The name of this book is very apt. It always feels like twilight with the gloom and misery that comes of being a lady in old France. It's about the lady of the house, Eleanor, and her 3 daughters: Laure (daughter by birth), Alixe (foster daughter), and Lenore (marries her son). They all have different reasons for being depressed. There are occasionally scenes of happiness or hope, but every time their hopes are dashed. However, in the end, they decide the Castle of Twilight is their home. That's it, that's the story
