Twisted Shakespeare #1

Professional Liar

Rate this book
My sister Bianca and I have two rules governing the dispensation of our trust funds.

One. I get married first.
Two. She gets married second.

Neither of us will see a penny until we are both “properly cared for.” My father had a terrible sense of humor.

I turn to the only man who can help me. Even when the last time I saw him he said he hated me. Even when I love him as much as I loathe him. Even when he’s all wrong.

Liar. Thief. Killer.

Those are just a few words whispered about him in back alleys. To me he’s Pierce, to everyone else, he’s Pierson St. James, local mobster and second in charge of the infamous Wild Dogs.

He may be disreputable, but desperation calls for extreme measures. A long time ago, he promised to marry me. Now I’m going to hold him to that promise.

And we are both going to regret it.

This isn’t your high school Shakespeare...and you've never read The Taming of the Shrew like this.

This is a standalone romance with alpha heroes, alpha heroines, and a whole lot of foul language.

My first read by this author and I really enjoyed it!

I have not read The Taming of the Shrew (unfortunately), so I can not compare it to this book. But what I do want to say is, I was intrigued - it kept me turning the pages. I was pulled in from the very first chapter.

The heroine was strong & sassy, the Hero so protective and loving, with some sexy tattoos thrown in. <3

This was a quick read with lots of action, drama, and plenty of steam. I will definitely read more from this author.

So I wanted to read this because I had saw that this was an adaptation of the Taming of the Shrew. The shrew being a mafia princess that will only receive her inheritance if she marries one of the main lines of the mob/mafia. This is a stipulation made by her father who recently passed. So she goes to her old boyfriend who is the current head of the Irish mob (and from one of the main lines as well) to try and get him to marry her so she can receive her inheritance and protect her younger sister (who is not that much younger than she is). I really liked Pierce's character. He could easily have become one of my fav. male leads. So this book was full of action and mafia/mob scenes. But it just kept feeling a little flat to me, I guess. I would have loved to have had more of the back story, like what happened in the past for us to get here, now. Instead it began with her standing on his front door step, going in, asking him to marry her like it was a business arrangement, sleeping with him, and then the book took off. This might be perfect for someone else. But I would have liked more back story and character development.

I purchased this book.

Ok so I was at a book convention when I saw this author’s banner. The covers to all of her books were stunning. I had to take a better look. I opened her Goodreads Page and read all her blurbs. THIS blurb stood out the most, but the others made me go HRMMMMM too. I ran to her table and grabbed Pierce. I happily sat down in the hotel room and devoured this book. Pierce…shut the hell up…sexy as hell and sweet as hell too. If Kat doesn’t realize how lucky she is I’mma have ta smack her upside her dang head!!!

Ok so Kat and Pierce have had a roller coaster of a love life for on and off the past 10 years. They are both in mafia families, however, their families are definitely very different in protecting their own. When Kat finds out she has to get married, she runs to the only man she has ever loved and begs him to go along with it.

Pierce has loved Kat, The Shrew, forever. When he sees her coming to him in desperation he is angry, but once he realizes he can have the woman of his dreams forever….he jumps.

Pierce is the silent hero of this book. He is the quiet calm Kat needs. I was a bit stunned to learn what his family does for a living because he is most definitely an Anit-Hero but I still loved him. Kat is so thrown by the way her family and his family are run. She is a bit outta her comfort zone for sure with how caring they all are and how they back each other 110%.

When Pierce, Kat and her sister become the targets of a Mafia coup, Kat will do anything to keep the ones she loves safe even if it means breaking her heart in the process.

I would love love love to get more from these two even if it is a book about Bianca because she is hilarious!

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I have never read Ms. Corwin before and I was definitely intrigued by the blurb that accompanied the book. Kat and Pierce have a complicated relationship. Kat because she is part of the Mafia underground and has to marry someone in order to get an inheritance from her late father whilst making sure her sister is protected and Pierce who is also part of the shady underground in a different way whose tempestuous relationship with Kat is on/off again, mainly due to Kat's inability to want love and dependence from someone else.
This book starts with a bang and keeps you gripped until the last page. Pierce is an amazing, strong, dominant man and Kat is feisty and a fresh female character. The two of them are well suited even though sometimes you want to give Kat a really good shake. The relationship that Kat has with her sister Bianca is also really amusing and sweet and it will be interesting to see a book on her as I bet she can get up to come trouble. Pierce's gang of brothers are loyal and were great to read about, being both funny, sentimental and fair when it came to the life that was given to them rather than a life they could choose for themselves.
There are some definite hot moments between Pierce and Kat in this scene and I just never wanted the book to end! I can't wait to read more from this author and if you want an exciting read then this one is for you!

This is a quick read that is twisted in all the right places. The first thing that caught my eye with this is the book cover. Immediately I needed to see what this was about. On a whim I picked up Professional Liar. The characters are in the mafia and Kat is known as ‘The Shrew’. Her father was head of the five families and has passed away leaving this title to Kat. Her father has weaved an intricate web for Kat and her sister, Bianca, to receive their inheritance. Kat does what she knows best and goes about trying to manipulate Pierce into marrying her. The only thing is, they have several problems to overcome. Pierce truly loves Kat and doesn’t want his heart broken again. They also have quite the group of haters as Kat is Italian and Pierce is Irish which makes many people kill happy. While there is a web of lies and deceit ,there is also quite a bit of sassy snark with some very hawt scenes. These two truly are meant to be but both have experienced so much craziness and heartbreak because of their families and past that it is very hard to overcome. Watching the craziness unfold and the insanity that ensues made this an absolute page turner. I am looking forward to reading more by this author.

I received an ARC from Ms. Corwin, and I am writing my honest opinion.

This is a modern twist to Taming of the Shrew. Kat is the Mafia Princess, and Pierce is the Irish Mobster. Kat and Pierce have known and played with each other since their teenage years. When Kat's father is murdered, Kat and her sister Bianca must marry within the 5 Mafia families in order to receive their inheritance. One stormy night, Kat goes to Pierce's house to ask him to marry her. Will their lust and love conquer the betrayals or will they tumble head first down the slippery slope?

I enjoyed this book. The characters are well written, and the plot is complete, but it did leave me begging for more. I do hope that Ms. Corwin continues Kat and Pierce's story as well as Bianca and the other characters. It would be a shame to just have it end. Due to some violence and lusty scenes, I recommend that those 18+ years old read this. Thank you Ms. Corwin for allowing me to read Professional Liar. I highly and thoroughly enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more of your work.

**ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.**

I have never read a book by Monica Corwin before so when I got the opportuniy to read one I jumped right into it hoping for the best. Wow, was I impressed. I really enjoyed this book. Although I would've loved to see some of the back story between Kat and Pierce. Maybe a bit in how they met. Other than that it was a quick read that kept me etraced until the end.

Kat a mafia princess whose father was just recentley killed must now marry within the five families of the mafia for her and her sister Bianca to recieve their inheritance and to keep her sister safe.

Pierce an irish mobster and second in charge to the Wild Dogs. He has always been in love with Kat. He isn't afraid to express how he feels.

Kat and Pierce both in mafia families have some past history with each other. Ok more like a lot of past history. They been with one another on and off for the past 10 years. So now that Kat has to marry she goes to the one man she has loved Pierce to beg him to go along with it. Will he agree?

As has been the case with the last three books I read by Monica Corwin, once I started reading, I couldn't put the book down.

I love this second of Corwin's Shakespeare re-tellings. The fierceness that Kat displays when she finally embraces her birthright is scary, but fits with the sexiness that she does nothing to hide throughout the story.

Pierce, wearing his heart on his sleeve (under so much ink), seems faithful to Shakespeare's Petruchio without the gas-lighting and psychological warfare the Bard's lead employs. Although both are quite skilled with their tongues in taming 'the shrew.'

It's not your high school Shakespeare, and it's got enough steam to make an espresso machine jealous.

If you're looking for a quick, fun, and definitely sexy read, you should block off a few hours dive into this delightful tale.

I loved the story and retelling. The writing just flowed and pulled me into this intriguing story from start to finish; wanting to find out what happens next. I enjoyed every minute of it and never wanted it to end. I fell for the characters. The storyline was intriguing and pulled me into the story from the first page. Such an amazing book and mafia romance.

Kat and Pierce are just incredible. Love their love/hate relationship. They are passionate and intense; hot and steamy. Their chemistry is off the charts. They are both flawed and complex. Neither of them can deny the strong connection they feel nor the fiery chemistry. Their journey together isn’t easy it’s filled with so many obstacles. Loved that Kat was the one who can’t express her feelings while Pierce was the one who didn’t hide his emotions.

Take a risk and read this book, you will not regret it or be disappointed.

“Mindless was a middle ground between where you belong and where you should be. I’d found myself there in his arms between his bed and our history. Between our past and pain. Between the present and the future we might build together. Like a thunderclap, I caved to his demands. Not just the ones he made with his body, but the ones he etched into my heart.”

PROFESSIONAL LIAR is the kind of book that grabs at the reader’s heart right out of the gate and doesn’t let go until the final word is read. The book is chock full of beautiful writing, captivating characters, and steamy sex scenes. The novel reads like an inferno of a love story to the Bard. I have no doubt Shakespeare would be honored. I look forward to delving into Ms. Corwin’s body of work.

This is the first book of Monica Corwin I have read from her books. I am not sure how I like this book. This is suppose have some aspects of Shakespeare's "Taming of The Shrew". I wanted to see the back history of Pierce were told briefly how they met and how she told a lie to protect Pierce from her life. That hurt Pierce so much that he grew a love/hate relationship with Kat. She goes to him for help her and her sister Bianca. She is a Mafia Princess and He an Irish Mafia Prince.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. If you like Mafia Romance you will love it. There is action. But, I'm a little iffy on this book. It's alright, but I don't love it.

This is the first book that I have read by Monica and I throughly enjoyed this book. This is also the first time that I have read a Shakespeare retelling.

This book may only be 169 pages but don’t let that discourage you. The romance between Pierce and Kat is definitely undeniable. It’s hot an steamy. Leaving you wanting more.

Kat is a strong an amazing heroine lead. While Pierce is some who has a lot of tattoos and doesn’t hide his emotions. I loved the love/hate relationship that they have.

I received an ARC from the author in exchange for my honest review. I had never read anything by this author, so I was totally unsure what to expect. This was a story about Kat and Pierce, who are connected in the Mob. It was a quick read that kept me interested up until the end. The only problem I had with the story was that I did not feel a strong connection to why the main characters had a long standing relationship and what their back story really was. Ultimately, it was a quick and fun read.

Books dealing with mafia and romance are one of my favorite combinations and this story did not disappoint. You get immediately immersed in this world and it's a fast ride to the end. I do want more of their back stories, so my fingers are crossed that there will be a novella sometime in the near future. And of course I would not mind more of Kat and Pierce's story as well as more from the other characters in the book, especially her sister Bianca. This was my first book by Monica Corwin and I am definitely going to add her to my list of must read authors.

Well now..

I kinda of really enjoyed this story but I do have one complaint, it's entirely too short. The beginning seemed to be passed right but the ending felt rushed. I'm not sure how many pages it is because my Kindle wouldn't tell me but I totally could've read more.

That being said it was really hard to put down. I liked the characters. I love how strong Kat was but it also kinda broker my heart. Pierce was fantastic.

I understand there's another book to this series so I will be reading it.

I really liked the story. I haven't read Shakespear's story yet, but I intend to.
What I liked about the book the most is, that Kat can't express her feelings and Pierce can. So I think that this twist is refreshing since usually it is the other way around.

I love the writing style and I love the characters: the gentleness of Pierce and the fierceness of Kat, but I need more with the story. I feel like something's missing. An epilogue or something. It ended too abruptly. But after this, I'll still read Bianca's book anyway. ❤️

I just didn’t feel it or believe it?
The question the kept going around mind is
“Would she have married him if there wasn’t a will?”
The whole thing was wrong and toxic
I liked Pierce but Kat not so much.

I’m disappointed- this book had so many opportunities to be amazing, but it was just ok. A Taming of the Shrew retelling as a mafia romance is totally up my alley and I loved both main characters. But there were so many chances to build up the suspense and add family moments that are just hinted at. I enjoyed it, but I wanted more.

While I enjoyed the relationship between Pierce and Kat, there needed to be more about the backstory of their relationship. We only got glimpses here and there and I would have enjoyed it more to see more of them when they were younger.

I'm not sure where to start?! I have mixed feelings about this book. I love Pierce but I had my reservations about Kat. It's almost as if I'm missing something but just can't pin point that something.

What I did love is how protective Pierce was and how much love he has to give. Plus, Kat is so fierce and independent. Put those two together and the chemistry is off the charts!

Even though I have mixed feelings I'd still recommend reading this. It was an interesting read for sure. Pierce made this story for me and I love him!

I am in awe of this author.

I swear.

I love her writing style and I love the way she deviate from traditional heroes and heroines.

This isn't your highschool Shakespeare.

Professional Liar evolves around two characters who has a deep and hurtful history with each other. Them having been born to a rival family complicated their love story until one night, when a sudden last will of testament changed their course of life.

Kat, she's not your ordinary heroine. She's been born and raised into a family whose wealth and power rivals God himself. She's also tough because her life requires that from her but she has a soft spot to her younger sister Bianca and very protective of her. It is the reason why she's called "The Shrew" by Pierce's crew. And she gave up everything she loved dearly and that includes the possibility of a future with Pierce.

description

Pierce, a prince to a criminal Irish family fell fast and hard to the younger Kat. That love was thrown in his face and it crashed his heart and swore to himself that that will be the last time. But when it came to Kat, it's hard for him to resist. Over and over, they will come back to each other only to ruin each other again and again.

description

Theirs is a love story that is not unfamiliar to us, but the way this author woven her characters along with the story, the kind of man Monica Corwin made Pierce here and the way she toughen her heroine Kat is amazing.

My goodness, but I am in love with Pierce here! He's been burned repeatedly by Kat but holy moly!, his love for Kat always win. I love seeing/hearing his point of view because he's so damn loving and patient. He may not fully understand Kat here but it did not hinder his love for her.

I have read a lot of alpha characters but I have never encountered a hero who can love this deep and unselfishly.

Now don't get mad with Kat. She has her reasons which will be stated in the book after a while. It's never easy to be in her shoes and despite her failures and hurtful ways, she loves Pierce the way she knew how.

description

I don't wanna spoil anymore than I have to but this book is a must read. If you're into Shakespearean style with an actual HEA then this book is for you. If you're into Alpha males who doesn't mind being on their knees for their heroine then this book is for you.

Don't miss out the chance to know Pierce and Kat and their love story because I guarantee to you that you will not regret it.

This is my best read by this author and it won't be my last. The characters, Kat and Pierce, were easy to love. The back and forth between the characters have playing for years. One night changed everything. Their relationship wasn't the same. Their relationship wasn't kept behind closed doors. Their relationship was out in the open. The games which were played before were done.
