Narayan Dharap has an cult like status in Marathi literature, if you have wanted to read some fantastic horror, you will always pick up his books. His characters are fascinating, the story he tells is so engrossing that you are not able to sleep at night, as you get afraid of the dark.
But the best thing about the story he tells is that, he always give you metaphysical explanation regarding what is happening in the story, and the good always triumphs in his books.
I was introduced very early to Dharap by my uncle, he read to us his small novel throughout the night, and we were spooked and hooked at the same time, so after that whenever I want read something thrilling or horror in Marathi, I always go to Dharap.
Simple loved it 5/5 stars.
But the best thing about the story he tells is that, he always give you metaphysical explanation regarding what is happening in the story, and the good always triumphs in his books.

This is first time I read a horror novel in Marathi. It is pretty good. Mainly I liked the horror elements. Pace is also very good. It do not get stagnant or force lots of unnecessarily long conversations.
For me the let down was the final fight. Kalhar had supernatural powers, Dr. Goutam invoked power in many people and Guruji was calling for godly powers; this all was setup for an epic battle. But what got was Kalhar throws a rock. Kalhar can had battle with supernatural entity using his powers and other people could have helped him by throwing power in their hand to make him weak. Then Kalhar had to prevent him from escaping till Guruji throws deadly blow on entity. This sounds miles better than what I got. Setup was their but execution was lacking. Otherwise it is pretty good story. I'll read more books from Mr. Dharap.

July 19, 2020I am not a reading person but when I started reading this book i could not stop myself from reading. We can clearly imagine it. Really interesting. Not at all lengthy. ही कथा आहे एका वास्तूची. सुष्ट आणि दुष्ट शक्तींची, त्या वास्तूत घडणाऱ्या घटनांची आणि त्या घटनांच्या परिणामांची..
त्या वास्तूचे सध्याचे मालक वामन सदावर्ते यांच्या मुलीला, सुनीताला त्या घराबाबत विक्षिप्त आणि त्रासदायक स्वप्नं पडायला लागतात. तिच्यावर उपचार करणाऱ्या डॉ गौतमला मात्र काही वेगळं जाणवतं.
तो स्वतः त्या घरात एक रात्र काढतो आणि त्या घराचं खरं रूप, त्या घरात वास करणारी एक शक्ती यांचं अस्तित्व तो अनुभवतो..
ते तळघर, तिथे जाणारा जिना, त्या तळघरातला तो प्रकाश, तिथून येणारे आवाज, ऐकू येणाऱ्या हाका आणि तिथे सतत वावरणारं कोणीतरी..
पण तळघरातलं ते कोणीतरी, काहीतरी आज तिथे आलेलं नाही, काळाच्या पडद्यावर आपली ओंगळवाणी बोटं रुतवून पिढ्यानंपिढ्या ते तिथं वावरतय..
संधी मिळताच ते जागं होतं, बाहेर येतं आणि मग पुन्हा ऐकू येतात हाका, ओळखीच्या, त्या तळघरातून आलेल्या, ऐकणाऱ्याला खाली बोलावणाऱ्या..
नारायण धारपांची पुस्तकं वाचताना 'भीती' म्हणजे नक्की काय हे कळतं. अतृप्त आत्मे, भूत, पिशाच्च यांच्या पलीकडचं बिभीत्स, थरारक पण तितकंच जिवंत जग समोर उभं राहतं..
मी नारायण धारपांचं पाहिलं पुस्तक शाळेत असताना वाचलं, चेटकीण ते पुस्तक. अजूनही कितीही वेळा ते पुस्तक वाचलं तरी भीतीने तो ओळखीचा काटा येतोच.

एक खिळवून ठेवणारी भयकथा. ४४४ चंदनवाडी या बंगल्यात सुखा - समाधानाने रहात असताना वामन सदावर्ते यांच्या मुलीला विलक्षण स्वप्नांचा त्रास होऊ लागला. या स्वप्नांचा उगम शोधण्यासाठी त्यांनी संपर्क साधला डॉ. गौतम देशमनेला आणि या गोष्टीने पुढच्या सर्व घडामोडींना चालना मिळाली.
या घडामोडी गेल्या काही महिन्यात किंवा वर्षात सुरू झालेल्या नसून त्यांची परंपरा फार जुनी आहे व चंदनवाडीतल्या घातकी अस्तित्वाचा चटका बसलेले सदावर्ते पहिलेच नाहीत हे गौतमच्या लक्षात येते.
या कथेतील प्रत्येक दुवा दुसऱ्याशी जोडलेला आहे. काहीही अनाठायी वाटत नाही व अतिशयोक्ती जाणवत नाही.
गौतमच पात्र मनावर कधीही न विसरता येणारी छाप पाडतं. त्याचबरोबर सदावर्ते, नित्सुरे, वज्रे, येडाम या सगळ्या पात्रांच एक विशिष्ठ स्थान निर्माण होतं. प्रत्येक पात्रच वैशिष्ट्य लक्षात येतं.
सुष्ट आणि दुष्ट शक्तिंमधला संघर्ष हे पुस्तक सक्षमपणे मांडत. साधनेच महत्त्व अधोरेखित करतं.
धरापांची लेखनशैली उत्कृष्ट आहे. ठळक गोष्टींपेक्षा सांकेतिक गोष्टींची भीती वाटते. भीतीच वातावरण निर्माण करण्यात धारप अत्यंत सक्षम ठरतात.

उगाचच ताणलेली गोष्ट, पुस्तक वाचताना कुठेही धक्कातंत्र, भयकथा वाटली नाही
कथेचा शेवट तर अगदीच मिळमिळीत आहे, काय गूढ आहे नक्की कोणते पिशाच्च बंगल्यात वावरते काय हवय त्याला कुठेही नीट उल्लेख नाही
संपूर्ण कथानकात फक्त डॉक्टर देशमाने किती चांगले आहेत आणि सगळ कस अगदी गोडीगुलाबी मधे सुरू आहे
त्यामुळे कथा वाचताना खऱ्या परिस्थितीचा अभाव वाटतो आणि कथा फक्त कृत्रिम वाटते
त्यामुळे हे पुस्तक पूर्णपणे वेळेचा अपव्यय आहे

Simply fantastic
Fast paced, increasing curiosity, superb plot. You keep guessing what is going to happen now. Combination of religion and modern techniqes.

The plot is simply mind-boggling! It is a horror story with a touch of psycho-analysis, in the sense that the conscious mind is challenged about the unconscious element.
