There's more than one way to have a threesome. Three by Three features three very different threeways.
Assimilated: Callie didn’t intend to answer an online ad from two young men looking for a woman to share, but she did. Pax and Braylin couldn’t possibly want someone like her, average looking and past her prime, but they do. A threesome was only a fantasy, never meant to really happen. But it does.
The New Guy: Now that Elliott has finally admitted he’s gay, his roommate Mike is going to make sure he gets what he’s been longing for. That’s why he brought Gannon home. It’s not at all because he wants Gannon for himself.
Fixation: Tia’s feeling very Cinderella since giving up on her art career and moving across the country. Then Grant and Jeremy invite her to the ball. Then Grant and Jeremy invite her to their bed. But can Grant really share Jeremy with a woman? And what if Tia can’t resist the lure of Grant’s fixation?
Bonus Quickie: Dmitry and Adam are best friends, and if weren’t for Dmitry’s girlfriend, Sara, they’d never be anything more. But Sara has something more than a burning need to watch her boyfriend and his best friend together—she has a plan.
Approximately 36,000 words. Features explicit sex, including male-female and male-male pairings.
Tanya writes in a variety of romantic and erotic genres, being an avid follower of many of these genres herself. Some of her favorites are M/M romance, MFM threesomes, and BDSM with male submissives.
Tanya lives in New England with her boyfriend and her cat and has participated in many of the activities about which she writes, but not all of them. It's left to the reader to decide which are which.
I think it's funny that the book title has 4 variations/uses of the word "three" because there are actually 4 stories in this book. (I can't be the only one that interpreted the title to mean there were 3 stories.)
Below are my update comments, posted here as part of the review because I don't have all that much to add.
Assimilated: 4.2 Stars MFM (straight) menage is not usually my cuppa - and in this case the sex scenes were pretty much par for the course. BUT OMFG the way the author set up the scenario, how she painted the FMC. I'm just...I'm impressed, honestly.
The desire for a menage, the yearning, the regrets, the fear, the excitement, the worry, the whole build-up to the meet-n-greet with those 2 guys was just PHENOMENAL. And immensely relatable.
The New Guy: 3.5 Stars Hmmm. Okay, the story with the 3 guys was more PWP. Hot enough, but nothing at all like the previous one. In some ways it read like a male-gaze fantasy with the dirty sheets & greedy sex...if it weren't for Elliot pining for his friend Mike, that is.
Fixation: 4.0 Stars Okay, this MMF story was interesting. Brutal, honest...a little sad & pathetic.
I didn't care much for the FMC's attitude (snotty, elitist, judgmental) but no one really deserves to be the pawn in some weird power-based relationship game (?) when they're just looking for an escape...or to belong, to be wanted.
Of course, that bit where Grant shoots her down for being greedy? That's the brutally honest part.
Demi-Love: 3.8 Stars Okay, that one was hot with the girlfriend directing the action between her guy and his best friend. But it really was just PWP. Additional Note - Although I intensely disliked how the two guys both called each other "Demi" (as nicknames), I can appreciate how it ties into the individual story title. Because I think their attraction to each other is because of their friendship, how close they are, how much they care for each other. Nice touch.
Considering I really am not at all a fan of MFM - with little to no Male MC sexual contact or interaction - I find it quite interesting that the BEST story in this collection (IMHO) is the MFM one.
This is my second Tanya Chris book this month (by accident, this one was free so I thought, "Why Not?") and I'm definitely looking to read more of her work in the future.
High quality writing style, and same about the handling of fantasies and themes in it. But since I didn't enjoy reading this one very much, my rating is a reflection my personal taste rather than any objective quality of the book.
Review based on a free copy. This story needs to reach it's audience. That would be readers who like gay or bi male erotica. By not stating this those looking for this can't find this book. I myself read for enlightenment, and sometimes my blood gets pumping and my heart rate climbs. When I review I try not to let my likes or dislikes color the review. That said gay and bi male stories do nothing for me, doesn't turn me on and doesn't turn me off. As a straight male it's kinda like reading 20 pgs of a history book.
So the first story builds really well, I feel this is good for the shortness of the story and the Bi character isn't a big deal. So if you're looking for that you might find it lacking. Of the stories I found this the most thought out.
The rest of the stories are well written, but with varying degrees of plot. Where the first dwells on the thinking of a middle aged female and the stress of considering a threesome, The others are from a M on M point of view and how that would come about without hurt feelings. All stories cover the things that could go wrong and trying to make it just right. Thought was put into the plot points that brought about the threesomes and for short stories there was a little character development. All in all good stories and even though I didn't find myself feeling immersed in the story line, I feel someone turned on by men with men might really enjoy it. It's enough for me to check out more by this author when it cross my path again.
I dunno why I thought this was "only" 3 stories so it was nice that there were four. Erotica but not stark, exactly, some elements of HFN I think or hints of it ... so that was nice.
The first was interesting - for each of the stories I would've loved MORE so I think that's a definite positive note
I'd love to see more like this from Tanya Chris
Assimilated - I loved that the [heroine?] was older ... (although I thought the dudes were IN their 20s, not actually 20?]
The New Guy is just ... a total story of fun fucking - good times
Fixation was really interesting - definitely "just" an interlude - but I loved that ONE moment between Grant and Tia ... and also somehow I loved how growly and dismissive Grant was ... not OF/to Tia exactly ... but ... I liked that it wasn't shoe-horning in a threesome "to last"
Demi-Love => yo. This ... I don't even know where this one was going, exactly but ... I kinda loved letting the guys have their moment
😅 I did low key get this ~book mixed up with another one though. OOPS.
I don't usually read romances that involve women anymore. But these were all spectacular. Definitely fantatasy material. I would definitely love to take the places of the girl in almost any of those stories.
Demi-Love was my favorite. Fixation my least favorite.
Tanya Chris is definitely my go to favorite for romance. Her writing is perfection. Leaves me panting every time and I don't get distracted from the action by terrible writing skills.
One thing that tickled at the back of my mind though was that the title of the collection didn't seem accurate.
I don't love collections of short stories because it always feel like things are incomplete and something is missing. But I actually enjoyed these stories. I liked how with each one you got why all the characters were participating in the threesomes. They weren't anonymous body parts rubbing toghether. Each story was surprisingly fleshed out where everyone in the threesome had a purpose, a backstory, and a reason for being there.
"Three By Three" is the first book I've read by author Chris. Very enjoyable! Very easy to get into! Very quick to make me wish for more! I look forward to more Threesomes, Three Ways, like FMF or FFF or MMF ... there are so many possibilities, and Chris shows an amazing ability to keep it coming fresh and entertainingly. Bravo x 3!
Amazon is not offering this book and Scribd doesn’t have it either, nor any of the usual places. I don’t even see it listed at author’s website, tanyachris.com. They mention they were contemplating not writing mm romance anymore. I hope they reconsider. Thank you for any help in finding this book! ✌️😘
Wickedly delicious, these four three some stories certainly steam things up. While I enjoyed all four, Assimilated was my favorite. It hit all my fantasy buttons. It would make a great standalone if it was expanded.
Nice to see a woman who obviously knows what both side is like.Been in there comes myself many times and always enjoyed the people I was with. All the stories we great and HOT
Fun, sexy erotica with m/m/f, m/m/m and m/f/m groupings. Really enjoyed 3 of the 4 stories. The one I didn’t like (Fixation) had some casual body shaming and general snobbery that took me out of the story.
