Barbara Ebel is an award-winning and USA Today Bestselling Author who sprinkles credible medicine into the background of her medical suspense novels. Since she is a physician and specialized in Anesthesiology, her operating room scenes shine. However, her vivid characters and plots take center stage.

She has penned three medical suspense series, and two separate medical novels. Definitely check out the New Book Release at the bottom.....

“Doctor Barbara’s” Dr. Annabel Tilson series includes six books (which can each stand alone), and is based on a female medical sleuth who promises exciting times on the wards as well as in her personal life. Two books in the series have won awards: Death Grip, the 4th book, won the 2018 NIEA award (National Indie Excellence Award), and Deadly Delusions won the 2017 Kindle Book Awards Semi-Finalist for thrillers.

Her first series, the Dr. Danny Tilson novels, takes place in Tennessee and is based on a neurosurgeon who has his hands full in the O.R. as well as in his personal life due to a female villainess, a favorite character of readers (who have a love-hate relationship with her). Dr. Danny’s third book, Collateral Circulation, was the 2015 National Indie Excellence Awards Finalist for Medical Thrillers. Operation Neurosurgeon, the first book in the series, was the top finalist for best-selling medical mystery books in 2012. (Best Selling Books' blog announced on PR Buzz Press Release Wire, Chicago, IL).

Dr. Ebel lives in a natural wildlife corridor in Tennessee with her husband and dogs. She maintains an active, non-clinical role in medicine, and loves to hear from readers.

NEW BOOK RELEASE April 2024:

"BLUE, the Deaf Agility Dog," is a heartwarming story about BLUE, who is a deaf, rescued dog owned and trained by the author.

I like the cover.
This is a very slow-building story and it just didn’t have the pop that “Operation Neurosurgeon,” had.
The main character, Dr. Annabel Tilson, is a third-year medical student. She stops off at a local sub shop to pick up her colleague’s order. A gentleman, Jae Nixon stumbles in and collapses in a chair. Annabel eyes him with curiosity and tries to medically diagnose him in her mind. As she’s leaving, Jae attempts to stand up and fails. She offers and insists he go to the ER where she works just to be checked out. He is diagnosed with the flu and sent on his way.
He will return within a week with worsening symptoms that will have him being induced into a coma and placed on a ventilator. What in the world could he have caught?
Enter a dog and another patient and the hospital staff is becoming perplexed over this strange disease. There are a lot of guesses and one of the med students overhears Jae’s coworker discussing a disease called Leptoospirosis. He, Jordan Maldonado, one of the students with a shady personality, has no idea she’s talking to the vet and decides to one-up his colleagues with his newfound knowledge. Let’s just say when the laundry is taken out, so is he. Enter a new diagnosis of Ehrlichiosis that Annabel’s best friend and colleague has contracted. What in the world could be causing this?
There is also a very slow-developing love story with Annabel and Officer Dustin.
There is plenty of drama running through this story, but the development was just too slow for me and the addition of the cause of the disease is a product of “climate change,” definitely had me scratching my head.
So, what is causing the spread of two viruses? You’ll have to pick up a copy to find out.
Overall, it’s not a bad read, but for me, it didn’t have the punch of “Operation Neurosurgeon.”
I only came across one grammatical issue “We should let her (to) concentrate on her lecture, in my opinion.” Delete the word to.
Who will like this? Women, across the board.
Definitely an HEA.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I began this book believing it was a stand alone and I was surprised to find that it was number four in the series about Dr. Annabel Tilson, medical student.

The focus of most of the cases encountered by Annabel was infectious diseases, specifically tick-borne. Because of climate change, such as warmer winters in the north, tick carrying mammals like the white footed mouse are moving their habitats northward. In the near future, we are more likely to see more cases of the rare Powassan and Ehrlichiosis illnesses as people encounter the ticks and subsequent tick bites in their everyday activities.

As Annabel struggles to get through her internal medicine rotation, she must work on challenging relationships with family members, classmates and others.

If you are interested at all in epidemiology or just the impact changing climate has on our lives, this book is for you.

Meanwhile, I am going to go search out the first three books in this series
for some interesting reading.

This is a great book to read, it’s very well researched and written so that although it is fiction it is very factual! Although being a medical drama it is still an easy to read book, that has lots of drama and intrigue that held my attention throughout. The characters are believable and well rounded, they fit in to the plot very nicely. It’s the first book I have read in this series and by this author, but it is most certainly not going to be the last. If you enjoy a medical drama, then this is the perfect book for you! Although I received a free copy of the book to review via Booksprout I enjoyed it so much I purchased it as well!

Good story line, consistent and steady plot development, interesting and believable characters. Interesting, and technically correct descriptions of medical procedures. Interesting medical and pathological facts interspersed through the story. And the diagnostic process was consistent with my own practice. Only negative was the inclusion of sexual liaisons of the protagonist that seemed gratuitous, as if readers needed to see this before they could accept her as a real person. But these were easily skimmed over to get to the “real” story. I plan to read more of this series

An enthralling read.

I loved this book because it was written by a knowledgeable author. I liked the descriptions of student doctors, and their training. Barbara pulls no punches when describing medical procedures and treatments. It was wonderful being treated like an intelligent reader, and not being patronisied. The best thing is that it is a thrilling story with great characters.

Pretty interesting story about interns and one of their rotations. Pressure to succeed, love life, competition between suitors and doctors, mentors helping interns, intertwined with the patients life and conditions, and helping each other. Oh, lets not forget dogs too. I'd read another one in the series.

top notch

Great story and I learned so much about so many medical problems. But the best piece of info was a quote from Native American Indians “We have walked together in the shadow of a rainbow”. Can’t wait to start book 5

Continue this series

I learned so much about those buggers, the ticks. I never imagined that there were so many diseases that a tick bite could cause and how serious they are. I so enjoy reading about Dr. Annabel Tilson's medical and personal life.

The book is said to be a medical thriller but it's not thrilling.

It's a decent story about medical interns and their rotation and people who get sick. Being a nurse I enjoyed the medical discussions, and I suppose it can be called a thrilling novel but it's really not. I was expecting suspense and mystery and on those counts it just didn't deliver.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
