We are people seized by longings we can’t seem to satisfy. It’s built into us—in our very bones. We were created with an innate desire to be a part of a world and a story bigger than ours. Sadly, however, most of us spend our lives blind to the fact that this story and this world are right in front of us, beckoning to us to come and play our part. We keep on with our focused, relentless pursuit of everything else and find ourselves dissatisfied.
In Do Something Beautiful, York Moore shows you how to:
reframe your own story and begin seeing God’s story breaking into your life in the everyday moments leave behind mediocrity and be a part of that beautiful story, and make your life count for something that matters. Don’t give up on your “something more.” Chase it better.

Do Something Beautiful by R. York Moore is a well written book. The wisdom of the author along with personal experiences and scriptures will get you to the point of what he is trying to share. This book is best to read in a quiet environment free from distractions to fully understand when he says "the story about everything" and our role in it. One thing about this book that I loved was the way Moore describes his own book about "firefly ideas" throughout the book and the "mason jars of faith and pursue something beautiful and right". And for sure this book is all about that! Throughout the book there are some challenging questions to make you meditate and encourage you to do something beautiful and be a change in our daily lives. Some of the quotes that challenge me are the following: - "Our faith in God becomes the source of doing beautiful things in the lives of others" - "Light shines best in darkness, and so the beauty, righteousness, and community of God shine best in places of despair and need, in the muddy fields of broken lives and forgotten dreams" - " Righteousness isn't about earning a cosmic merit badge or feeling like a better person than someone else; righteousness is about experiencing abundance, bounty, eternal life, which includes things like joy, belonging, hope, togetherness, and so much more" - " Supernatural work requires more than talk. It requires action" - " In God's embrace we are transformed, and we are can then be a part of His transforming work of others by lifting the shame and reproach that comes from being unembraceable"
Disclaimer: I was given an advance reader copy by Moody Publishers in lieu of an honest review. All opinions are my own.
This book was unusual in that it isn’t written like most books. Every chapter something new is introduced but than that concept is tied back in to the ones before it. Words such as beauty, righteousness, bounty, embrace and sacrifice are discussed.
Honestly the beginning was a bit slower than the last half of the book but overall it was a good read and it gave me lots to think about. I especially liked the stories from the author’s life, especially the story of his daughter Gabby and how God brought her to his life, it’s an amazing story. If you want to read more about evangelism and how you can make a difference by sharing Jesus with others and treating others as Jesus would have, then you want to read this book. That’s what it’s mostly about.
The book was full of great quotes too but my favourite is: “Worship is the right response to beauty. The proper response to all beauty is to worship the source of the beauty, not the sub-expressions of beauty. We shouldn’t worship the sun, but the source of the sun’s fire. We shouldn’t worship the snow, but He who spun it into being.” – pg 88-89
I was drawn to this new book by Mr. More. The description given “refrain from your own story and begin seeing God's story braking through in your life in the everyday moments,” is a subject of great interest to me. The author starts by telling us a personal story about an ordinary summer night when he was seven years old. Anyone that has lived East of the Mississippi has experienced this phenomenal sight, phosphorous bugs, fireflies or lightning bugs is what I knew them by. York later in the book uses the light from the firefly as evidence of something more. “Light shines best in darkness, and so the beauty, righteousness, and community of God shine best in places of despair and need, in the muddy fields of broken lives and forgotten dreams.” I found Do Something Beautiful a little slow at times but I gained a lot of insight from reading it. I received this book from Moody Publishing through Net Galleys. The opinion expressed in this review is completely my own.
Title: Do Something Beautiful Author: R. York Moore Genre: Christian/Inspirational Rating: 4 out of 5
As individuals, we are always searching for more; something bigger, better, more meaningful. No matter what we have, we want more. We want our lives to matter more, to be about more, to experience the grand, larger-than-life moments.
Do Something Beautiful shows you how to take the simple, everyday moments in your life and look at them differently, turning “ordinary” into “beautiful.”
The voice in the book is conversational, putting the reader at ease and making it feel like a chat with a friend—not an academic lecture. Anecdotes from the author’s life and stories from people he’s met bring his points to life, making this an engrossing and eye-opening read.

Do Something Beautiful is a relevant and necessary reminder that we, as believers, if we yield to the Spirit, can be a community that affects change. Through exegesis of biblical texts and personal experiences, Moore argues that as we acquiesce to God's leading and control, we will see our lives and that of others emancipated, positively altered, and prepared for the promised future kingdom to come.
R.Yorke Moore has made me look closer at myself through this book. I've come to understand Jesus deeper and more assertive than ever before. This book in my opinion is not to be missed. Christians or non Christians alike should pick this book up and give it a read. Honestly you should Do Something Beautiful
Mr. Moore writes about life and finding something beautiful about it. While I found some of the book hard to read, It did force me to think on good things in life. To be more thankful and never take for granted what God has given us. We can find something beautiful in everything.
A good encouraging book about living Gods intention in the here and now. Bounty....flourishing.....beauty. Each term discussed in relation to Christ and His work to us and thru us and the local community of believers.
