I enjoyed reading this very much and was moved to tears on Kyles's visits to see her mom, as my mother suffers from the same disease. The personalities of Amber and Kylee are fun and loving. Thank you Erik for writing these books on differences that can make us stronger
The Music of the Soul is still one of the best series written by Erik Schubach. I just wish they would finally finish Music of the Soul series in an audiobook format. Have been waiting for a long time and am still waiting.
This was so good. I wanted to read it, it seem like a nice story but I’m not much of a FF reader so I wasn’t expecting to liked it as much as I did. Amber and Kylee were so lovely. It might be part of a series but it worked perfectly as a stand-alone.
I listen to the audiobook. It had a nice steady pace. I loved the characters, they both were nice but Amber’s insecurities seem so relatable that she became my favorite. It wasn’t as if Kylee was so self-assure. She had issues too, but there was some charm in Amber that got my attention.
The plot was fine. It was a very enjoyable story. I also liked some of the secondary characters and how sweetly the romance was manage. Amber and Kylee were so adorable together, they made such a nice couple.
The narration had some ups and downs for me. There were times when I wasn’t sure which of them were talking, which made things a little confusing. But I did liked the way the narrator’s voice sound so happy at times, it was really easy to connect emotions based on the way the book was narrated.
Absolutely loved it! I started reading this book when I should've been sleeping. As with most Erik Schubach books, I continued reading until I reached the final page (in the wee hours of the morning). I seriously don't know where Erik Schubach gets his creativeness from but I love his work and look forward to the next book in the 'Music of the Soul' series!
I won an audio copy on this in a competition in a Facebook group, and as I never win anything, it was very exciting. I haven’t done audible before, and I downloaded an app and everything, it was all very high tech. I won the book after reading an interview with Erik, and I remember thinking he is writing for all the right reasons, but being dubious as to whether he would be able to write convincing queer women. I am pleased to say that he does a bang up job, and I did not question the characters or their motives once. The story skipped along nicely, never once leaving me bored, and the narrator did a great job differentiating all of the characters. I had to smile at how much of a concerted effort was made to diversify ALL of the characters, but I did think he did a great job reflecting all genders, sexualities and disabilities. There were typos and repeated words, which I noticed through the narration, but that didn’t grate me as much as they would have had I been reading it, as it is hard to turn off your editor head.
So, in short, I liked the concept, and the story as a bit of escapism. Not great literature but good entertainment, and for that and a decent narrator who deserves a nod for a good performance it gets eight out of ten, or four out of five.
I enjoyed Amber's love of music and how it helped her. I also enjoyed Kylee's love of filmmaking and determination to make her dreams come true. She was always working on ideas to make projects better even when they got rejected. At times it was emotional due to Kylee's mom's illness. All and all a good quick read with many of the characters that we have come to love.
Another fun story by Mr. Schubach. The formula in this one was a bit different as there is no misunderstanding driving a wedge between the characters that makes you want to reach out and slap the stupid out of the characters. The wedge was an outside force that was quickly overcome to bring about a sweet ending.
I so loved it! Definitely one of my favourites in the MOTS series. It brought laughter, tears (just a bit), and loads of fun. so yeah 5... There are minor typos and errors though..
I listened to the syncopated rhythm of her heart speeding up as I did. I noticed that the other night too and I find myself becoming addicted to it.
Finally, we have our Amber. I immediately liked Amber from Karaoke Queen, it's impossible not to be swooned by her. Learning Amber's story broke me, it taught me that everyone is fighting their own battles and sometimes no one can really help us, others could only just give us the little push we needed, but it's all up to us. I admire her, her strength, her compassion and her love. Kylee is also a wonderfuly-written character; with her love for her mother, a little heartbreaking to see a scenario like that, how she is disregarded at the office and how unfair she was being treated, these are everyday examples, and I love how she stood up for herself and pursued her dream. It was inspiring.
Wow. Kylie and Amber are my favorite couple in the MOTS world. Kylie is a character you would find being your best friend. She is fun and hilariously nerdy. The references to Dr. Who and gaming make her an amazingly ordinary character, but Erik doesn't do ordinary. He has made her extraordinary by the interplay with Amber. Amber is famous yet as down to earth, fun, and...damaged as the other characters in MOTS. The first meeting will have you laughing out loud and set the mood for the entire relationship. Kylie and Amber have their negative drama, but it doesn't detract from the mood or romance in the slightest. This is a feel good, happy romance that will steal your heart!
Love the deeper look at this character. Great read, some fun spots, some sad spots, Hits all those needed points. As in most of his books, our perceived flaws make us greater, stronger, and beautiful.
I really didn't like this, but I think it was more about me not understanding what it was going in. I was expecting a mature adult romance novel ala Harper Bliss or Melissa Brayden, but it ended up basically being a young adult novel (which is my least favorite genre by far).
