Remember me. Ten letters. Four syllables. Two words. Two of the most powerful words of Cate’s life. She read them the first time she had her heart broken, heard them when she lost her husband, and now they stared back at her as her daughter moved away for the first time. Yes, each time these two little words crossed her path, her life changed course. That was why when Cate spoke them to herself, about herself, she knew great things were about to happen. She was going to remember who she was and go back to being that strong, intelligent, determined, and fun—yes, fun—woman she once was.
Levi loved Cate from the moment they met. They had been inseparable, and if he'd had his way, they would have remained that way. Being taken from her before they ever had a chance to explore their feelings was the one regret in his life, one he planned to rectify the moment her daughter's name crossed his desk. He had no idea they were so close... yet still so far. If fate wanted to grant him another chance, though, who was he to argue?
Remember Me is an 18,000 word contemporary BBW second-chance romance.
Cate lost her husband/fiance/boyfriend at the young age of 20 and on that fateful night also found out they were having a baby. For almost 20 years after that, her life was devoted to her daughter, Jamie. Cate didn't want a childhood for Jamie, like she experienced with her own mother when her father left. She didn't want to sully the image of James, her late husband/fiance/boyfriend, because he was a good man and she wanted Jamie to grow up knowing that. But now that Jamie had left for college and is living on her own, Cate was given a chance to pursue what she wanted to do back then before the accident, art. And along the way of remembering her former self, her first love appeared.
I know, not the best description and most of it was shared via the blurb. The truth and nothing but the truth, I cringed while reading this especially the part where Levi was present. This is an example of a novella that will work better as a novel. The reader was given a strong MC in Cate. She wasn't pursuing love, she was pursuing herself, the one she left behind for the sake of her daughter. But hey, if love was thrown in, it's like killing two birds with one stone, so why not.
So, EC was juggling with these and trying to make it work. But because it was a novella, everything was crammed in a small space making it a bit unbelievable, thus the cringe part. It's not just Cate having a whiplash, it was me as well. And while reading it, the question I had was, why he never look for her? I just couldn't grab when a person was told to be this filthy rich but never use that amount of money to look for someone they said important to them. If he did, wouldn't it save more time. It's not like she's engaged with anyone. James died in their early 20's. Wait, was that a spoiler? I was waiting for EC to throw in an excuse for Levi, but never did.
Overall, it was a fun sweet read. And Cate will be on my list of best female MC. Jamie character was done pretty good too. She's bubbly in not the annoying way. And James, he was mentioned in few words by Cate, but the way it was written, it's like he was a saint. In fact, all the characters in this novella were awesome. Okay, maybe not for Levi because the only thing I got for him was, hawt hawt hawt.
