In the city of Justice, a woman in a flowing dress haunts the local cemetery, the city streets, and its outlying areas. No one has been able to pinpoint the source of this ghost's origins or the reason for its unrest. But then a string of attacks on the Justice streets at night lend people to think there is no justice in the city of Justice. The ghost rouses the victims' families into action. They hire a paranormal investigator named Mr. Chrysikos with a unique Graflex camera and a singular skill to track this ghost down and put an end to her. With his Graflex, Mr. Chrysikos is able to imprison his ghostly victims within the camera's celluloid photographs.
And at a jazz club, a man named Johannas Pascal dances with an elegant, breathtaking young woman to his utter delight. She is the epitome of "his kind of girl" and he hasn't been able to stop thinking about her. The only problem is that Pascal can't track her down again. He has fallen for the woman and he has to find her. Armed with various tools, Pascal stakes her out.
Along the way, Pascal befriends a woman who helps in his search, her motives not truly clear. And a little girl lends her assistance and advice when it isn't sought. Pascal's exhausting search is fraught with perilous danger as it would seem that menacing ghosts wants to hinder him as much as possible.
Unbeknownst to each, Pascal's and Chrysikos' paths are set to collide in a riveting conflict as they search for their quarries. Who is Pascal's mystery woman and will he re-unite with her? And will Chrysikos pinpoint the source of his ghost's origins and the reason for its unrest? Will his hunt succeed to banish the ghost forever to a phantom hell within one of his camera's celluloid prisons?
Not if Pascal has anything to say about it.
And so, in this paranormal thriller and romance, a two-fold cataclysmic hunt begins for the woman named Ambrosia and the ghost called Resurrection Mary.
JK Battaglia grew up playing outdoors from sun up to sun down. But he was introduced to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins at the age of 12 by a cousin during one summer. And life hasn't been the same since as he began to devour fantasy and science fiction novels. In his adult life, he's branched out into other books as well, but his mind is at home in fantasy and science fiction. He wrote Photogeist, A Hope Of Life, and A Slice Of Life while working as a Software Engineer. He is also the author of 'Twas The Tragedy Before Christmas and other works. He cherishes all sorts of other things too - quite numerous to mention here but a few are movies, music, art, comics, treehouses, fishing, boating, robots, drones, animals, hiking, roller coasters, and learning about new technologies. When he's not writing, he's probably enjoying one of the above or just relishing in the outdoors. JK Battaglia lives in the greater Chicagoland area.
"From the first chapter of Photogeist by J.K. Battaglia, you will be hooked. The author has created a spine-tingling novel filled with suspense, horror and romance. The plots have been cleverly intertwined with one another. Be prepared to follow this gripping story until the explosive and dramatic ending, an ending that you will not expect. If you enjoy a paranormal thriller, then you will not find a greater example than this book. The characters were rich and believable. The scenes throughout were excellently written and transported you into the story. Every one of my senses has been touched in reading this book. The emotionally sad love story between Pascal and Ambrosia was heartwarming. I thought the epilogue was a great addition to the story. I am definitely going to read this story again because I feel it is so layered that you really need to read it more than once. I loved this story; it was gripping from the first chapter." - Readers' Favorite, 5 Stars
I got a digital copy of Photogeist from a Goodreads giveaway. The concept of capturing ghosts in photos is intriguing and the book was easy to get into. It could use some more editing to clean up the dialog and tighten up the plot, but all in all it was a pretty quick read.
This was, for a title that seemed like it needed a bit more editing and feedback before publishing, a hard to stop reading title. I won this one through the Goodreads giveaways and even though it wasn't totally awesome, it wasn't totally horrible either. It was full of some very imaginative scenes and cool technology. Plus, it had decent action and characters that, even underdeveloped, I actually cared about enough to keep reading. This being said, this title is supposed to have a updated version, so maybe I'll have to give it a second read
I was lucky enough to win this book from Goodreads Giveaway but I am giving my honest review.
I truly enjoyed this book as it was quite different than what I normally read. Without giving to much away, I loved the idea of being able to capture ghostly apparitions with an old fashioned 🎥. Also, the lengths a person would go through all in the name of love. This is somewhat of a bittersweet HEA. I invite you to read this fascinating story, you won’t regret it!
I absolutely loved this story. I love story about ghosts and this one was about the hitchhiker. I can't I would go as far to give my life up for a ghost, but this story moved me to tears, anger, and grief. Not all stories have a happy ending. I have one question will there be a story about the painting?? I hope so because I am curious.
I won this book on Goodreads for an honest review.
WOW, I really liked this book and highly recommend this haunting story to anyone that likes a good, thrilling, nail biting tale. The characters are richly described and the scenery to the story is easy to vision. The story is very well written and really keeps you hanging on. I plan to read more from this author because wow they know how to write something exciting and wonderfully scary enough for e to read!
As I was unable to finish this book after reading only a few chapters I don't see it as fair to leave a star rating. And I am basically writing this review for myself so I know why I was unable to finish it. First off, the writing of the story line in this book was good. But the dialogue I couldn't handle. And since this may be something that only bothers me I felt the need to explain and show examples of exactly what bothered me. "Ha! Ha!" she giggled. "Ha! Ha!" he laughed. "Ahhhhh" he screamed. I have never seen "Ha! Ha!" written out or "Ahhhhh" in a book before. I am usually not very critical about books because as I see it the author was able to do something that I have not. Which is write a book and I have to admire that. But I just couldn't get past the dialogue in order to enjoy this book.

A young man of the future meets the woman of his dreams only to discover that she is ghost. While searching for her, he finds out she is responsible for several deaths and a man with a magic camera which can capture ghosts on a Polaroid has been hired to stop her. It becomes a race to see who can find Resurrection Mary first. The basic story is fun. The future setting is unique. But then there are the flaws. Pascal finds Ambrosia's family rather quickly despite the fact her family members are all female and they all still seem to have the last name despite the generations. She also bounces back and forth between being the great aunt and being several greats aunt. There is a doctor that helps Pascal get ghost finding equipment and practice on a ghost finding course but that doctor switches in and out of believing ghosts exist. Pascal gets surgical implants from the doctor and isn't told until afterwards that it is experimental. There is no paperwork, government guidelines or laws, and surprisingly no lawyers. I guess ethics are a thing of the past and companies no longer have to worry about being closed down. There is a ghost that died as a baby but is twelve years old. All the ghosts want and can kill living people but there are never any guidelines as to how or why. The mini bad guy knows enough about the camera and the big bad guy knows everything but still gets thwarted. For some reason the general public believes that the living family members are responsible for the ghosts' actions. Everyone is rich and everyone has a sports car. There are two gratuitous sex scenes. One is the opening scene to set up the ghost story (disturbing when it is revealed that they were teenagers) and one that introduces the mini bad guy that is just skanky. Neither set of participants involves major characters. I have no idea what the painting was for. I can't help but think if this had just been edited better to catch the inconsistencies, it would have been worth a lot more stars.
Welcome to the haunted town of Justice where there is seemingly no justice for its citizens from the hands of a paranormal terror...
...as a ghostly woman in a flowing dress kills again and again, hitchhiking in cars and killing teenage lovers.
The city of Justice has had enough and they hire a paranormal investigator named Kostas Chrysikos with a unique Graflex camera to track this ghost down and put an end to her, for the cursed Graflex camera is able to imprison its ghostly victims within its celluloid photographs. But Mr. Chrysikos will find that nabbing the deadly ghost will be as difficult as cuffing an apparition in shackles.

I am very sad to say that I couldn't finish this book. I really tried, but the writing was too erratic for me. The author has a nice way of describing the imagery, especially in the Jazz Club, but the dialogue leaves too much to be desired. It seems very forced, under-developed, and just not believable. It reminded me at times of reading an instant messaging conversation between middle school children. There was no transition between the somewhat descriptive prose and the juvenile dialogue, which immediately brought me out of the world, and sadly made it very easy to lose interest. By the third chapter, I had no idea what the book was about, or which characters to follow. I'm sure that the pieces fall into place as the book continues, but I found myself so frustrated with the characters and dialogue that I didn't even care to pursue them.
The Good: Photogeist has an interesting story to tell. A futuristic twist on the gothic ghost story. The Ghost attacks on the citizens of a small town are well written and captivating. The addition of a Paranormal Investigator that hunts down the Ghosts and traps them in photographs, with the use of a special camera, brings something new to the genre.
The Bad: The Book is just way too long. The second half drags. Just my opinion, but if the Author streamlined this novel and cut out about a 100 pages it would make for an easier and much more enjoyable read.
I truly enjoyed the concept of the story and did read it all the way through with trepidation. However, the writer does not write smoothly and I had trouble wanting to finish this one. I forced myself and am glad I did because this book has a lot of things you should not do inside it. Jumping around as well as verbiage were the two most prominent.
I received this book free via Goodreads giveaways .
This is a retelling of the disappearing female hitchhiker. I think the author told it well. It felt rushed at the end but otherwise it was a good story.
Won in a goodreads giveaway. Not a fan of this. The dialogue was stilted and strange and I couldn't ever figure out the timing of the book. It was a hard one for me to get through and I tend to like anything that leans to the paranormal.
