Crossbite: A Sailor Ray and Blaze Monroe Supernatural Urban Fantasy Vampire Hunting Short

Rate this book
We both promised to avenge Mom’s death, but there’s something else we have to do first. It’s part of the job when you’re a hunter and it’s hard turn a blind eye when people are suffering at the hands of the supernatural.

Vampires are picking off college kids and turning them to grow their ranks. So far, at least a half dozen are confirmed to be connected to the case.

We’re going to stop them…the three of us. Dad, Blaze, and myself, and save who we can along that way.

Dad’s worried about us, but I can handle myself. Blaze can, too. Even if it’s risky dealing with vamps, he has to trust me because that’s the only way we’ll be ready when the time comes to face Mom’s killer.

I got an ARC copy from the author in the hopes for a review.

I was rather busy with my demanding job to be able to write my review but this is Super Bowl Sunday and I always get this day off. Yaay!

The only novels from this author that I have read have been The Last Light series. I know that Alex's Urban Fantasy Sailor Ray series is his most popular work but I have never really delved into it (UF isn't exactly my preferred fantasy genre). In a way, I was entering this series with fully open expectations because I wasn't familiar with the full-fledged novels.

This short novella is basically a vampire hunting case where Sailor, her father and her boyfriend Blaze are in a rural college town to rescue a handful of kidnapped students before they are tortured and eventually converted into new vampires. The surroundings of the first scene are grim where the three heroes are inside of an abandoned warehouse where the father is torturing a captured vampire for information. Disgusted by the spectacle, Sailor quietly leaves the building and has a candid conversation with Blaze about the importance of avenging her mother's death.

However, they are not alone. Confronted by a horde of angered vampires without sufficient weapons, the risk of being converted themselves looms in every corner and they must prove their wits and teamwork if they are to save the victims before it's too late.

With a fast speed and nice character development, I liked this short story and I can see that Alex's writing skills are getting better with each subsequent book. I enjoyed the brief tidbits of character development that doesn't spoil everything and the nice flow to the conclusion of this story.

The book doesn't seem to have serious typos, but the proper usage between its and it's were mixed up. That is an easy fix. While I'm personally not that into UF novels, this novella has piqued my interest sufficiently to give the full series a try sometime.

Good job!

Wow! I absolutely loved this. This is a prequel which gives me more insight to the characters I have fallen in love reading about.
Great well developed story and a cast of wonderful characters once again.
We get a bit of back story on our characters which gives them more depth.
Plenty of action, plenty of vampires, plenty of blood.....what more could you want? I am looking forward to reading the rest of these books because I love the genre and Mr. Villavasso does a great job.
I say we have a cross of Supernatural mixed with Buffy and I love it!!!

Like all Alex Villavasso books - this one is no exception. He brings the excitement-vampires- and the showdowns betweens them. He makes the readers feel like they are right there apart of the story. In this particular one- we are induced to Sailor Ray right after her mother is murdered. Blaze, her dad and her are out hunting a group of vampires. They are looking for a group of lost teenagers. Will they find them ? What happens to Sailor Ray- Blaze and her father?
This is a fantastic story- I recommend it to everyone . Especially those that love Paranormal and Vampires. I give this a 5 mouse paw ( star) . Now what are you waiting for ? Run and get your Copy today. Don't forget to mark it on Goodreads as TO READ ! Then Get Your Copy Today!

Crossbite was a good short read and made me want to read more about Sailor. I would like to know what did her dad do that led to her mom’s death. I like how it is kind of a cross between Supernatural and Vampire Slayer. I would also like to read about how they met up with Blaze and how in the main novel she ends up on her own. I guess I will have to look into more of his books to find out. I liked the way Villavasso the relationship of each character as well as why even though it may seem more kinder to do things a different way they are actually doing the more humane thing to those bit.
I received a free copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

I got an ARC copy from the author in the hopes for a review, and this review is entirely voluntary.

As much as I enjoyed this story, I was glad it was only a short.
I'm a huge fan of Supernatural, and hunter stories in general, but this story didn't flow. The plot was interesting, as were the characters, but the writing style was choppy, and more than a little stiff. A skilled editor or a lesson in conjunctions could easily push this three star book into the four and a half or five star range.

I adore Sailor Ray and have really enjoyed Alex Villavasso’s stories about her and Blaze Monroe. So it’s no surprise that I grabbed at the chance to gobble up this prequel. I’m so glad I did as Crossbite does exactly what a great prequel should do. First, it’s a great story with wonderful characters in itself even for someone who has never read the other books. And second, for those of us totally addicted to these tales, it provides great backstory for both characters that really give the reader an enhanced understanding of them.

Highly recommended.

rcvd an advanced reader copy for giving my two cents. a prequel to the series where we meet Sailor, a vampire hunter just like her famous father along with her bff Blaze. she wants to rid the world of vampires and help her dad avenge the death of her mother. on a hunting night they encounter a few vamps and realize then have been set up. now with the help.of blaze and her dad they set off for an abandoned house in search of innocent college kids taken and possibly turned. will they succeed in finding them alive? will they come face to pale face.with the vamp leader?

What a great start to a series that I can see going a long way. It had good strong characters and a great storyline with plenty of action. The only reason I have given it four stars instead of five is that it is quite short due to it being a prequel, so I look forward to reading more from this series. If you enjoy Urban Fantasy about hunters of supernatural beings such as vampires then you will really enjoy this book.

This is the first book I have read by Alex Villavasso, but it definitely won't be the last. This short story/prequel to his other books is a great introduction to the worlds of Sailor Ray and Blaze Monroe.

Plenty of action, plenty of vampires, plenty of blood.....what more could you want? I am looking forward to reading the rest of these books because I love the genre and Mr. Villavasso does a great job.

Crossbite gives us a small taste of a new series set in the Sailor Ray world. It's fast paced and full of action right from the start. I enjoyed getting a peek into Sailor's family life and her beginnings as a hunter. Can't wait for the next book. Good read.

For those who want to know: This one has violence and some language.

Plenty of action and a quick, light read.
Enjoyable enough story but the writing was a little clunky in places which made for a slightly choppy read.
It's almost too short to give much more than a brief glimpse into the characters. Still, vampire hunting is always good fodder and this made for a nice little snack.

This is a great introduction into Sailor’s life as a Supernatural Hunter, along with her Dad and her boyfriend, Blaze, they are focused on hunting down a nest of vamps who kidnap and harvest humans for survival and growth. Driven by her Mother’s death, she seeks to eliminate the world of their threat. Can’t wait to read more!

This is a very good short story/prequel. This storyline is well-written, action-packed, fast-paced, engaging and the characters are awesome. There is a backstory to flesh out the story and characters. Great Read! I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.

This is not the kind of book that I would normally read. It is well written and has a lot of action to hold the readers interest. If you enjoy vampire stories then this is a great book for you. I’m just not a fan of Vampires Tales.

Vampires are bad for you

This short prequel introduced the reader to the heroine of the later books. It explains why she is hunting vampires and how they attempt to eradicate the vampires an excellent read that will appeal to all readers

Interesting enough to start the series. Always on the lookout for strong characters and Sailor Ray is promising enough to continue.
