Fear. Deception. Poverty. Death. Bruce Wayne tells the story about four generations of the Johnson family who find themselves trapped by the consequences of their bad financial decisions. Will a husband's desperate act lead them out of the Vicious Cycle?
This book reminds me of the books I used to read when I was in my late teens and early twenties. Books written by one of my all-time favorite authors back then: Donald Goines. Donald Goines was a young black man from Detroit. He was also a gifted writer, and he effectively wrote about what he knew best: hustling, thievery, crime, and prison. I enjoyed his books because, through his storytelling, he informed on the "why" I didn't want to have my young life side-tracked by crime and especially not prison. His prison tales were (and remain to this day) the most graphic, gut-wrenching episodes I had ever read. This book, "The Vicious Cycle." provides the same "why" I should want to live within my means, as well as be conscious of the pitfalls along the way. The story is dramatized a bit, it's also very realistic and relatable. Now that I have finished the book, I will pass it to my young son. And although he will roll his eyes about the dialogue, I believe he, too, will grasp the "why" as well. Afterwards, we can move onto the "how."
