always it is really good to jump back into this world, and I was really pleased that Declan was taking the lead on this one again. Don't get me wrong, I love stories from Chris' perspective just as much, but I have really been enjoying Declan's story of late.
Unlike is normally the case with these books, I found that this one took a little while to find its feet. The opening 35-40% was enjoyable to be sure, but it lacked the usual pace and urgency that hooks you and gets you invested. I found myself enjoying being back in the world, but wasn't really drawn into the story quite yet.
That all changes at about the 40% mark, and suddenly I couldn't put the book down.
Without going into too much detail here, the real strength of this book is Declan as a character. His time in the spotlight has very much been a coming of age story where Declan is coming into his power as the junior member of the team. After the events of Winterfall, the time for growing up has long since passed and he is now well and truly a major player. That's not to say he's not having fun at college and all that, but he is firmly in the big league alongside Chris and Tanya now, and he is starting to see the fallout from playing at such a high level.
As with the infamous Spider-man line, this is the book that really shows Declan that with great power comes great responsibility. He must learn that not only do actions have consequences, but when Declan acts, his actions have bigger consequences than most. The conflict that comes from this created real stakes for Declan where they might have been missing before.
A lot of criticism for overpowered characters, like Superman, is that because they are so overpowered, there are no stakes and they're therefore impossible to write. I have always disagreed with this statement because I feel such criticism lacks imagination and thinks only in terms of physical stakes, and this book proves it. Yes, Declan and Chris have impossible powers and it's hard to believe they could ever lose a fight. But by focusing on the character themselves, making their own internal struggles deeper and creating vulnerability that way, you can come up with some seriously good storytelling as was done here.
So in spite of that slightly slow start for the first third of the book, the rest of the novel just kept getting stronger with every chapter. The last third of the book especially was more than good enough for me to yet again comfortably give another Demon Accord books a full five stars.
Once again I burned through a Demon Accords novel in a single sitting, and already I can't wait to see what's coming next.
All I can say is that this book was...weird? This book has one of the worst chapters in the entire series and honestly it didn't really feel like John Conroe wrote said chapter (which I will get to); it felt like Conroe was really trying to force too much drama between Declan and the Demidova group, but even with the shittiest chapter in the series and Conroe making his original MC Chris and his crew so unlikeable, I still enjoyed the book.
It starts out on the slower side, which I didn't mind at all, I love seeing what goes on at college Arcane and other than Chris feeling less like his original good guy self and more snippy nothing felt too off. The whole conversation with Darcie asking why Stacia is with Declan felt a bit out of left field, but I'm glad aunt Ashe had Declans back, sure Stacia is supposed to be super beautiful and intelligent, but I'm down to debate anytime why Declan more than stacks up to Stacia even though he's described as just "handsome" and not otherworldly beautiful like Chris/Tanya and Stacia. Once they travel to faerie, things go a bit weird in my opinion; First the author makes Declan seem like a total noob and doesn't have his shields up when he's in the middle of a battle, this doesn't happen, or at least shouldn't happen if Conroe wasn't forcing things so much in this book. After that is the chapter of doom, spoiler incoming, I'll describe it below.
I'm talking about the chapter where Jetta is taken hostage by a black dog and the FBI waltzed on the scene guns blazing with new spelled bullets. The FBI end up shooting Awasos which makes Chris hulk out; a few minutes later after Krupp makes the mistake of forcing Declan into letting the black dog hostage out of the ground where he had him immobilized, after which it leads to her agent getting mauled. Stacia ends up subduing the Black Dog by holding his neck between her teeth, then Krupp proceeds to tell her agents to get ready to shoot if Stacia hurts the suspect, which escalates the situation and makes Declan throw up shields and hold lightning in one hand. Grim then tells the agents to stand down and takes away their weapons, but somehow doesn't see Krupp pulling another sidearm, instead grim gets into Declans face in a rage then proceeds to try and maul him; it all ends when Stacia takes advantage of Declans trust in her to choke him out. The whole sequence was really weird and It's a bit insane that her first idea was to choke out her "mate" and put all her trust in grim to not kill or maim said "mate", because at this point grim is acting seriously psychotic and is for the most part an ice cold killer. This all happened when grim was just about on top of him, and the choke out was supposed to be"logical", but that was just a load of "blarney" Conroe cooked up so fans don't hate her and there was an easy way to stop the fight. The next chapter is a little weird as well, it starts after Declan wakes up and Omega basically gaslit him by saying he lacked logic and that there was no threat and that Chris didn't attack him, but was just trying to stop him from frying all the FBI agents which made me facepalm, Declan has never hurt an innocent and this narrative that he's one step from going bad has always been nonsense; then Declan proceeds to apologize to everyone even though he never actually used lethal force and never has with anyone who isn't literally trying to murder him, while the "good guy" Chris or his grim persona is a true cold blooded killer, so the hypocrisy is real. Chris at least apologized, but it was sooooo insincere it made me laugh, it once again showed that Conroe has decided to write Chris a bit more bitter and unlikeable for some weird reason.
This chapter really threw me for a loop the first time I read it, and it's when I really felt Declan needed to part ways with the Demidova team that has never really trusted him, and possibly get some space from Stacia to let her think about her betrayal of trust and if she really feels that Declan is her person or if it's just a forced proximity thing. Declan as usual just lets himself be the scapegoat of this situation and forgave Stacia immediately. I'm guessing as someone who's read the rest of the series, that this was Conroes way of giving their relationship a test and from here on you can see that Stacia has truly given up on any lingering feelings for Chris and that she's all in with her "witch" but it felt a little too easy for Stacia, she's never had to try to get Declans affection it's just always there and is assumed will always be there due to her otherworldly beauty; I have never really liked that she's never had to fight for Declan, and in opinion this is a problem because you can see that Declan always second guesses himself and their relationship, always asking "why" far too often, and while this is obviously due to self esteem issues on his part, but it's also because he's been the main pursuer since day 1 and she kinda just "gave in" finally after fighting her attraction towards him.
After these two chapters, I actually started to really enjoy the rest of the book; Though I was still a bit butt hurt over what Stacia pulled that chapter, it was fun seeing Declan and her on their own like in book 10, and in faerie. We end up seeing them team up and thwart some of the schemes and attacks from the summer and winter realm. All in all it was really enjoyable to read and I wish that Conroe had written more scenes where Declan isn't with the Demidova crew. Near the last part of the book Chris and friends come to help save the day and team up with Declan and Stacia to whip the Summer queens ass, perfect time to you know, let bygones be bygones I guess, except Tanya acts like the cunt she usually is and blames Declan once again for something Omega says/does that she doesn't like and things go back to Declan being the scapegoat, making him feel like shit for no reason. So while this book had a few chapters that make me really wonder what pills Conroe was popping while writing this book, the portion with Declan on his own really brought this book from total trash to "well shit, I guess I still liked it even with the botched chapter". Not my favorite of the series, but I'll give it a 3.75/5 if Conroe didn't add such a stupid chapter, and spoil his original main cast by making them super weird (minus Lydia she's always been trash) I'd have probably given this top 3 in my favorites, but we can't have it all I guess.
The book has all the things I have come to expect and love from the demon accords however it feels like this one needed another solid go through with an editor. Some things that felt off to me: -The fight between Chris and Declan seemed very forced especially given that it was dealt with in a few pages and then only really used as a way to get one over on Summer during the final fight. -The other big thing to me was Declan's behavior towards regular people. He repeatedly acted like a huge douche with an attitude that seemed to indicate they did not matter. This is something I would attribute to some entitled pampered rich kid who was not taught any better. Given how it appears his aunts have raised him this seems a bit odd. Maybe this was meant to convey how stressed out he is with everything that's been happening non stop to him. This just seems like something that needed more polish. -The interaction with the spy felt rushed and really was not much more than an add on to the book it felt like. I'm guessing he's likely to come up in future books due to his special ability and the author wanted to introduce him but just wish he was woven in more smoothly.

Wow, what can I say but this one was AWESOME!!!! It was really great to see Declan and Stacia take the lead and see their relationship grow. There were some parts that had me concerned but I like how some of the older plotlines were brought up to date. Can't wait for where John takes us next.
Wow...really? And I mean that in the bad Wow, really sort of way, not the good. While this book is good overall, it earns the coveted Wow...really? because of several weird moments. First and foremost,
The next faux pas is the ending...which came outta nowhere for me. I was happily going on and thinking, cool, what's next. Then BAM!!! Books over baby. Huh? And double huh?!? This felt way too abrupt and early. It was almost as if Conroe said, 'well, I made my page quota for this one, might as well wrap it up and put everything else into the next book.' Also, not cool Conroe.
This brings me to the final problem, which is are we going to change the focus of this series officially now? The last 4 books have become more and more Declan central. Weren't we supposed to be following the main character Chris in this series? While I love Declan, despite his being a bit cheeky with civilians in this book, it feels odd to have the series suddenly following him as the primary all the time. I trust Chris and friends aren't just sitting back at home during Declan's time in fairy drinking Diet Colas and binge watching The Defenders. It just seems a bit odd and makes me feel like they should call this a side novel in a way.
I like this series a lot even though I've had some issues with the last few books. This one started rocky with several discrepancies, like for instance Czech Republic being mentioned as having something to do with Declan's father when in previous books it was established he was Croatian. Things with Caeco ended on rather rocky and antagonistic terms last book and yet they're all friendly at the start of this novel. The fracture in friendship between Declan and Chris and Tanya seems forced, too much so. Also Declan's adviser has no idea about witches, werewolves, acts like it's all new information when Declan and Stacia literally gave an interview about both witches and werewolves and that information was treated as public knowledge in previous novels. There were other things that in my opinion detracted from the overall story.
Just a little update to the review - I've remembered one more thing that bothered me. Mason's description of how he got on Oracles radar - that he's from Croatia and that he and his family capsized while going with boat to Italy. I'm from Croatia and stuff like that doesn't just happen rarely it NEVER happens. First of all there are a lot easier ways to get to Italy from Croatia and going by boat is silly and secondly very few people would emigrate from Croatia to Italy and since both countries are in the EU there's no reason for people to either sneak away from Croatia or sneak into Italy. Also no one in Croatia is named Mason there isn't even an equivalent name. Anyway...
Still it was a fun read and I'll keep following the series for now.

Oh boy! Just when it looks like Declan and friends have things moving in the right direction, Faerie kicks them in the groin. Declan has really gotten a boost in his abilities and learned more about his mothers murder, and Machas' hand in it. And he gave a swift boot to the head to the Faerie Queens. Tanya and Chris are concerned that Omega may be more than they thought. Ahh well! Getting Hell involved and just watch what happens next!!
Others in the urban fantasy realm need to step it up.
Another great tale in the demon accords universe. Mr. Conroe overshadowed all other books in the urban fantasy realm. I have never read a book series more times than his. Jim Butcher, Kim Harrison, and Charlie Harris need to step up their game.
Solid 3 stars - thank god no Sutton kids as narrators this time.
John is still desperately trying to mold the two stories (Demon Accords and Black Ice) that in all honesty could have been their own adventures instead). In the previous book he tried to spice things up by basically splitting the setting into two: One about Superman Chris and Wonder Woman Tanya and the other about the infinitely more interesting character - who faces his own inner struggles and temptations of power, Decla.......oh right, for some reason it was the not so interesting Sutton Kid instead. Thank god we are done with that. Hell, Awasos could have been better.....(more unique?)
This time it's 100% Declan.
The golden boy is once again thrown into the fray of fighting the forces of evil - whatever they may be, teaching witches - whom rather get into his pants, dealing with annoying magical rogues, managing a war thorn world, dodging assassinations and being a good all-around boy rising up to the impossible expectations placed on him by absolutely everyone. Whew. Poor guy. That is one heck of a situation for a 20 year old full of hormones. At least he has his super-hot-supermodel of a werewolf girlfriend to keep all that pent up stress in check right?
This time Declan is facing a different kind of enemy - distrust. Nobody is trusting him due to his nature to sometimes explode and cause calamities that make the rampages of the hulk seem like a walk in the park. Nothing new at this point right? Well this time, Tanya is going all in on this trust issue - and where Tanya is, Chris follows like a good puppy on a leash of course. Our boy Declan comes close to butting heads with not only Chris - physically, but also Tanya - more verbally. The only thing keeping all hell from breaking loose is a good old chocking from a girlfriend (don't be into that stuff you perv).
All in all the story was solid; nothing grand, but not bad either. Obviously John wants to stretch this story for as long as possible, and good for him I say - gotta pay the bills these days. What is slowly starting to turn me off is a lack of a good villain that gives our protagonists a run for their money. A real run. Make them experience real setbacks, real pain and real helplessness, delivered by a well crafted (interesting, impactful and persevering) villain, not like those we've seen before.
I also don't like how Tanya is turning into this massive bitch with trust issues and Chris into a giant super doormat man. Chris has always seen the good in people. He was after all the one who believed in Declan from day one. Now all of a sudden he's ready to go at it? Either the author has forgotten what he was doing (like with that Caeco kiss drama crap), or he's subtly trying set up a rift between the protagonists. At least Declan did a really good job calling her out on her bullshit.
I enjoyed this book for the most part, even though this series seems to be constantly about Declan now instead of Chris (I really preferred it when it was from Chris' point of view).
Only thing I really wanted to comment about was the small "fight" scene between Chris and Declan (and the others). It just seemed poorly written and forced.
I honestly thought while reading it that it made no sense. Then my mind jumped to the conclusion that "oh the bad guy must have influenced the cops minds some how, that's why Agent Krupp and the others are so being so hostile to Declan and the others".
But that quickly didn't make sense either and I thought "ohhh, maybe some how Declan's mind is the one who has been influenced and what we're reading is not actually happening, that would make sense! That's why his friends are trying to calm him down and acting like he's the one acting irrational.
I thought for sure in the next scene when Declan came too after being choked out that we would learn what really happened.
Turns out I was wrong. No it was just written as it was. Agent Krupp and the rest being weirdly hostile and irrational and then Declan's friends acting irrational towards Declan, like he was going off the deep end for wanting to protect his friends.
I don't know, I enjoyed the book overall, but this one scene stuck with me weirdly written.
More adventures for Declan as he juggles all his roles
It is always fun and exciting to visit the world where Declan O’Carroll and Stacia Reynolds live. The series continues to be engaging and the storylines fresh. This book focuses on Declan O’Carroll as he continues to try to balance running a kingdom in Faerie, keep the Faerie queens from destroying his kingdom or earth, trying to teach witches at the College of Arcane, and trying to audit his own college courses. This is the 13th book in the urban fantasy Demon Accord series. I love that Declan, despite having overwhelming magical powers, still struggles with life and emotions which makes him a relatable and likeable hero. There is some tension between our heroes but it is discussed and resolved keeping the angst level low. Many of the characters from the other books are in this book as well. There are also a few new characters who are introduced. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, end of the world scenarios, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. I will definitely keep reading the series to see what evil beings and plans are thwarted by Chris, Tanya, Declan, Stacia and the rest of the crew.
Yay for another Declan book. This one just continues the awesomeness that is the Demon Accords. However please please please please don't let the ending be a foreshadowing of something horrible. Please! Declan can't go evil he just can't. Had to love this book though since the major fight scene was essentially a large game of Wytch War. Which Declan is a master of.
Now to wait for the next book. I just hope that nothing happens to Declan in the next one. Also kind of curious to find out from whose point of view the book will be told from. We need a Tanya book...
A bit conflicted about the characters and the ending, but I can’t go for the threes stars. After all, it is entertaining, fun and well written. Four stars as follows... Three stars for the story.. .. ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Five stars for the narration ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Four stars overall........... ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ Did I m mentioned that this was an audiobook? Oops..
One more re-read , now before reading Demon Divine.
I Love this series, not too dark, just light enough to get and keep you in a good mood.
Audiobook. Story - ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Narration - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Overall. -⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I wish Conroe knew how to write women that were not bossy, bitchy, or snarky. Every single female character either has huge amounts of sarcasm, tell one of the two main characters what to do because obviously chris and Declan cannot make their own decisions, or are constantly making fun of one of the guys. Jetta, lydia, all of the witches, tanya's, and even stacia are guilty of all of these things. It gets annoying when every female character is like this. Dont get me started on Caeco. Great series but I wish John Conroe would work on the female characters a bit more.
So Chris can go full psycho whenever someone or -thing threatens anyone he doesn’t want threatened, but when Declan protects his girl from being shot he gets attacked, choked out and drugged? Then he has to apologize? Yeah sounds alright. And Stacia siding against him is absolutely disturbing, no matter her excuses. I’ve had enough of the hypocrisy. Stacia is also a choice I‘m getting less and less certain about. We barely get any moments between D and S. That is not to mention that her relationship with Chris is giving everything a weird taste. She was Chris fangirl and rejected Declan for quite a while because he wasn’t the partner she envisioned. Now she and D work for Chris, she keeps calling Declan a kid and sides with Chris in conflicts. There should have been a clear cut or better, Declan should’ve gotten together with someone unrelated to the original team. Maybe Conroe should have never introduced a second main character. Declan never got a chance to fully grow into his role as protagonist, as from the very beginning there was Chris. On the other hand Chris and Tanya both got extremely unlikable - nothing compared to what they were in the beginning - especially Tanya has turned into the same kind of controlling and mistrusting vampire that she fought against in the beginning. This is reflected in the reader reactions, which are obviously not very pleased about the whole Declan - Chris thing. I don’t specifically mean the conflict in this book, but reactions in general. A majority still doesn’t see Declan as a legitimate protagonist and complain about books not focusing on Chris. Others see Declan as protagonist, but are in turn annoyed about Chris‘ superior role and conflicting behavior towards a younger man so similar to himself.
Not as good as God Hammer but it was better than the first book. We get to see more of Caeco, not gonna lie, but it looks like that bridge has been slowly burned. Her and Declan are just drifting apart and their failed attempts at conversation are just making things worse. The fact that their jobs are starting to conflict and overlap for all the wrong reasons just doesn’t help. The Queens really don’t like Omega. Or the fact that both of them are 5%. 😉 Black Dog, this book deffinetly put a new spin on an old legend. All the Nations want a piece of Declan. Not a surprise. Lucky for him that Gina’s good at her job, past and present. We found a witness to Maeve Irwin’s death as well as the nature of it and who was there. Some of it was obvious, otherwise there were a few “didnt see that coming” moments. Stacia is just as hot and commanding as usual. The Witch Bitches REALLY DONT like her. In fact the overly ambitious mothers are getting involved.
Remember that traitorous bitch that locked Declan in the missile silo? Well she’s still doing stupid shit and now Declan decided he needed to pay her a personal visit.
What else does this book entail? Well I guess you’ll have to read and find out cause these little morsels are all your gonna get. Too bad you didn’t get any answers out of it, huh? 😏
Our focus is also n Declan this time and get to see where he stands in growth, power, and relationships. As usual it makes for some outstanding reading: action, drama, and a dash of romance. Declan is so far beyond the HS student we originally met that it’s scary. (No, really.) He represents Team Gordon well, especially when a creative solution is needed. Thanks mainly to all the women in his life he remains stable and even sometimes humble, but never mess with any of those ladies or his friends, because then all bets are off. We also get to see more of Omega, which is fun, and also some really interesting interactions between all the major players. We also get to see the answer (for now) to the question “Chris v. Declan: who would win?”
Once again Conroe gives us a winning story, edited beautifully, and chock full o’ plot. There’s a few scenes that I wish had been paced a bit slower and had more detail (Declan’s two main “losing it” scenes), similar to the detail seen with Chris in earlier books, but that’s just a minor wish.
This is great stuff. Very Highly Recommended. (But then, if you’ve been following the series you already know that.)
The author of this beloved series hits another out of the park!
I can't wait to listen to this book again when the audible version is released! The author seems to effortlessly churn out one story after another in this compelling and ongoing battle between good and evil. The story flirts with the inherent risks anyone of the characters battling against evil face as they make their choices in this never ending battle between Heaven and Hell but mostly Job Conroe illustrates how each of his amazing characters feel they have to walk the same line we all do. It is so difficult to feel the painful human experiences such as losing someone we love, like a parent.
I can't offer any higher recommendations than what I am sharing with you in this review. I loved the series at age 54, my daughter, in her 30's loved it and I wasn't surprised when my grandchildren she's 14, 12 and 6 all fell in love with the stories too. The Demon accords really should be call what Jon titled his first book, God touched which fits with how I feel about the story and every one of Jon's beloved characters. Try reading along with the audible version of each story. I know you will enjoy every minute of the stories as much as my family has.
Absolutely love this series!!! My only issues is that the author has made the secondary main character (Declan) seem more powerful than the First Main character (Chris) of these story.
Now, don't get me wrong I love Declan and he seem like a mini Chris but we can't have him getting more powerful than the "God Hammer" That's just my opinion. Granted it did have a moment in this book where Chis showed a sliver of extra technique when dealing with Declan ,however, other books have showed how Declan can and will handle such issues in the future. So I'm interested to see how the author will deal with my issues because if it came down to Chris or Declan I'am on Chris Gordon AKA "The God Hammer" team all the way sorry Declan lol ....
In the first couple of books the author focus on Chris Gordon and he seem to jump in power quickly especially after ever scrape with the bad guys ,however, since Declan introduction I have not seen any power jumping for Chris. Although, it seems he dose have some skills he still can't use well or at will. With the conclusion of this book it seems like the next book will need The God Hammer" cause the BIG one is coming! Can't wait to see what the next book will reveal.
I have been reading this series since the beginning and to say I have been totally charmed with the characters is an i understatement. I love them all. However, Declan, his girlfriend Stacia and his own adventures have risen above the rest. My major critism with this series has been the near godlike powers of Chris and Tanya. Well Chris really. As it seems that no matter what he faces he is more powerful than anyone and everything. Declan represents a more grounded character. Extremely powerful but within limits. I truly think he deserves to have his own series. The writing of his character is so well done its hard to imagine a future of creating without him. With that done and said this was one of the best entries in the series. Declan and Stacia make a great couple that I think can be even better if on their own. The adventures within the land of Fairie continue to put you in a world of excitement and I can't wait to see what the queens have in store for him! Carry on!
Declan has his plate full with college, teaching, his girlfriend, saving the world and being the holder of a realm on Fairie. Declan, Chris and Stacia decide to take the fight to Fairie when both the Queens of Summer and Winter decide to attack him on Earth.
Declan is one of kind; he’s a powerful witch, he’s down to earth, he’s loyal and he is super smart. The young man can figure out things in the witch world that the most experienced witch can’t even wrap their mind around. The relationship between Declan and Stacia is a powerful one. Stacia and her inner wolf have claimed Declan as their mate and Declan is head over heels in love with her. Between Stacia and Declan’s AI, Omega the kid is protected from every angle.
The Demon Accords series is one of my favorite series and one worth investing your time and money in reading if you aren’t already a loyal fan. The next book in the series will focus on the untold stories of some of the other characters in the series and then Conroe will be back to the main story.
The main plot here (Summer & Winter vs. Declan) worked fairly well, though I don't think I believe the motivations for the war they have initiated. The action scenes in that war, though, were exciting and tightly written. The ending of the book seemed contrived, given the established overarching plot.
The biggest problems I had with this book were character-level problems. I didn't believe Chris and Tanya's reactions to Declan, which seemed contrary to their established personalities. And I didn't find Declan's whole university student/teacher subplot convincing at all.
Better than the previous couple of entries in the series, but it seems like Conroe might be struggling to write stories that both make sense and provide challenges for his absurdly high-powered protagonists.
I read tons of Urban Fantasy, and one of my favorite elements is how the author decides on the interaction of modern people and technology with the supernatural. This series brings the relationship of supernaturals and modern tech to a whole new level! How deep the story goes with science, government, and real human emotions and interaction with the supernatural world. By far, John Conroe relates the most realistic approach of any author I've read! And, the plot lines are so superb, I can't put this book down! Amazingly real characters, nonstop unpredictable plot twists, emotional growth, superbly written dialogue, and a fallible MC you want to route for! In fact, the only negative of this series is how it has effected my sleep! I;m up all night reading these nonstop pager turners! Thank you John, you master word-smith!
Declan is truly one of a kind, between his sarcasm and sense of humor he keeps us wanting more !!
Declan continues to get stronger, all while continuing to learn a balance between his powers which seems to be expanding, his relationship with Stacia his beautiful werewolf who always has his back, he's learning to teach a class of questionable witches, fighting the Queens of Fairy, losing his temper afraid of disappointing his aunts, learning about his mother's death, worried about his future working relationship with Chris and Tanya, this kid has his plate full but he always handles it with his trade mark fluent sarcasm and usually figures it all out !! I love reading about Chris and Tanya but I am head over heels for Declan
