Rachel Lynette in addition to teaching science to her students in Seattle also manages to find time to write for Kid Haven Press, including a well designed biography on Shel Silverstein. Lynette covers Shel Silverstein’s life with enough details to provide students and readers will enough information to grasp all Silverstein accomplished in his life, but not become a tedious read.
The Innovators series follows many different types of influential people, but in every book includes various pictures and graphs, and index, glossary, and annotated bibliography. This is very prevalent in Shel Silverstein’s edition. My favorite section of this book was the “Further Information” section, which provides the reader with a list of books that were either mentioned are also cover the topic. I think this is a great idea because it promotes investigation and future learning past this one book.
Overall, this book has a creative layout that is easy to look at and understand. The chapter headings are in chronological order thus allowing the reader to go on the life journey with the subject of the book. Lastly, who could honestly turn down an opportunity to look at more of Shel Silverstein’s work?
