Granny Strikes Back

I hadn't read any of Lin's Granny series, so I thought I would give them a try. Now that I am a senior, I can relate to some of her elderly comments. It seems that when she is in the middle of an action scene, part of her old body acts up. But she Rambos through it! Fun characters and action. I like that the main character is older. I would call this a cozy thriller!

This is such a fun, entertaining series, this book does not disappoint. The story is interesting, and the mystery well plotted. I was kept guessing until the reveal. I look forward to reading more in this series.

These books are quick and fun. Granny is out on a first date with Octavian and trouble hits even before the date starts. Makes you wonder what mayhem is about to befall this allegedly retired ex-CIA agent Granny. Octavian goes to a new gambling house., the last one being shut down by Granny, and whoa and behold, the executioner shows up and it appears it’s a front for illegal activities. Granny has to put a stop to it do the guns come out blazing.

Between getting caught drunk driving (totally not her fault) and having to be rescued by her nemesis the Chief ( of all the incompetent rescues), to kidnappings, submarines, CIA rouge agents, what’s a Granny in retirement to do? We’ll grab her gun, hobble after the bad guys (not run, definitely no running) and take them out.

Quiet retired CIA agent granny Barbara is getting ready for her date with her new beau Octavia when someone tries to kill her. She easily fights him off and takes care of that! Now, she needs to find out who wants her dead before her family gets back from vacation, and she is on the case again! These novellas are fun and thrilling, and I love granny! She is full of fun, humor, and excitement, and did I mention she's got some fantastic moves! Great series.

I am loving this funny mystery series. Barbara is a retired CIA agent that CANNOT mind her own business. I guess the CIA gets in your blood and doesn’t leave? She makes me chuckle with her antics as she works to solve murders in her hometown. Pretty sure that they may quickly be becoming the murder capital of the world however, I will look past this and continue to chuckle.

This is the third book in the Secret Agent Granny series & I must say, it’s definitely my favorite one, by far! In Granny Strikes Back, we’re taken on yet another fun & exciting adventure. As we continue to follow retired CIA agent, Barbara Gold, she can’t help but get herself caught up in trying to solve these small town murders in her new home, Cheerville.

As always, Barbara knows how to have a good time & definitely knows how to solve a crime! This one had me literally laughing out loud. I mean, literally. The humor was full force & I couldn’t keep myself from giggling while listening. The characters Harper Lin created for this story were all awesome & hilarious. I loved them all, even the villains, like Pierre!

I will absolutely be continuing the series, as always... & I’ve actually already started listening to book four! Secret Agent Granny is one of my new favorite characters. I love following her around Cheerville & I’m looking forward to the excitement she’ll stir up in the next book!

Another great addition to the Secret Agent Granny series! This book finds Barbara Gold (Secret Agent Granny) getting herself ready for a date, when a man breaks into her home and makes an attempt on her life. When this man makes his escape, Barbara must investigate the who and why. I really enjoyed this story as it was action-packed from beginning to end! I highly recommend this entire fun series! The granny series has delivered another wonderful mystery full of clues, mischief and comedy. These stories have kept me engaged in their witty story lines and I’ve enjoyed the twists that pop up. I would highly recommend these light tales of mystery.

Where do ex-CIA agents go after they retire? What do they do? Are they through with the excitement? Are they over crime fighting? Well if Barbara Gold is any indication the answers are: go live near their family; normal "old people" activities only with their eyes wide open looking for crimes; they say they are through with all that excitement; and finally, their bodies may say they are over crime fighting, but their minds never do. Let's look at Barbara. In the 70 age range and in good health, she has recently come to the realization that all those years of hiding by squatting behind some rock in the desert have caught up with her knees. She notices she can't run as fast as she used to or move as easily as when she was younger while chasing after a criminal who has broken in her house. She also has to use her glasses to see if she can identify someone or even read fine print. But her mind! Her mind knows all the tricks to avoid trouble and the ways to take someone down. She can still assess the risk in seconds and come up with a plan almost as fast (well usually.) One thing for sure, she hasn't forgotten the art of negotiation when she goes in to talk to police chief Grimal. And surprisingly, because it has been over 40 years, she hasn't forgotten how to handle a first date.

When Barbara, undercover, tries to take down yet another gambling operation in a nearby city, she is unhappily surprised to find her new infatuation there, and see him get removed to the gang's back room. Now she has to shut down the operations, capture the Exterminator, and rescue Oliver, her newest love interest. What happens next involves kidnapping of the couple and a convoluted escape plot by the criminal gang. Barbara's undercover character is hilarious and what's more, she catches the eye of one of the young gang members. It makes for some interesting repartee.

This is a fun book, and although slightly predictable, there is a funny little twist I couldn't figure out. Makes you wish you had been an undercover agent when you were young so your more mature years could be a little more exciting!

Barbara maakt zich klaar in de badkamer voor haar eerste echte date met de knappe Octavian. Als ze een tocht voelt, staan haar zintuigen onmiddellijk op scherp. Ze ontdekt een indringer in haar huis en kan nog net op tijd ontkomen voor hij haar kan omleggen. Wie is deze man? Waarom wil hij haar dood hebben? Zou het iets met de laatste twee moorden te maken hebben? Of is het toch verbonden met de CIA?

Dit derde en laatste deel van de serie is ook wel de klapper op de vuurpijl. Zoals ze zeggen, Going out with a bang! Alles word uit de kast getrokken. Barbara gaat undercover, verkleed als een gokker die te diep in het glaasje heeft gekeken. Ze plaatst afluister apparatuur, ze huurt een mooie sport bolide, en komt zelfs in de cel terecht. Het lijkt misschien een beetje too much, maar dat maakt het verhaal zo heerlijk om naar te luisteren. Je schiet van de ene in de volgende actie. En toch zit er door die spanning ook nog humor verwerkt.

Deze serie heb ik het audioboek geluisterd, alle drie de delen zijn ingesproken door Pamela Teves. Ze zet een geweldige Barbara Gold neer. Je kunt lekker onderuit zakken of het huishouden doen of sporten terwijl je geniet van de heerlijke cosy-crime serie die voor je ogen afspeelt. Het heeft spanning, humor, scenes die je met een korreltje zout kan nemen, maar het is goed neergezet en heel vermakelijk.

Voor liefhebbers van cosy-crime is het zeker een aanrader. Geniet van de avonturen met de nodige humor en moord.

This is the third book in the Secret Agent Granny series. I am always excited when I receive a new book from Harper. They are just the right amount of fun, excitement, mystery and this one had some surprising twists and turns along the way in the course of the investigation.

Our senior heroine, Barbara Gold, gets drawn into a mystery investigation after someone tries to assassinate her in her own home. This starts the search for the reason why and who wants her dead. As she delves into the search for answers she gets drawn into a much worse criminal activity than she was originally investigating. Along the way she has to protect her new love interest Octavian from the criminals and keep herself alive while also trying to solve the mystery.

This story holds your interest from start to end.

Retired CIA agent Barbara Gold is working undercover to locate the organization responsible for the private clubs open in the area that are really illegal gambling clubs. But she thinks her cover has been blown when a man breaks into her house and tries to kill her. She escapes but is sure he will return. We are given many twists and turns before we find out all the truths about the assassin and the gambling organization. Recommended for a cozy read. I was provided an ARC for an honest review.

Now that she's fought him off, she needs to figure out who it was and why he's after her. But can she figure it out before her family returns from vacation? As she investigates the gambling club, she finds her love interest involved and they get kidnapped. Can they escape in time and put a stop to this? An excellent story to keep you hooked!

This is a great series! A fun read with some twist and turns. Granny is at it again! Within the first few pages the excitement begins. Filled with suspense and humor. Barbara has decided to start dating again. Senior dating should be an easy thing. Not when you are a retired CIA agent. Look out Octavain, things are about to get exciting. You will enjoy Barbara and Octavina's adventures. Can be read as a stand alone. But, you will want to read about all of Barbara's exciting adventures. I'm really enjoying this series. Barbara Gold has many of the same aches and pains as I do. And I really understand her anxiety regarding dealing with her son, daughter-in law, and especially her grandson. Add dipping her foot in the Dating pool, and everything gets more complicated. But who sent the assasin to her home and why now? Barbara is figuring out over dinner. Working on a case keeps her calm. Funny series cast of characters as well as a little mystery on the side. Good reading for an afternoon. Reading series in order will increase enjoyment.

This is the best book yet. Barbara needed to use all her skills in this story. It started out with a bang or a murder attempt, as she gets ready for her first date since her husband died. Now she has to figure out who wants her dead and why.
This book was awesome. It was fast paces and suspenseful. You don't want to miss this one.

I just love this series so much. "Granny Strikes Back" is the third entry in this delightful series and it just keeps getting better and better. This is nonstop entertainment and I can say with absolute conviction that, if I'm ever in a pickle, I definitely want this "little old lady" on my side. Mrs. Pollifax has nothing on her. And neither do any of the criminals. Give yourself a lift and read this book today.

Barbara Gold is just perfect! She is a former CIA agent that is trying hard to live a nice calm life in retirement. She has met a man she is a bit attracted to and goes on a date with him. From there things get kind of adventuresome for the duo. Once it got to this point, I could not stop until I was finished. I won't spoil it for you, but I will tell you it will be fun, unexpected and a tad outrageous. Wonderful fun!

I absolutely love this series. Once I start a book in it I can't put it down. Barbara Gold - grandma, senior citizen, widow and former CIA secret agent - thinks everything has finally calmed down in suburbia until an assassin tries to take her out as she is getting ready for a date. Now it is up to Barbara to go under cover and catch this assassin and, more importantly, find out why he's after her in the first place.
