After a lifetime of seeking revenge for his murdered father, Alastor Déus finally has his chance to capture the killer: his mother. She’s come to town and her welcoming present is a bullet through her teeth. But this family reunion isn’t going to be what he expected… Bullets aren’t going to work. Author Ellie Raine brings her own unique twist to the Private Investigator genre with NIGHTINGALE. Blending mythologies and reality, focusing on Death and its myriad implications, Raine takes Deus and her readers on a roller coaster of danger and explosive passions in NIGHTINGALE.
Award-winning author Ellie Raine is a die-hard lover of epic adventures and thrilling battles. Since it’s what she loves to read (Douglas Hulick, Rachel Aaron, and Brandon Sanderson especially!) obviously it’s what she loves to write.
She grew up in a family of book lovers, comic readers, and video gamers in the suburbs of Georgia where she always dreamed of making the next explosive game series that would catch fire with her darker themes that put the spotlight on her favorite fable: the Grim Reaper.
Her ongoing Scythe-and-Sorcery book series, The NecroSeam Chronicles, was originally intended to be that explosive video game series, but she's found that the book adaptation is far more fulfilling and exciting. Now she writes like mad while at home with her wonderful husband, their two cats, and their darling daughter: the Dragon Princess Felicity.
The first edition of book 1 in the NecroSeam series, Willow of Ashes, was originally published in 2016 by Dark Oak Press, but the second edition was later re-published with ScyntheFy Press in 2018, along with the subsequent books, Orbs of Azure and Pearl of Emerald. Ellie Raine's latest book, Princess of Shadow and Dream, is a Fantasy Novella in the universe of the NecroSeam Chronicles. Her other works include a supernatural-noir novella titled Nightingale that was published with Pro Se Productions in early 2018.
This is a very good book written in the style of a 40's Pulp Detective Murder mystery. Alastor Deus is a gun toting PI that is driven to solve the murder of his father. The mystery isn't who did it, since Alastor saw the shooting when he was a young child, the mystery is finding the killer.
The first two chapters start in fine classic style with gun fire and bodies falling. Chapter three is where the roller coaster ride starts and the book runs non-stop to the finish. Along the way we learn that Alastor has a very unusual family background with him surprised as much as the reader. Greek mythology comes alive and bullets are no help. There's lots of action and Death as the story unfolds with unforeseen plot twists. You are not sure where it's going which makes the read more interesting.
Not a book for children because of the scenes with blood and violence.
Get a copy and enjoy the ride. I'm looking forward to the next book!
I am not generally a person that likes detective novels. However, this book is well worth the read whether you think you like the genre or not.
Fair warning you really have to hang on when reading the book because every time you think you know where it is going Ellie goes somewhere else with the story. Makes for an excellent and enjoyable read.
This will be yet another of Ellie's books that I will reread in the future...it is that good! Buy it ,and more importantly, read it and I doubt you will be disappointed.
Be sure to check out Ellie's other books. I am yet to find one that is not well worth the read.
