Delta Squad Alphas #1

My Captain's Baby

Rate this book
A secret omega. A protective alpha. An irresistible attraction.

Alpha Captain Zane Mayfield commands the special forces Delta Squad.

He’s wanted Specialist Aden Chandler since the man was assigned to his squad. The only issue is Aden is an alpha.

When an op goes sideways, Zane’s alpha instincts take over. All he cares about is keeping the snarky flirt of a sniper safe.
Specialist Aden Chandler lied about his omega status when he enlisted.

He has his dream job in the special forces and he’ll do what it takes to keep his dream alive, even if it means illegal suppressants and denying his need for his Captain.

But an op gone wrong changes everything and threatens to ruin both his and Captain Mayfield’s military career. Will Captain Mayfield choose duty over love? Or will Aden be proven once again that alphas can’t be trusted?
This non-shifter Mpreg romance is a standalone with no cliffhanger, but it is the first story of the Delta Squad Alphas trilogy. It features a friends-to-lovers story, steamy scenes, military action, pregnancy fun, snarky flirting, romantic interludes, and two hot men in uniform on a mission for their happily-ever-after.

I’m not sure why this book gets such low ratings. I mean if you like mpreg this is a pretty good book. I enjoyed it quite a lot. I’m coming to this for sure.

I wanted to like this book better than I did. I felt that the author skipped over all of the parts of potential growth for either character. How did Aden reconcile living as an omega after having spent 8 years hiding as an alpha? What kind of emotional turmoil did both Aden and Zane go through while waiting for their trial - not being able to work for two such active men had to have been hell.

Overall, while I liked both Zane and Aden's characters, I wanted to see growth, both separately and together as a couple. I wanted there to be some real conflict/need for each of them to truly choose to prioritize their relationship over everything else that life threw at them. Unfortunately, that just never happened.

Alpha Captain Zane Mayfield is the commander of the special Forces Delta Squad. His desire for Specialist Adam Chandler has only increased since he joined the squad. But Adam is an alpha. When an op goes wrong, Zane discovers that Adam is really an Omega and he has been using illegal suppressants. Adam has his dream job and he will do anything to keep it. It soon becomes evident that both their careers are on the line if Adam's deception comes out.

Love and ambition do amazing things to people. It causes them to conceal things and not follow all the rules. Zane and Adam find themselves at a crossroads and they have to do a few things they do not like. In the end thought it was their love for each other that helped. This one had a few twists to it that made it a bit different. I really enjoyed reading it.

Honestly, I don't know why I keep reading these Omegaverse books since they do always disappoint me. I don't understand either why the author wrote this book in first person when the chapters are so short and uneven in size. I liked the plot, it gave me a certain idea about the story, and the story was as I expected it to be, no major development, no twists, you read the plot and you don't need to read the story because everything is in the plot ... what gives me the feeling that I wasted my time. The intrigue was good but the way it's carried out is very poor, it sounds amateurish.

1 * star because of everything I said above.

Yes, the writing could be tightened up, but I can overlook that for debut. What impressed me was the story, which felt original and showed a perspective on an omegaverse that I haven't seen before, especially in how the omega was written as a man-who-can-get-pregnant rather than a woman-who-can-get-pregnant-temporarily-played-by-a-man. I'm looking forward to seeing where this author takes us in the future.

3 stars + 1 star for gay characters.

Story great -ish

Story wise it flowed and was kept me curious. The beginning had more Tell than Show, main issues are some minor plot holes and questions and the grammer. Reads more like a short story than a novel at times . I believe the plot holes could have been used for a good conflict for the protagonists.
If you want a romance with little to no drama or conflict this is the book.

Sweet read

Aden seemed like a very misguided young man at first but as I got to know him, I found out his past was still having a massive effect on him. Zane really had no idea who Aden was to him but that quickly changed. I find the whole male pregnancy interesting. Overall this was a quick, sweet story.

A good short story with a different perspective on things. Unique and well thought out. The wording could have been different in a few places, but overall enjoyable!

Okay book.

This book seemed very fast paced. I felt like I just started reading and it was already finished. And somehow, it didn't seem to be much of a story though.

PLEASE READ FIRST MY RATING SYSTEM!!!
To my ratings (thanks to amazon I had to change it again and 'upgrade' it a little bit. 5* is now 5,5* and my old 3* is now a 4*):

5,5* - very very good and rare (it would be a Blow-Away-book like 'Liberty' from Seth King,
'Save the kids' series
from EM Leya or 'Jesse's Smile' from Angelique Jurd), it's like an A+
5* - very good and will be often reread and is a WOW-book with interesting plot and surprises
(like most of Andrew Grey books), it's like an A
4,5* - it's the place between I really like it and I love it, it's like an A-
4* - a really good book, which will be reread a few times (most romances where you can enjoy
for relaxing and during waiting times in hospitals). I can recommend them definitively!
It's like an A-B
3* - it could be more then a one-time-reader, but not really an often reread book
2* - it was ok to read, but it's more a one-time-reader (i wouldn't recommend it heartly, but
it was ok) It's like a C-, D
1* - sorry, but that isn't really a book for me (too many mistakes, not nice plot, unlogical,
NO-GO). It's like failure in the whole line, dismissed, repeat the class

This book was simple, cliche, however, I love a good cliche book. This book had the potential to be something amazing if the conflict had gone into depth and the characters were developed gradually. In reality, it would take time to fall in love with someone so quick. Even though the whole 'fated mates' phenomenon was added. I've read many books where even though they were fated mates, they still took the time to know each other and there was a conflict in the characters getting together. Either within themselves/someone/something from blocking the relationship from happening. It drives quite an interesting story. But in this story, it was trying to do that but ultimately failed. There was a missed potential in providing the readers with action scenes and more information on the
suppressants. Would have loved to read about it. I disliked how after getting pregnant, the omega was ready give up all he's worked for which naturally strips the character of any ambitions and admirations, making it disappointing. Overall, the book's plot needed more development between characters and plot.

I liked this well enough. It could use a little more depth and I feel like more resistance should have been put up during the heat scene. I felt like Aden broke under his heart and Zane didn't hesitate to knot him even after he had already said that he didn't want it.
