We admire dolphins' streamlined bodies and their agility in the sea, but above all we are intrigued with their intelligence.
With its photographs of crystalline blue and sea-green water, "Dolphins" submerges us in the aquatic world of this creature - an animal we feel a kinship with because of its ability to communicate. Each dolphin has its own unique voice that can be distinguished by the other members of its herd, a group that can number into the thousands. Dolphins emit bursts of high-frequency sound too high-pitched for humans to hear.
Unique, full-color photographs show these sleek and playful creatures in their natural environment. With "Dolphins", we understand our connection to this animal.
This has been one book that has been just floating around my shelves and as much as I like dolphins I just hadn't gotten to it.
I most definitely enjoyed this book since although it is a miniature size it certainly is jammed packed with dolphin information and provides it to the reader in a nice orderly fashion. As a result you get to learn about the animal in an introduction, get to know the families that makes up these animals and then the features that makes them stand out from other animal families.
Due to the book is an introductory type it doesn't look into the bad faces of dolphins as we know them at this. It does, though, take a few shots against them such as suggesting they aren't as smart as they have been said to have been and that their heroic attempts registered in the annals of history and science have just been misinterpretations of other acts although these suggestions weren't given to the reader to allow them to make up their own mind about the translation of such.
And as much as I enjoyed seeing the various photographs of the different dolphins, the book did seem to focus more on the spotted dolphin for subject. Otherwise all in all this is a great nice little introduction to these animals and should help to encourage readers who like these animals to further read more into the animals to get to know them better.
