Lysander Blacknail invested forty hard years of his life in service to the boar god, Tuatha, but in Lysander's greatest act of service to his god, he is betrayed. He finds himself in the body of a slime, inheriting odd abilities and an overwhelming circumstance. His only drive for survival is revenge. As a slime, the weakest monster in the world, he must discover a way to gain enough power and get his humanity back. (A GameLit story)
So this was an interesting book. A God totally plays out a guy and then steals his body while trapping him into a slime's body. Then said named guy starts working his way from slime to God. Now the book is not that simple, the man does have many trials and tribulations that he( it?) has to overcome while trying to get his body back. The overall story was....alright. I can say that I prob wont be getting any more of this series. It's not bad, but it's just not my cup of tea.
I really enjoyed reading this story. It is similar, in some ways, to core stories I’ve read, but the protagonist becomes a slime and not a dungeon core.
There are elements and hints of a ‘game’ like system, but this world is not a game and the system like updates we do see are few and far between; at times Lysander notes he received system messages and that he brushes them away, as there are more important matters at the time (e.g. surviving).
I also like that there is minimal swearing, the protagonist is actually older (60s) before everything happens and so does not freak out too much, and while he gains in power, he is not overpowered; in fact, there are several times he barely survives and sometimes only due to external aid.
Absolutely loved the characters and concepts introduced in the book. The system in place to encourage expansion and conflict for the protagonist is relatively unique in the genre, grasping an interesting idea.
Rules and features are depicted in depth and spread nicely throughout the adventure, massively enhanced by the excelent explainations that tie them into the novels world. In stark comparison to all too many previous Monster RPG novels, the solid, meaningful, and imaginative influence/ “leveling” system is a glory to behold.
The characters are interesting and imaginative, their backstory and development kept me engaged and guessing.
I binge read this book and enjoyed every minute of it, I truely wish for a sequel
Heh, very cool story here. Unique point of view in this one, and I like it. If there's more in this series, I'm all for reading them. If you're a fan of LitRPG or Gamelit, then you definitely want to read this one. It's not often you get to see things develop from the monster's view, and the weakest monster in the game even, what could be cooler? I've always enjoyed games and books where you need to build up from scratch, and that's exactly what was thrown into this story, and it's very well done, and extremely enjoyable to boot. Can't say I'm much for the tactics used (especially towards the end), but it accomplishes the goal, so I guess it's all well.
I borrowed this book from Amazon because reading the blurb led me to believe that it was a twist on LitRPG. I am one third of the way through, and I am deleting it as almost unreadable. My single piece of advice to the advanced reader (That is: Anyone who can spell) is:- Don't bother picking this book. My single piece of advice to the author is: Withdraw this book and re-edit the lot. This time use a grammar checker. That ought to remove the idiocy or reading about a cat drinking out of its bowel - the point at which I gave up.
Reading this book is like looking at a block of fine wood before a woodworker starts in on it. There is potential and the great possibility of beauty, but it's only a block of wood in the end. I'd love to see a version of this world that has that extra polish and shaping.
I enjoyed the premise of this story. The narrative was relatively smooth. The characters were not fully fleshed out and stayed secondary to the main character. The biggest problem is with the lack of editing. I am not sure if this is a translation from another language, but there were a lot of grammatical errors that made caused bumps while reading.
A good book and an interesting concept. The world is interesting, mysterious, and fleshed out just enough to make sense with more being revealed slowly. There are some editing issues but the author acknowledges those in the foreword. This is meant to be a fun quick read and it is.
I really enjoyed this story, to the point I was somewhat sad when I realized it was almost over. The writing style reminds me a lot of Patrick Rothfuss, but less depressing. I really hope book 2 comes out soon!
A changed into a monster story(a Slime, like the title says). A interesting story that is in two parts. Leveling up in the home territory and traveling on a quest to save a friend. Interested in the next book.
Unique LitRPG with the story from the point of the lowest monster, but very slow and boring. I actually didn't like any of the characters and the powers that were received were weird. DNF 85% and won't read the sequel which I own.
It was sometimes hard to focus on. There were extraneous words, like bits and pieces of previous edits left over, everywhere. Then there’s just plain word confusion and misuse. Still once you work through that the story is interesting and even fun.
