Monica was done with hectic life in New York. Leaving to practice medicine at a tiny hospital in Shandaken would surely be the change she needed. Moving into her new house, fate knocked in the form of a tall, athletic man, bleeding to death and needing a doctor.
Raul was a rule breaker - constantly fighting with his pack and disobeying his alpha. With his life on the line after a battle, he crawled to the first house he saw. Socializing with humans was forbidden but he would never have guessed the girl who saved him to be the embodiment of beauty and kindness.
Content Warning: Explicit love scenes, and piles of sexy shifters. Intended for mature audiences only. Also includes a 5 book bonus box set (Dragons of Umora).
Sarah J. Stone brings you the best of paranormal romance. Get ready for thrilling, hot, adventures with happily ever after endings and no cliffhangers.
This could have been better. It started really good which is why 3** but then half way it just went sideways. Like the author was driving on the wrong side of the road, hitting babies.
This book is not really about wolf shifters, I mean Raul is a shifter but a witch gets involved, a confusing story about a grandpa and prophecies were made 300 years ago that kept coming true. But the thing that bothered me most was the heroine towards the end. She bugged me and totally ruined everything. Her reasoning for why she did what she did was stupid. We also get no epilogue so who knows if they really made it.
I was very excited to see a new series by this author. I was a little disappointed by this story. It felt rushed and forced. I know it is hard to write about wolf shifters in a new way, there are so many books out there. This one didn't seem to quite pull it off, though some of the plot was unique.
Monica has moved to a new town to escape her train wreck of a life in New York City. She has found a new job in the Catskill so that she is close to friends and family, but not too close. As a doctor she can work pretty much anywhere she wants and this seems to be a good fit.
Raul is a member of a small wolf pack in a nearby town. He and his siblings have grown up in the area and have a small business. His pack forbids relationships with humans, though no one is really sure why this policy was instituted. It has never really bothered Raul, until he meets Monica. Well, maybe meets is not the right word. He almost bleeds to death on her front porch. Naked.
Wolves, a witch, an unsavory pack Alpha, a prophecy. This book has it all. Unfortunately it did not come together as well as it could have. I will read the next book and see if a second story will help to fill out the rough edges.
Sarah J. Stone has brought us a new series that is just as enticing as all her other wonderful books! This is a fabulous new twist on wolves, witches and humans interacting. So much excitement, turmoil, attraction, love, friendship, family, loyalty, and some good old fashioned hot sex! Love the new characters and am so looking forward to the next books in the series. Can't wait to see where this author takes us all on this new journey!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
This was an okay shifter book about a wolf shifter and a human doctor running away from a bad relationship. Monnica was a good character, she was hella flighty near the end of this book for no apparent reason, but besides that I liked her. Raul was pretty kind and he had a surprisingly open mind when it came to shifter politics. I was very surprised that the amount of misogyny was pretty limited in this one. It could be that we didn't see it as much since Monnica was protected since she's a fragile human and not a she-wolf.
Loved this beginning to a new series by Sarah J. Stone !! Monica and Raul are meant for each other but their different species don't think so and will kill them both if they break the rules. One of the better shifter books I've read lately !! 4⭐'s I received a gifted copy and am voluntarily choosing to leave an honest and unbiased review.
This is a story about Monica and Raul. They are both a bit hesitant when it comes to being in love and a relationship. Monica has every right since she is a recent divorced woman who it seems as though she has been abused. Raul on the other hand comes from a family that makes him doubt all the thoughts that he had about humans for a long time.
When they first meet it is not a fairy tale. They do not fall madly, deeply in love with one another however there is a connect of the bat. I did like the fact that they did not have sex at their first meeting as most short paranormal books tend to do. I do like the fact that there was a connection forming before sex was involved.
The overall story was not a horrible one. All of the hero and heroine's fears were valid and the way that they went about reacting to them were as well. I have to admit that Monica was a lot stronger then she gave herself credit for. She was not afraid to go after what she wanted however she did falter near the end. I am glad it was near the end and the hero was not trying to convince and coddle her. I am glad that Monica came around on her own and realized that Raul is the one and fear will get her nowhere.
I am excited about continuing this series. I have to admit that Sarah J. Stone is someone who is hit or miss for me and this one I am optimistic about.
This was a very good starter for a first book. Although the characters start out one-dimensional, the author takes the time to develop the main characters by the end of the book. The story was suspenseful in part, but it felt like the she wrote the witch in save the day. Although the witch did have a good back story, and helped to explain Paxton's Pack for their unreasonable human rule. The heroine after going through everything to keep her wolf, suddenly leaves him because she feels overwhelmed. This makes her weak in my eyes. I would say the heck with prophecy, this is my life and I will make it what I want it to be. If I was overwhelmed, my note would have read: Gone for a walk, be back in a few hours, need some time to myself, Love you, see you later today. I would then have gone back to my house, cried my eyes out, straighten myself out and gone back to my wolf.
I voluntarily reviewed and advanced reader copy and this is my honest review.
I liked the idea of this story but I don’t think it was executed properly. Things just happened to fast with out time for me to really process. One page they can’t be together and the next they are talking about how they are a couple...... it really made my head spin trying to keep up.
I did like the fact that Monica took the whole shifter thing easily and there wasn’t a lot of her being freaked out. Raul was also a great character and easy to swoon for. The plot, like I mentioned, had a lot of promise when it came to pack politics. I’m not sure I will read other books on this series, but I won’t say never. 2.5/3 stars because even though The execution wasn’t done in a fashion that I liked, I did like the characters and plot. #2OCCJD
Paranormal is outside my comfort zone, so to dip my toes in I wanted to try one that didn't sound too wild and "out there" and was short-ish. I found this in Audible Escape while I was browsing. Thought it sounded ok, and it the length of just over 4 hours sounded perfect. It ended up being a good choice! The narrator was new to key, but he did a great job...I'll be keeping an eye (ear?) out for more of his work in the future. The story itself was good, though it felt a bit rushed at times but I selected a 4 hour book, so I did kind of expect that. I liked Raul and Monica, and liked the non wolf parts of the story best, but that's not surprising either coming from a non experienced shifter reader. Overall I enjoyed it!
Yes I knew when I rented this book that there was bonus books...but if you have had the pleasure of reading any of Miss Stones books they are the same bonus books included in any of her books...
Newly discovered doctor Monica Mills... Has done it she left New York to find herself in the small town of Shandaken... 130 miles from New York she thought she went far enough to do just that... But what she finds will open here eyes to a love like no other...
I enjoyed this book... Looking forward to reading the rest of the series....I recommend this book to anyone that enjoys wolf shifter books... It will not disappoint you...
It was an ok romance and maybe if I read it in one go I'd have a better review but I started it so long ago that this review is just basic. The romance was good and all but the witch and prophecy thing was just too much stuff that i didn't need. I mean they already had a dick alpha to deal with tangled with the fact that she was human. So couldn't that be the main issue? I get leaving because this whole situation is bizarre but leaving because you couldn't have kids - like really? in this day and age?

In this well written self-contained story you have a female Doctor who just got divorced and moved to a new town. A naked injured man end up on he door step. With her friend help they get him inside and the doc patches him up. But in this world of shifters packs are small. Mating with a human is forbidden. Entertaining story to read with lots of action.
A Wolf's Heart by Sarah J. Stone is a good book. This is an enjoyable book about a female Doctor and the wolf shifter that she saves from bleeding to death. I liked Monica and Raul. I thought they made a very sexy couple. With shifters, witches, a forbidden attraction and a bit of a mystery are sure to keep you entertained. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book.
Very intriguing, very well written and very enjoyable. I have enjoyed the 5 book series together so you didn't have to wait for the rest of the series, I do hope their is more to come slightly different to what I have read before and I look forward for more of this series...
Raul and Monica are great together. Glad that Kate helped Monica come to her senses before she threw away the best thing going for her. Ok so although I did enjoy the story. I don't care for all of the extras packed into it. The only stories I actually bothered with were the actual story and the tease of the second book in the series.
I wasn't expecting great literature, nor wanting it, but there was absolutely no character development, reasoning behind any part of the "plot" (to use the term loosely). the random actions by the characters was giving me whiplash as there was never any really warning as to why or what was coming next. At least it counts towards my books read for the year.
The wolf story was good,an easy read. Just interesting but not fantastic. But the dragon stories that were the rest of the book were way better and very fascinating! I really liked them but they weren't even mentioned to start with? Too confusing!
Fair warning that this book ended at 11% I’m not sure how many books came after it because I did not read them. This story was all over the place and did not flow well. Good idea for a story but not a great delivery.
I got in to this book but realized that only 10% of the book is the actual story the title is based on. I tried to read the rest of the stories but mostly skimmed because they didnt really hold my attention
This is a well written, fast-paced story, with a slight twist. Wolves, witches, and humans don't mix...or do they? Bonus stories are included. I am on to book two!
It started out as a good read. Monica annoyed me with her flip flopping. And when they introduced the witch and the prophecy at the end, I kind of gave up a little. I did like Raul & his bros.
