"Who am I?" asked Spiderman in the hit movie and believe me however old we might be, many of us still struggle with that question. I am, however, very clear about who I am not. I am not a person with a straight line career like a doctor or a chartered accountant. I am a person who has dabbled in many things, whether by accident or design, but surely with some degree of success.
My detractors would say that "he has a rolling stone career" but those who appreciate me would say that he is a 'self actualized person'. After all how many people you know have been a television reporter and anchor, stage actor, marketing services entrepreneur and event manager and not to forget a mental health counselor, good husband, sensible father – all roles carried out with a high degree of success.

But my biggest test is yet to come as I stand at the cusp of fulfilling a lifelong ambition: to become a writer of serious note. And my first work of fiction called 'The Terrorist', a Military Thriller, is published by Penguin Publications. This is the first step towards my journey of fulfilling my ambition.

Career choice number - is it four or five- would probably be the most challenging to date. So folks you can take your pick and decide whether I am indeed a rolling stone or a seriously evolved individual. And hey I forget my current interest in poetry, but relax that is not a career option, well not as yet anyway!

“All I have is me, myself and I and we are all getting really tired of each other.”

----Carl R White

Juggi Bhasin, an Indian writer, has penned a mildly intriguing thriller called, Fear Is the Key that revolves around the disappearance of a start-up company management executive from the company owner's party thrown by the owner himself at his own apartment, who was in a relationship with the girl went missing strangely from his flat at the peak hour of his office party. And when no clues or no amount of investigation by the local police detective could not bring back his girl, he decides to take the matters into his own hands but little did he or anyone knew that truth and reality can be really weirder than anyone can ever imagine.

Synopsis:

'A bitter winter wind blowing outside spoke to me. There was no one else. And then it struck me. She might have truly disappeared! Sometimes, you get a sense of these things . . .'

It's been one hell of a tough week at Yummimages, a digital infotainment site, with controversies seeping into the politicking within the office. To calm things down, Rahul, the founder, plans a party at his home. His goal is to set things right between his fiancée-to-be, Simone, and his business partner and close friend, Suhel. With the party in full swing it's time for Rahul to have 'the talk', but suddenly Simone is nowhere to be found.

As all investigations come to naught, Rahul takes matters into his own hands and soon has a few suspects lined up. It's just a matter of time before he knows the truth. But reality can be so twisted, so bizarre, so utterly unbelievable.

Rahul has started up his company called, Yummimages along with his college friend, Suhel, together who have braced a lot of accidents and mistakes in their lives during their time in IIT. But
now company turfs have become a real hurdle for Rahul, manily because Rahul's girlfriend, Simone, is at war with his best buddy, Suhel during the time when Rahul's company is all set to go public. So to calm things down, Rahul plans a party at his posh Gurugam apartment for all of his colleagues, and within no time, the party turns wild and Simone goes missing, more like vanishes into thin air. Rahul hits rock bottom with Simone's disappearance and decides to tale the matters into his own hands. Soon Rahul starts tracking Simone's phone, which leads him up to the doorstep of three male low-lives who might have exploited her in the past. Strangely for the newly appointed psychiatrist, Tanya, Rahul's suspicion and his story has a darker shade that is highly twisted and can be life threatening for her. But above all, can Rahul find out the truth or will Tanya fall prey to the ugly truth?

Well sometimes you do need to read terrible books because only then you can develop the ability to judge and be impartial while writing reviews. The reviews under this book on Goodreads are all fake, except one unbiased review. I do not understand how come reviewers find it cool to write fake reviews thereby misguiding readers. If you're a reviewer, then it is your responsibility to speak the truth. I can not fathom how can one say that the book is unputdownable. Pretty much after reading three chapters from the book, I felt myself throwing this book against the wall. But since I love reading and respect authors, no matter how terrible their books are, yet I kept on reading to see how far the author is willing to go, in order to join the dots forcibly.

Neither the writing style nor the characters or even the plot has any slight element of thrill or realism that can keep the readers glued to its story line. I really had to struggle with the book a lot, especially, near the end. The book opened really well and strong, I felt hopeful that Rahul's journey is going to give me chills, especially with that prologue, but sadly right after two chapters, the story turned into something really dull and illogical mostly. The dialogues are unnervingly boring to its very core. The plot makes no sense to me. And I would urge readers of this book to not to post a fake review on Goodreads.

The writing style didn't strike me at all, moreover, a common thriller has so many layers and elements in its plot, sadly this one had none. All it had was lot of explanations, which has no relation with the mystery. Also the concoction of the mystery has failed drastically in this book. Sadly, by this point, I'm cursing myself on not being able to pint out one single good thing about the book. Even the book cover doesn't make sense. Even its name failed to send a shivering chill in my body.

The characters lacked growth. It is obvious from the way the author began unfolding his characters, that he wanted them to look twisted and complex in the eyes of the readers, but that too failed somewhere down the line. I do not know what purpose Suhel's own backstory served in this book. Suhel is a background character. Simone too seems to be a background character, since the limelight stayed strictly on Rahul till the very end. And all the female characters are labelled as an object of sex. The book is painted with extreme level of sexist remarks. So its better to avoid it.

God knows, how some female reviewers on Goodreads found it too be so compelling. Do you know even know this Indian author has made a mockery out of the female species and their bodies?

In a nutshell, I won't recommend this book to anyone.

Verdict: There are other great Indian writers and their books to look out for.

Rahul Abhyankar, the founder of ‘Yummimages’, finds himself grieving over his missing girlfriend, Simone. He is drifting towards depression and hallucinations, and the only way he can save himself is by unraveling the mystery behind Simone’s disappearance.

But the path to salvation isn’t as easy as it looks. Over the next few days, and as a part of his master plan, Rahul finds himself meeting with a bunch of people who redefine the word ‘pervert’. Secrets start spilling and we are shown a world full of sex predators and people who would go to an unimaginable extent for money and fame.

But will Rahul be able to bring out the truth without casualties?

The plot has been planned pleasingly, and there a hint of thrill that exists throughout the book. Its faced paced and the characters are complex and unpredictable in both good and bad way. There also a mention of the psychology of different people and how they work, in a particular pattern. It’s all about connecting the dots, but you are bound to go wrong somewhere. The dialogues lack the thrill. So you’ll just have to trust the flow of the plot. There’s no connection that I felt with the plot, mostly because I wasn’t expecting this storyline. I expected the plot to be driven by fear and thrill and give you the chills. Also, I would have loved it if Simone was the main character. ‘Fear is the Key’ is just a name, the plot has nothing to do with it. Especially at the end, there are monologues, and I don’t understand why the author tried to put in this sort of ‘poetic justice’ when the thrill was long gone.

If there’s one thing I have tried to ignore (and failed) is the portrayal of women as sex objects. There are instances where the character demands it but during certain scenes, it could have been avoided. I say this because the book begins with that particular note and it gives a very negative impression. The book is full of surprises and I advise you not to use logic (Elaboration would only mean more spoilers).

I would rate this book 2.75-3 stars (I don’t know how to rate this book) because of the plot. It’s not overwhelming or out of the box but decent enough. Also, I did a slight comparison with a book I had read last year: ‘You Never Know by Akash Verma‘, and this book is so much better.

It’s a story of Rahul, a confident person who is keen on doing wonderful things in life. He decided to create something of his own, so he owns a company name ‘Yummimages’. Both best friends work together but there happens to be a problem between Simone and Suhel, which Rahul decides to solve. what will happen when he won’t find Suhel anywhere?

Well, the start of the story was good but later it was though to continue. The journey of Rahul started in a very good way but later the plot was too complicated to understand. The story was getting more complicated with each chapter and was not able to connect with the story. The pace was good, smooth and easy so was the tempo. The plot was too complicated and failed to impress me. I love reading mystery and thriller, but there was none of it in this book. It was a lil dull read for me. The story was dragged a lot with brief dialogue and explanations. There were some chapters that I felt like Ok, but other were not upto the expectations. It was really tough to finish this book. The cover and the book does not match at all.Though I loved the cover. It was a complicated read. But this story truly shows the power of Social Media from the first three chapters.

I am sorry to say this but the book didn’t live upto the mark.

Fear Is The Key by Juggi Bhasin is an thriller with awesome cover which initially grabs my attention and blurb is also made interestingly to read instantly.

Coming to the story it started slowly where Rahul is the founder of Yummimages and when his junior staff made a mistake whole office collapses by calming it with help of Suhel, his business partner and childhood friend. For that rahul throws a party and Simone, Rahul's fiancé goes missing without a clue. By here rahul started investigating own and some bitter truth which made him shatters. From here story gain its momentum and moves fast, the last three chapters are where author showcased his talent by connecting the human thought process and psychological reasons for that.

The book is upto readers perspective there were no big logic behind the story but suspense is spread everywhere, connecting the character has been complicated for me as I gives importance to story, characters and logics. And I totally disliked the way author formed the female characters and shown men as dominant as always treats women like sex object. I accept that somewhere story demands but here author could avoided some.

With bad, Still it contains good content can term as an "eye opener" by showing the true colors of how innocent can corrupt by money and lusts.

Overall, Fear is the key is mixture experience as contains good and bad opinion from my side. Still I leave it to other individual perspectives.

This novel undoubtedly goes with the thriller at each and every page.Well the story started off with an hide and seek game and slowly catches up the speed.

Rahul and Sushel ,the childhood buddies starts up a digital media company where Rahul handles the in house works and Sushel handles off the hook tasks of the company. There comes an ultimate girl Simone who becomes an important asset to the company. One fine party Simone goes missing which breaks Rahul to the core. She is his fiancee. He decides to search Simone all by himself. Soon the dark secrets melts the ice which will surprise the reader’s mind.

The plot is a neck through work which runs along the entire story ,even a few line about it would become a spoiler. The story will confuse us a lot, well that’s how the thriller works. There were essence of thriller, rage, paranormal, jealous, lust, love and what not an absolute murder too. What are you afraid of? Ofcourse fear played the pivot role. Fear makes us vulnerable to any situation. Are you the real you? That’s what this story is about. Author just walked us towards that fear.

Secret past of the characters were superbly executed and I liked the connection which author had with me(reader). The twist was more way up than surprising and I liked the end part.

Overall Fear Is The Key is Quiet a run through thriller with unexpected twist which would be a complete package for a film.

“Sometimes the worst place you can be at is in your own head.”

Rahul and Suhail are IIT buddies. They start YUMMIMAGE which is a media company. They use every dirty trick in the book to become successful. Simone is there colleague and Rahul’s girlfriend. She has a tiff with Suhail. Rahul keeps a party at his home to cool the matters. Simone goes missing in the party and Rahul starts hallucinating.

The story started well and give a peek into to world of TRP hungry media. There are many steamy sex scenes throughout the book. Then it told about trolls also. But after Simone goes missing it loses direction and wanders aimlessly. I find the book very boring and stretched. So many useless characters were introduced without any rhyme and reason. By climax I lost all interest and it was neither surprising nor ingenious. It was a very long boring psychological thriller. There was no thrill at all.

2/ 5 stars just because of some interesting insights into media and trolls working.

It's a psychological crime thriller. I really liked the psychological elements.

The book started off well, sagged a little in the middle but got very interesting/engrossing towards the end. Characters are well-crafted however there are so many characters, so many points of view that I got confused at times, but I can't say those characters were unnecessary. Maybe this genre requires too many characters. I like the character of Tanya, the psychologist and I liked her interaction with Rahul. Just there are some erotic elements that I didn't like and found it unnecessary.

Overall, an interesting read.

'Fear is the key'.
What intrigued me the most to read this book was the title. I wanted to dive into the story and know how fear destroyed the picture perfect lives of Rahul, Suhel, and Simone. The book held answers, the build-up was good, but I found the end cliched. It was like watching an episode of "Crime Patrol" the whole time. Let's see what I liked or disliked about the book after a quick summary.

Summary:

Two IIT graduates, Rahul and Suhel, follow the path of so many before them. They partner up and start a new company. Yummimages. It is a content-based startup which is doing okay. Then, Simone comes along and brings the wind to its sails. The trio works well and soon create a foothold in the industry. They decide to go public soon after but Suhel and Simone do not look eye to eye on many matters related to execution. The growing tension at the office is affecting Rahul's personal relationship with Simone. To ease things out and to announce his engagement to Simone, Rahul throws a huge party. During this party, Simone disappears without a trace. A hunt begins. Rahul undergoes an almost mental breakdown while trying to find Simone. The only thing he discovers during this wild goose chase can be dangerous to him and to others around him.

What I liked:

The book has most of the elements one expects in a thriller. It is fast paced, is suspenseful, and keeps the reader guessing until the end.
The characters are properly fleshed out, giving a fair insight into their minds. This makes the reader confident in his deductions and the reading more interesting when those deductions fail.
I liked how Juggi has tried to knot all the loose ends,  giving a finality to the read.
The representation of institutions like Police is accurate in some sense. They can be a pain when they want to. But the stereotyping is too strong.
I liked reading about how social media engagement can be used to both create or destroy a person's reputation.

What I did not like:

Like I said earlier, the whole story reads like an episode of 'Saavdhan India'. Don't trust your delivery guy, he may rape you. Don't trust your cab driver, he may rape you. Don't trust yourself, you may rape someone else.
I felt that the author has tried to follow Sidney Sheldon's writing style, with unrelated character sketches in the middle which all merge at the end and extensive use of sexual innuendoes. It only made the reading vulgar.
Women. No doubt, the book has women characters who are in positions of power and decision making, but they all end up as sacrifices at the altar of man's physical needs. Not only that, the book is full of graphic scenes which made me so uncomfortable and I am no prude. Come on! No senior manager would take off her bra in the middle of a meeting.
The biggest disappointment is the end though. It is very cliched. All that buildup for nothing. It is how every other murder mystery thriller ends.

Recommendations:

I would not really recommend this to someone unless they want a quick time pass read while traveling or on a lazy weekend.

Thank you writersmelon for sending me a review copy. All views are my own.

When I read the blurb of this book I was really skeptical about it because the plot seemed very clichéd. But as the story progressed, I realised that this was not any everyday story. When I started reading the book, I really thought that the book somewhat belongs to the comedy genre, but as the story unfolds, it becomes darker and frightening.

Let me talk about the complex characters that the book has - Rahul, Simone and Suhel. From the very beginning, nothing much is revealed about the characters. All that we can know about them is that there is a considerable rift between Simone and Suhel, while Rahul desperately wants his best friend and would-be-fiancée to sail on the same ship. Before Simone's disappearance the readers will get a glimpse of Simone's untold and unregistered fears and after her disappearance the readers will slowly get to know more about the intricate ways in which Rahul works that makes him so determined to find the roots of Simone's disappearance. Suhel's character is not much explored here but his thought processes are an added plot twist in this scenario. There are other characters who add twists to the story and makes it more intriguing.

Now coming to the plot of the story, initially the story did not attract me. It was going really slow and I had no idea where the story was heading to. But after reading 100 pages or so, the story started picking up pace. Nothing really unveils and the story messes up as it progresses. It is only the last 3 chapters where the shocking revelations take place. With complex psychological aspects and human behaviour as its core feature, Fear is the Key has a story that is one of its kind.

This book is 'scary'. Yes, this is the word that I would use to describe this book. It gave me scary dreams. Do not think that the book has gory scenes, but the story itself gives you the chills. Also, this book has a lot of offensive sexual descriptions. So readers may not find these scenes appealing. At first, I found these descriptions to be appalling but slowly I realised that these scenes were essential to the plot.

This book is recommended to all the readers who loves to dig into dark psychological thrillers.

The cover of the book was nothing short of mystical, it was the first indicator of how much I'll like the book. The story line is interesting and intense. Rahul who is a charming and attractive man takes matters into his own hands when his equally beautiful and brilliant wife and co-worker literally vanishes into thin air.

The pace of the story is a mix of slow burn and fast pace in parts. The twists were unexpected and the climax did not disappoint. I will certainly recommend this book to all those who love thriller fiction. One thing I must point out is the style of writing, I wasn't a fan.

Author Juggi Bhasin tries to tell us about fear through this fictional tale which was extremely impactful.

My rating for this book is 3.5/5.

Rahul and his close friend Suhel who are IIT graduates start a digital infotainment site Yummimages. Simone who works for the company and is Rahul's fiancée-to-be has a tiff with Suhel regarding office matters. Rahul decides to throw a party to ease out the tension. During the party, Simone mysteriously disappears and the police is unable to trace her whereabouts. Rahul takes up the challenge and what he discovers is unbelievable.
The book is a thriller which will keep you on your toes. It is well written with some unique characters. The suspense will keep you hooked. The twists were unexpected and the climax did not disappoint. I will certainly recommend this book to all those who love thriller fiction.

Rahul Abhyankar and Suhel Bagga, IIT iians, co founders of a digital infotainment Start up, Yummimages, are almost like brothers since childhood. Entry of Simone, Rahul's girlfriend and the company's chief content officer, causes a stir as she has major differences with Suhel. Torn between love and friendship, Rahul tries a patch up by throwing a party. It is a perfect party of love, sex and drugs and towards the end, when Rahul tries to talk to Simone, she mysteriously disappears. A heart broken Rahul hands over the reins to Suhel and goes on to play detective.

Rest can't be said without spoilers.Read to find out, a worthy read. A good mystery book after a while.

I found the book to be deviating at times, it went from Simone's disappearance, to absolutely no mention of her. I would have felt better if I read more of Simone than reading about the frustrations of a CEO, and his investigative capabilities (during with even the main police officer in charge was lost). The book has certain loose ends, which make the reader wonder 'how was this not questioned' and  'how did he get away with this'. Secondly, the amount of obsession this book has with sex and breasts is incomparable, till a point it becomes disturbing, and most of the sex scenes come out of nowhere with women undressing for no reason at all. So, summarizing it, I felt that the book escalated from its main point to something else on a different tangent altogether.

I really cannot get into this book. Considering it to be a mystery thriller and nothing much happening so far into 30 percent of the book, I really do not want to continue anymore. The characters lack appeal and the writing is a bit too bland considering the pace of the storyline.

Detailed rating:
Narration : 5/5
Characters : 4.5/5
Story : 4/5
Cover : 4.5/5
Language: 5/5

Plot :
A good thriller is the one which can keep you glued till the very end and even after finishing the book you keep on thinking about it. That is exactly what happens in this case. This book revolves around deep and dark feelings and mostly around 'fear' . It will instantly transport you to the life of a Hotshot entrepreneur and his startup that is driven by three main characters of the book . Rahul , Simone and Suhel , each of them different yet necessary for the startup to progress. It is based on Simone's dissapearance and the mystery keeps you going till the very end to find what happened to her.The story touches the complex feelings and passion that we all have but its all about how some people channel it to an extreme positive or extreme negative.

Review:
I started this book with a lot of hopes as i have read about the Author and i was quite sure he would have done justice to it . Thankfully , i was proved right. The book starts at a very easy pace and its easy to get hooked to the story . There is a good connection with things or places we have seen in real life and as the story progressed i could relate to so many things at once. The good thing about the beginning is that it is not just thriller from the page 1. It has love , it has friendship , it has struggle , it has family trauma and so much more to offer. There are small details that don't hold importance earlier but when you get to know the meaning you have a kind of ' Eureka' moment.
The characters are written in a way that you can build up an image in your mind . However, i felt that some of the characters were less explained and i would have loved a bit more depth like it has been provided for the main Character 'Rahul'.
The narration is one of the best part as i never felt its difficult to comprehend or losing track of the story line. Everything is beautifully connected to give a greater picture to the readers. There are certain passages which would trigger your imagination because of the way they are written. This is one positive thing lacking in most books because it sometimes becomes boring when the author tries to express more than it is needed , but full points here for striking a balance between too less detailing and too much detailing for most of the scenes.
It also focuses on some of the issues prevailing in our society that we generally chose to ignore because of our fast paced life.
Another thing noteworthy is that , there are obvious high points and low points in the book. Midway somewhere the author begins to connect different stories together and i felt the book has reached a low point but it was very short thankfully and when i continued and figured the connection it was the perfect high point for me as it intrigued me further and my reading pace increased.
There might be some tracks in the book which will not make sense to everyone and even i felt at some places that what is exactly happening but to be honest , that is what fiction is. :) Most of the things make sense and some just satisfy your imagination for experiencing things that dont make sense.
The best part for me was the ending of this book. I would say reading the last few pages was a difference experience altogether and i couldn't have asked for a better ending . Full justice to being a "Bestselling Thriller" . Just when you think you have understood the plot , there will be a twist waiting to change your perception.
To sum it up , if you like Thrillers you should read this book as it will be an entertaining read for you and if you dont like Thrillers , you should still give it a try as it might just change your interest :)

P.S - I got a review copy of this book through Writersmelon in exchange of an honest review. I have tried to keep my review generic and free of spoilers so that everyone can benefit from it .

The author, Juggi Bhasin is a well-known for the thrillers and crime fictions that he pens. Though I haven’t read any of his previous work, I thought now was a good time to get my hands on his book.

Fear is The Key is no doubt a psychological thriller. I derived that conclusion even before I actually landed on the genre of the book. Also, you can pretty much form an idea that it would have to do something with mind games given the title, Fear is The Key.

The lead protagonist Rahul Abhyankar who is an IIT Graduate had a chance at being a billionaire when he decided to ditch the campus interviews and be his own boss. That is when he started off with a Digital Infotainment Site, Yummimages with his childhood friend cum follower Suhel. What started out as a tiny attempt at creating his own space amidst the swarm of large digital sites was now one of the most popular ones out there that it became the talk of the town. Simone, who was hired for Content Development in the early stages of Yummimages, have now become an important part of Rahul’s life. Rahul and Suhel get involved into an heated argument which soon turns into a fight and they leave things there, unfinished. To make amends and as a peace offering, Rahul throws a party at his house. Everyone’s in party mode, booze pouring in, but out of nowhere, Simone vanishes into thin air. One second she is enjoying herself and the next, she is gone.

Coming on to how I liked the book. I am going to be frank here, I wasn’t into the story right from the beginning. It didn’t pique my interest right from prologue. I wasn’t overly excited either. But, slowly it kind of built on to me and I started liking it more as I kept on turning the pages. It’s not one of those books that would keep you hooked right from the beginning but it’s more of a drug which spreads through your system gradually.

Now for the part which I missed in the book. It would be that I wasn’t really able to connect with the characters on an emotional level. I wasn’t feeling what they were feeling. Maybe, I am suffering from a reading slump or something but, truth be told, I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. There was so much happening, so many mind games going on that somewhere I felt that the characters forgot that they have to have feelings. Too much psychology does that to you, I guess! ( I am talking about myself).

Story

Yummimages, a digital infotainment site unlike no other is the brainchild of Rahul and Suhel, two childhood best friends straight out of IIT. With creative inputs from Simone, Rahul's fiancee-to-be, the start-up is soaring sky high, until one-day things start heating up between Suhel and Simone. To set things right between the two, Rahul organises a grand party at his house. But all hell breaks loose when Simone goes missing from the venue.

As investigations heed no results, Rahul, even when on the verge of a mental meltdown, decides to search for Simone on his own. As things start unfolding one by one, what is Simone's connection with a swimming instructor, a pizza delivery boy and a Zuber driver? Will Rahul be able to find Simone?

What I loved

For a crime thriller, the story progressed quite well. The suspense factor was quite high and I found it almost impossible to put the novel down. The writing is good, though not exceptional, and the pace of the story had me glued to the book rather than the writing itself.

I loved the entire setup of the novel, with the uber cool startup in Gurugram as the backdrop, the gradual unravelling of the possible perpetrators of the crime, and the connections that Rahul draw between the same and Simon.

What didn’t work for me

I hated how almost all the entire female characters in the book were highly sexualised. Except for one character that was significant to the plot, this was completely unnecessary when it came to the rest. If the author had avoided this, I would have easily given the book a rating of 3.5.

Though it began as a fast-paced novel, I found the last couple of chapters a bit mundane. The characters were portrayed in a weak manner and failed to connect with me; which for me is very important. Towards the end, there were numerous loopholes and this ruined the plot further.

Conclusion

Fear Is The Key by Juggi Bhasin is a fast-paced crime thriller set in the startup hub of Gurugram. Though it had a brilliant plot, poor characterisation, and uncalled for complications led to the novel failing to leave a mark on me. I would recommend it if you are into crime thrillers that are plot driven and/or if you are looking for an engaging short read.

Writing a psychological thriller is a tricky genre. There are hundred different things you have to take care of to make sure you serve the right mix of elements to the readers. Juggi Bhasin’s latest novel “FEAR IS THE KEY” claims to be one such novel. But does it succeed in keeping the readers hooked till the end? Well, almost…

“Yummimages” is a digital platform run by three people – Rahul, Suhel and Simone. Rahul and Suhel are thick friends since college days and their friendship is one of those unbreakable ones. Then comes Simone who instantly entices Rahul but on the other hand, develops a slow but sure enmity with Suhel. To sort out things between the two, Rahul hosts a party at his house during which Simone mysteriously disappears. Even after the police thoroughly investigate, they are unable to solve the mysterious disappearance of Simone.
Finally, Rahul decides to solve the mystery himself. As he goes further, he realizes he has to battle his inner demons as well as three characters who are so queer that he is left baffled.
What happened to Simone? We find out in the last few pages of the book.

Juggi Bhasin’s writing is clear, to the point and grammatically non complex. There are definitely loopholes, but his ability to hold you till the end compensates for the rest.
The suspense is pretty unexpected and much more complex than I had fathomed. In his quest to convert this novel from a simple thriller to a psychological suspense, Juggi Bhasin delivers a pretty good novel.

The USP of the book is the way Bhasin develops his characters. The character sketches of Simone and Suhel are pretty well done, but it is Rahul’s character that bowls you over. Also, the other three characters who play an integral role in the book are engrossing.

Secondly, the ending of the book is filmy, scary and yet entertaining.
Also, I have to mention inspector Kripal. He was fabulous.

There are flaws indeed. The writer goes into too much depth at times, making few portions slightly boring. Also, the psychiatric sessions between Rahul and Tanya are a bit overdone at times.
The erotica too is slightly over the top.

OVERALL, it is not at all a perfect thriller, but “Fear is the key” is definitely a very good read. I would definitely recommend it.

A crazy new generation firm where the employees come to office in flip flops and shorts. The Yummimages, wherein people flush out their frustrations, become the talk of the time and flourishes in no time. Nevertheless a minor mistake by one of the employees affect the firm to such an extend that the co-owners Rahul and Suheil had to do several gimmicks to clear the mess. While they somehow manages to get back into the right track, Simone, the star employee of the firm disappears into thin air. In order to make matters worse, the tiff between Simone and Suheil is unerathed by the investigating officer who leaves no chance to pull them down. Rahul, who had been dating Simone fall into depression and starts hallucinating. However, he gains his composure and sets out to find the secret that he was unaware of, which brings him to three persons- Usman, Fredo and Dubey who had been directly or indirectly connected to Simone.

The book is crafted in such a way that, as a reviewer, I might contradict myself. At one point, the graphic details of the making out sequences were unwanted and pulled down the book to the level of a B-grade erotica. On the other hand, at a different level, to depict the characters of Usman, Fredo, Dubey and Rahul himself, some of the sequences were inevitable. The book can be misleading and eye opening at the same time. How it reaches to the readers depends on the perspective that the readers would like to establish in their psyche.

There are a lot of scenarios which are thought provoking like a driver making himself available in the same location so that he can get acquainted with a woman, or an innocent faced boy who gains the trust so that he can carryout his lecherous desires and so on and so forth. The climax however failed to impress me. There is indeed a twist but it was well expected. The highlight of the book would be the interactions between Rahul and Tanya.

The book cover needs a special mention. Now a days publishers take random pictures from shutterstock for the book cover. In such a scenario a hand gripping a shard tool in the blue background with the title Fear is the Key surely sends the right message forcing the reader to pick up the book because whatever the saying says, we still judge a book with its cover.

Rahul, a graduate from IIT Delhi, heads a popular infotainment site, Yummimages. He is assisted by his close friend, Suhel. While Rahul is smart and enterprising, Suhel lets his muscular hands do the talking. After the inclusion of the new content head, Simone, the traffic of the site reaches a new high.

Suhel and Simone always seemed to be at loggerheads with each other. But this time, they had a major fallout. Rahul felt utterly helpless to make a choice between the two people, he loved the most in this world. He throws a lavish party in his house, in order to restore order in his company.

The party was in full swing, with unlimited drinks flowing around, when chaos struck. Simone was no where to be seen. A search party was sent to track her. But, the search turned out to be futile.

The police was summoned and a missing complaint was filed. There was no breakthrough in the case.i Rahul became restless by the each passing day and decided to take the matter in his own hands. After some investigation he managed to round off three suspects, Usman, a swimming instructor, Frodo, a pizza delivery guy and Dubey, a cab driver.

The case gets murkier and dark secrets spill out. Will he be able to find the culprit and confront his fears? Read the book to find out.

The plot didn't hold contain my interest in the beginning. However it got better in the subsequent pages.

It had it's set of spine chilling, fear instilling moments. I liked how the author tapped the psychology of the mind and impulsive behaviour. It also exposed the dark truth carefully concealed in a veil of glamour that is pretty much evident in the entertainment industry. The author's analogy of fear was very apt. The major flaw in this book was character development. I could'nt connect with any of them. I didn't like the way how the female characters were treated. All were nothing but mere sex objects in the hands of dominating men. The ending didn't take me by surprise, rather it turned out as I expected it to be.

The novel is a one time read. It might interest you, if you are a fan of dark fiction and psychological thrillers.

To start with, this book’s cover intrigued me a lot…When I started reading, I guessed about the flow of the story.. But all my predictions were wrong.. Kudos to the Author for his brilliant writing..This book is fast pacing, thrilling with unexpected twists and turns..

Rahul Abhyankar, an IIT graduate, runs Yummimages, a digital infotainment site, along with his business partner and close friend Suhel Bagga..Rahul is in relationship with Simone who works in his company..Suhel and Simone fight with each other due to some problems in office..Rahul plans a party at his house to set things right between his close friend and lover..But Simone mysteriously disappears from the party..Rahul is totally worried as police is not able to trace her..He starts investigating and suspects that Fredo (a pizza delivery boy), Usman (swimming instructor) and Dubey (a taxi driver) may be connected with Simone’s disappearance..He finally finds out the truth which is totally unbelievable and unpredictable..

So, if you think that this book is all about revenge, then you are wrong..This story is not as simple as it seems to be!!! I loved the complexity a lot..I don’t wish to reveal more but you can definitely expect the unexpected…

Author talks about Fear in this book… We all do something in our life that we don’t like mainly due to fear..We have to confront our fears and if we fail to do so, it will surely take us down..I feel understanding a person is not an easy task..We get fooled by a person’s behavior and have wrong perceptions about him/her..At times, Truth is stranger than fiction!!!

Overall, I feel that this book is very good, interesting, mind-blowing and unputdownable..I enjoyed reading this book..If you like reading fiction thrillers, then you should definitely read this!!!

My rating for this book is 4.5/5.

Blurb-
‘A bitter winter wind blowing outside spoke to me. There was no one else. And then it struck me. She might have truly disappeared! Sometimes, you get a sense of these things . . .’

It’s been one hell of a tough week at Yummimages, a digital infotainment site, with controversies seeping into the politicking within the office. To calm things down, Rahul, the founder, plans a party at his home. His goal is to set things right between his fiancée-to-be, Simone, and his business partner and close friend, Suhel. With the party in full swing it’s time for Rahul to have ‘the talk’, but suddenly Simone is nowhere to be found.

As all investigations come to naught, Rahul takes matters into his own hands and soon has a few suspects lined up. It’s just a matter of time before he knows the truth. But reality can be so twisted, so bizarre, so utterly unbelievable . . .

This book, by the creator of Agent Rana, will continue to give you chills long after you have read it.

Review-
Fear is the key, by Juggi Bhasin will show you an entirely new plot with different kinds of twists in the story. Sometimes you can never predict the real truth when it comes to thrill, unless you read it completely. A well maintained plot and suspense as needed. The cover of the book could have been much more better and the title completely goes with the story. Use of lucid language makes it a good read and one cannot understand the story unless the person reads it in on shot.
Author could have worked a little more on the facts and the essentials a thriller book needs. It missed many needed essentials. Felt bored after few parts of the book which could have been changed easily. This book is truly an amazing book you can choose to read for the weekend.

The blurb of the book looked very interesting when I first read it. Unfortunately, when I started to read the book, it was far from interesting. Initially, I literally dragged myself to read the book, until in the midway, the story started to take pace. The more the story progressed, the more twists and turns came in the way, especially in the last few chapters, which changed everything. The climax was unexpected and shocking, but however, it didn't give me any chills as it was stated in the blurb.

The writing style was blunt and abrasive and it didn't impress me much. Moreover, the author has used many offensive words which I felt was unnecessary. Presence of erotic elements in the story was certainly not appealing. It was the biggest turn off in the story,( at least for me!) and I felt very disgusted. I could not relate with any of the characters and was unable to sympathize with them. Other than the main characters ( Rahul, Suhel and Simone), some other characters also comes in between, which was necessary, but then I feel that the exaggerated description of those characters was not really required.

The plus point in the story, which stopped me from giving two stars was, the presence of psychological aspects in the story. Being a psychology student myself, it really did interest me when I was reading those parts.

Overall, I would say that the book was an okay one time read. One who likes erotic psychological thrillers, might like to read it.

A dark deep psychological thriller which have ample amount of twist and turns, erotic content and shocking revelations. Two IIT friends Rahul and Suheel start a new company Yummimages. They hire the unconventional beautiful Simone as the creative head. All was going well. But suddenly the whole world turned upside down for Rahul with the disappearance of his would be fiance from his party. He starts his own investigation to trace the whereabouts of Simone. During the process, some mind boggling truths are unearthed which stirs up the hornet's nest.

The cover is attractive. The title and blurb piqued my interest. The plot is written meticulously and the language used is simple but contains lot of cuss words. The characters are well etched and have their own story. There are many stories running parallel which are woven together at the end. A psychological factor works throughout the plot which keep the story moving. The psychological state of a human mind and its fears is well explored. All my deductions after connecting the dots at guessing the culprit fails. The climax is a complete shocker and very unpredictable gave me goosebumps.

There are few things which didn't worked for me.Women are featured in a degrading light and the unnecessary use of cuss words disturbed me a lot.The character of Suheel was not well explored Parallel stories acted as a diversion for me and disturbed the flow of the story. I felt the climax was not fully justified. The writer failed to do justice to the title.
Thank you Writersmelon for the review copy.

Fear is the Key by Juggi Bhasin is story of a girl who has just disappeared. Nothing is known about her. Simon disappeared from a party where everyone from her office, including her boss cum boy friend Rahul was present. Rahul is shattered by her sudden disappearance. Neither the police is able to find any lead. That is when Rahul takes the investigation in his hands. There are three suspects. A pizza delivery boy, a swimming instructor and a driver. They all have seen Simon’s inviting bronze complexion and were drawn towards her. Some for lust and some for the money that voyeurism offered. The story unravels and we come across a gory, scary end.

I liked the book for its narration. It creates characters that are true to life yet intriguing. There is something which each of them in holding back. There are ulterior motives and hidden agendas. The office space is nicely described in the book. The same stands true with Rahul investigations. The Haryani cop Kripal appears to have fallen from the bollywood movies and landed up right into the novel. He hardly has any investigation to do. Rahul and Suhel’s past continues to haunt them. Suhel arranges a psychiatrist for Rahul. She too soon disappears – as if the earth had gulped her down.

The book cast a spell on me and I simply couldn’t put it down. Though I didn’t like the climax, it doesn’t mean that Fear is the Key is a bad book. If you love thrillers, you shouldn’t miss this.

Fear is the Key is a story based in modern day Gurugram. It involves three people mainly, Rahul, Suhel and Simone. Rahul and Simone are childhood buddies, who went to IIT together and then they start a start up called Yummimages. Simone is their creative head who converts their company into a big success story.
But, one day, suddenly Simone disappears out of nowhere! The story begins here, what happens to her, how does she disappear, who all are involved in this mystery, the story is all about the answers to these questions.
Fear is the Key, is fast paced, written in a simple and easy to read language, hard to put down, most readers will finish it in a session or two. The story has its quota of Sex, Romance, Action, Drama, and everything a Bollywood pot boiler might have. The story ends with a thrilling suspense which makes the reader go “Wow”.
The characters in the story have been well defined and can be visualised with the way each one has been potrayed. Full credit to Juggi Bhasin to have written this thriller in a way even a novice reader would find it easy to grasp and the editing is just perfect. There is no room for confusion or complication in the script which would take the reader away from the plot.
Overall, a well written novel, not too long not too short, easy to understand and visualise, and a sort of book which is hard to keep down, one might well finish the story in one go to see what happens next!

Rahul, the young, attractive, brilliant entrepreneur, and the founder of the very successful company Yummimages faces a grave trouble. His childhood friend and business partner Suhel and Simone, his fiancée-to-be who is also the creative head of his company are at each other’s throats. The company’s reputation is at stake. In order to bring things under control, Rahul throws a party at his home where his whole office is invited. Initially, Simone plays the perfect hostess and is the life of the party, but as the revellers gradually become intoxicated, she disappears, without a trace.
Unhappy with the investigation of Simone’s disappearance, Rahul begins his own explorations into the case. Soon, three suspects are lined up and as the story progresses, he starts finding connections between them. One incident from Rahul’s IIT days start making appearances and seems to have a deep association with the current happenings.
But nothing is actually how they are apparently.
Fear is the Key will disarm you. The ending is absolutely unexpected. The book is a study of the working of a human mind, and how dangerous and bizarre it can get. The character sketches are real; Bhasin handles the plot with dexterity. It takes a lot of skill to write a thriller, and the author has left no strings untied.

Cleverly crafted, the book a suspense thriller takes the reader on a journey that’s sure to give one the goose bumps not because it is a murder mystery but because it has something that goes beyond the ordinary act of murder such as a slash with the knife or a bullet in the head. It is confusing and confounding. In fact it is a head- scratcher.

A few hairpin bends (twists and turns) up, one comes to a climax that’s sure to make you clap your forehead for……….it is……… I’ll leave it to you to read and analyse.

The language is simple, crisp and lucid making the read smooth- sailing. The pace is perfect and the style of narration is one best suited for a plot of this kind.

The characters are well- articulated and come across as normal human beings prone to virtues and vices. Be it the crafty Rahul with the face of a kitten and the mind of a crafty fox, the over-bearing ready to pounce lion akin Suhel, the proud as a peacock Simone or the greedy wolf of an Inspector Kripal, each one merges into the story with finesse and help take it forward without a hitch, without a bump.

In short, ‘Fear is the Key’ is sure to take the reader through a maze of alleys, alleys of glamour, glitz, deception, defeat and more…… It is a psychological thriller of sorts.

Starting of with the cover it is really intriguing giving more power to the title’fear’. The colours do the wonder to bring out the fear. The story revolves around rahul, suhel and simone who goes missing at the party. The title is riveting. After reading the blurb you do want to know what the story is all about. The book starts off good and gets a bit confusing towards the middle. Too many twists are there in the book which makes it more interesting to read. It is a little long read.Characterization has been done well. The story could have much better flow. You might think the book is about finding simone which instead leads to a truth which is rather really huge. The language used is easy. Plot is good. The author has written with alot of research and keeping all the characters intact all the time. The book is mediumly paced. Friendship, romance, psychology, revenge all the themes are used. The ending leaves you with goosebumps. The imagery formed by the author is a tremendous job done with ease. Book filled with suspense and thrill. A good book.

Overall -4/5.
