Chase and his friends are still shaken following their crushing defeat against the Spectre, also known as Tanak’Vor. Now, their course is set for Earth to acquire the final piece of the puzzle in the Fury War: the soul ships. The legendary craft could help the Earth Alliance tip the balance and defeat the Furies once and for all.
Aboard the Victory, the crack engineering crew devise a new training method, one that could help Chase and his team of warriors bridge the power gap between them and the enemy. But will it be enough against an enemy as powerful as Tanak’Vor?
As the eleventh hour draws near, will the heroes be ready for the final battle awaiting them? Will the Universe survive? And, as the Earth Alliance prepares for the final assault on Erevos, will Chase be ready to pay the ultimate price for victory?

I guess you know how no feel about this series as I have all 10 books
Wow the fantasy, the legends that were used, but most of all the unbelievable space opera. This was a master's touch to make you want to be there so you could participate along with the characters, the ride was long but so wonderfully satisfying i loved every book. Thank you for some world class entertainment
“As the eleventh hour draws near, will the heroes be ready for the final battle awaiting them? Will the Universe survive? An ... will Chase be ready to pay the ultimate price for victory?”
It’s been said many times that all good things must come to an end, and this series has been a darn wonderfully good thing. Chase & Co. “took a ‘lickin” against the Tanak’Vor (aka, Spectre) but they are by no means giving up, no matter what the ultimate price will be by everyone. The Droxians and Gaia are particularly impressive and the tale is full of action and unexpected twists and turns. Once again a great plot with the fantastic characters and strong that readers of this series have come to expect. If you have been following along then you must get this book as it gives everything needed (while, yes, leaving room for what I I hope will be a follow-on series). If you are a newcomer go back and start at book 1. You won’t regret it.
Having finished the last book in the Universe in Flames series I will now add a review.
Overall I really enjoyed the series and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi, particularly those who enjoy the space warfare genre.
**SPOILERS BELOW**
This series is part of the genre of sci-fi that has earth at our present tech level encountering aliens who become allies and quickly transform the planet in order to bring us up to their level. In this case the aliens are descendants of the ancient Greeks. It turns out the Greek Gods were just advanced beings who interacted with earth for a period of time and took some to the stars. Likewise there are Asgardians such as Thor and Odin who take part in the intergalactic war with a species called Furies. Who are also human in appearance but bent on ridding the universe of all other species once they escape their inter-dimensional prison.
The main character is a half-Fury, half-Olympian character named Chase who has an evil, then good twin brother and the story revolves around his actions and that of his family.
A few things to nit-pick about the series.
1. The "bad" guy or guys is like one of those Russian doll sets. First it is Emperor Altair of the Obsidian Order (who later becomes a good guy). But it turns out his is being controlled by a character in the background named Argos (A Fury, Chase's twin brother who also becomes a good guy). But it turns out Argos is just following the orders of the chief Fury who has sent him to free their race from a prison. But wait! Turns out the leader of the Furies is being influenced and eventually controlled by an other-dimensional being called a Spectre who is the final bad guy. He and his kind are somewhat like the Shadows from Babylon 5. This isn't to say the characters don't work, but it was a little funny that there were so man layers.
2. Chase is a little too pensive and we get too much time about him agonizing over his choices and destiny. I would prefer characters who knew what they were doing and spent less time navel-gazing.
3. Chase's wife Sarah is a human - a Mary Sue. The kick-butt female who is a top fighter pilot and also looks like a runway model. I enjoyed her character the least. She meets alien Chase - sleeps with him on their first date and gets pregnant. Immediately is flying combat missions in space. Gets captured and tortured by Chase's twin brother for a long while before being rescued. Their child is a Fury and can talk to her in the womb. He effectively delivers himself and grows up into an adult in a matter of days so he can help his dad fight. Somehow she is not completely traumatized by all this. Then she gets Fury powers from her baby's DNA. Later she gets pregnant again but is too dumb to realize it. Morning sickness? Must be bad food! She is training with her husband and now adult son - has incredible cramps and intense fear so she leaves the training and then feels an incredible sense of relief and actually hears a female voice telling her "thank you". Her previous pregnancy had her son talking to her in the same way she but still cannot connect the dots and neither can anyone else. Sheesh.
4. Gaia - a computer AI accidentally created while trying to save earth from an attack. AI is evil and wants to kill everyone. But - you guessed it - becomes good. But somehow sort of forgets about the copy she made of herself and sent off into space that remains evil and comes back to earth to conquer it and also sort of wants to kill all humans because they are harming the environment or something. The AI whines about humans killing animals - but somehow the AI doesn't factor in animals killing other animals throughout time.
5. Earth and humanity - both are almost forgotten in the series except as a plot device. There are only a couple of humans we interact with and some characters just drop off completely. We get very little insight as to how people are actually affected by all the change and the damage to earth in the war.
Having said all that I still enjoyed the series and do recommend it. Just some parts you have to roll your eyes at and move on. The series doesn't actually end and there will be a new set of stories that deal with the aftermath of the war.
10 books are a lot of reviews, so I'm only doing one here, but it's for the whole series. These books are superbly written and vastly entertaining. Once I started this series, there was no stopping. The characters are amazing, the world building stunning, and the battles .... WOW! Book five takes place over a single day, and is so well written that you almost don't even notice. I've never had such a great time reading about a single day. Every book in this series flows so well and every day, battle, person, ship, and world is unique and interesting. The twists keep you on your toes and this is a series that will stick with you.
After reading the ten books in this series, I can hardly wait for the next installments of the story. Unlike a lot of books today, there's no gratuitous sex or really vulgar language. There's so much more to capture the imagination in all the battle scenes and the soul searching that the characters do to make themselves better. I would recommend any and all of this series to anyone who likes action, adventure and good storytelling.
A good wrap-up to the Universe in Flames story arc...
Thanks to Christian Kalisz for pulling everything together and getting his readers across the finish line. I have no doubt that I’ll enjoy further books with Chase & the rest of the characters.
It will be interesting to see if and how he has changed due to the prolonged war he just wrapped up. More intriguing will be how Chase handles his future with (or without his wife, Sarah) and how much he has been affected by all that led up to defeating the Furies.
A fantastic series, a roller coaster ride of emotions, Anticipation, excitement, humour, hope, danger, fear, terrible loss, a bitter sweet ending. I will not report exactly what happened in this book, it would be too much of a spoiler. I will miss this series, it had all my favourite genres, Space Opera, fantasy, sci-fi, ancient mythology. All in all, a fabulous series, and one I pray will continue, in one form or another ;)
Very entertaining military space opera involving an alien war that places a 20th century earth in a war of advanced alien civilizations. The war includes mythological beings, Furies, Olympian, Asgardians, Earth and Atlantian AI’s and other human and non-human alien species. There are multiple plots and subplots that are resolved over the 10 book series. The heroes and villains have deep psychological problems that complicates their lives. You won’t put down the book until the series ends.
Never imagined I'd care to read a ten book series, but Kallias hooked me good in book one and after that the characters, situations, action and the constant tension of NEEDING to know how things turned out just carried me effortlessly along, book by book. Take a chance and get book 1. After that, well, enjoy the ride. It's a doozy!
I have just finished number 10, I am glad there is room for more. This collection of books was great to follow with many characters that were well established and each one had their own personal story. Thanks for the 10 books they kept me interested and thinking about what could happen next.
The story line was repeative of one battle after another with each having a character from a myth, with the protagonist with far too much self indulgence and recriminations. Over all not great scifi more a mix of fantasy and morality taking place in space.
This entire series has been so enjoyable to read. I'm at times a go to the end and read (I know, I know) person. I am proud to say not once did I do that in this series. Each book was riveting and I did not say that lightly. Thank you for such a, dare I say, spell binding series.
I love this series because it is a great story with wonderful characters. They are battling for humanity and it has been a long hard struggle. I recommend this series to anyone who enjoys a great space opera.
I had the honour of reading this book as an ARC, and can tell you that there is more twist and shocks in it then you expect. Christian has left it open for further adventures for Chase has he starts a new quest for help for his darling wife Sarah. Recommended read.
I am really enjoying this series. I want more. Awesome combination of tech. Inner strength and the will power to over come insurmountable odds. I can not wait for more in this universe.
I started this book at a bottom edge not expecting very much i quickly change my mind d and enjoyed a story that grew very rapidly into something very special may all of the authors books be as good
I've enjoyed this series very much! I really hate that this is the end of the series. The characters have become like old friends with every book...I will miss them!
This is one of the better SiFi series I have read, each book kept you wanting to get that next book. Even in this final book your hooked into waiting for the next series to finally find what ending is coming. Great series keep them coming
Thoroughly enjoyed all ten books, a must read for all sci-fi fans, action packed with never a dull moment. I feel quite devastated that this series has come to an end and hope we don't have to wait to long for the sequel.
The action is great and the story line is better. I love the ability he has to keep multiple lines going and tied together in a way that keeps you wanting more.
What a great storyline it must have taken a lot of imagination and thought to get it it right. What a great ending didn't expect that but am sure Chase or Chris will find a way
Awesome. If you want to know if the heroes make it, don’t miss out of reading. It’s impossible to stop until you’re finished. An unbelievable scifi series. Received a free copy.
