Rate this book
THE DEERWHERE AWAKENING is a debut Science Fiction novel by J.W. Capek. Exploring the possibilities of being human, across three genders and beyond THE DEERWHERE AWAKENING is a timely story for our present. Deerwhere is the culmination of humanity's search for Utopia. After centuries of wars, overpopulation, political disruption, and global pandemics, there followed a New Confederation of of work, of service to others, and of recreation. Together in Deerwhere, survivors were male, female, and uniale. The colony quarantine kept three genders safe. Uniales embody all the maleness and femaleness of the human genome. With epigenetics, they have the best qualities of both sexes and all the races. They bring new pronouns to language. The Confederation Bureau of Standards set 'Nhe for he and she, 'Nes' to go with his and her, and 'Nem' will be used with him and her. 'They' and 'Them' can stand as plurals. Immune to the Pandemic Sweating Disease by nature, cloned by designs, the uniale genetic sequence contained the messages from both sexes. Humanities of the world were astounded as a concept of ancient mythology and fantasy became the solution to chaos on earth, the uniale. Mathematical excellence parlayed strands of DNA into uniale life. The genetic sexual spectrum was coaxed to needed priorities for the 24th Century. Holograms in a laboratory delighted and entertained the minds of intellectual elites. Only a few even considered the consequences of their exercises in human development. The rest were too exhilarated by their results. Noral is the uniale wifand of nes family unit, a trio of adults. Their idyllic lives in Deerwhere have all needs addressed by the Keeper, the Deerwhere Quantum Computer. All needs, but one. When Noral is confronted with the Confederation's Third Option, nhe can no longer tolerate the dictates of a 'perfect society.' Noral, nes friend Kalen, and Deerwhere uniales test their own loyalty towards the culture that is a culture they must define for themselves.
