白银帝国：一部新的中国货币史

货币是一国经济繁荣与衰退的大转轮。白银作为货币的主要形态之一，在中国宋元以降直至近代、时间跨度近1000年的中国货币史中扮演了尤为重要的角色。自16世纪40年代起，中国以白银为媒介参与创建世界市场，开始向“白银帝国”演变，并创造了繁荣盛世；而18—19世纪，西方过渡到金本位并逐渐孕育出现代金融系统时，中国仍然固守银本位，“白银帝国”逐渐走向末路。

Good intro into Chinese monetary history through the lens of silver.

I am glad the author did not venture into communist history at all. I find that authors from China have a tendency to sing praises of the Chinese Communist party. This unfortunately casts doubt to the credibility of all of their work. This author smartly stopped before 1949 so I find the book readable.

There is a thought these days that rudderless fiat currencies are causing problems of inflation and other social issues however from Chinese history it appears using a noble metal did not solve all problems, merely introduced another set, deflation among others.

与郭建龙的《中央帝国的财经密码》相比，还是显得薄弱。但郭书缺乏民国部分，此书有不错的补充。
