Dawn is sad, emotionally broken, and recovering from a recent family tragedy when she meets a handsome new neighbor. The new neighbor, Macon, is kind, chivalrous, and determined to win Dawn's heart. But, what will Dawn's boisterous and overly confident best friend, Dre, have to say about this new neighbor. Will he embrace her new love interest or will he want her for himself? Travel on the highs and lows of Dawn's journey as she decides if someone old or someone new is best for her.
This was good. A few grammatical errors, but it was a great romance story. Macon is book bae. I loved all her friends. Dawn had great friends when she needed them. That Dre, I could just hit him at some points. He finally got some sense. Ready for the next story.
This is my first Marlee Rae book and she has a new fan in me. This was my BoM selection for my book club and unlike my last couple of book selections, I loved this book! This is one of those stories that you absolutely don’t want to stop reading and a book you can’t put down. It tells a beautiful story about real friendship, trust, honesty, commitment and love. Each of those values is the hikers the formula for the ultimate form of love, in my opinion, to take place in all relationships. This book outlined each character perfectly! There was no guessing or anything left out when a character came up in the book, I knew something about him/her and wasn’t left guessing about their personalities.
Having a 30-plus friendship with someone means a lot, and I felt the pure love between Dawn and Dre from the start and that feeling never left throughout the book. Macon, when I tell you nothing but love can come to a man that honest and open about his feelings. One thing for sure, when a Man wants you, you will Know It! A MAN leaves no room for guessing and misunderstandings, this is what I adored about Macon.
I promise you will love this book because it truly is a great read on the ultimate forms love in both romantic relationships and friendship.
Thoughts: this was my first book from Marlee Rae. It will definitely not be my last. One of the main things I enjoyed about this story is that, for me, was a classic romance story. The two main characters, Macon and Dawn, were two adults who both were divorced and basically starting over. These two took the time to get to know one another before jumping into a physical relationship. I loved that the author took this avenue with the story. It was a breath of fresh air to see characters develop and get to know one another before sex is written on page.
This story also tackled grief and the different ways one may handle it. There’s a strong friend group that show support for one another that I also admired. The drama within the story was relatable and had me on edge a little. Andre or Dre , who was the best friend to Dawn, decides that he is most important and want to stake claim. The way that Macon handles the situation is very mature. He made valid points and I loved him for it. I loved him for Dawn and he showed how a man should handle things.
I wanted to read a more mature romance and that’s what I got with this one. I am thankful to have come across this author and I can’t wait to see what the next installment may have in store.
BINGO, SELFISH‼️…”Something Old? Something New? (Something About Love Series - Book 1 of 3) was a great read. It provided the back ground & context to the peculiar dynamics between Andre*Dawn*Macon🤔. ..Foremost, Dre & Macon’s testosterone Alpha battle of establishing/maintaining precious territory (🤭) are frenemies in their mutual object Dawn for new romantic love/affection verses a familiar platonic friendzone longevity/infatuation. 😮💨exasperating to witness🤦🏾♀️. The whizzing contest is comical! There are benefits that Dre unfortunately never master to sibling rilveries. Characteristics which are not mutual exclusive to only child, but Andre is/was manipulative, juvenile & possessive in his thirty four years friendship with Dawn. His relationship (with Dawn) was never threatened nor his actions ever challenged by a male paramour. …Also, his friend’s circle never checked/warned him either🥴🤔. Nevertheless, Andre finally realized & stated the obvious yes he indeed is/was selfish 🤷🏾♀️🤦🏾♀️‼️
As I read chapter one I kept thinking to myself..can’t anybody see that Dre is into Dawn….wait Did I miss read the synopsis 😂😂 I kept wanting to rush to the last chapter to see what was going to happen Between Dawn and the two men who wanted her heart. I kept wondering who was going to turn the word love into an action word to the point that there would be no question about who was really in love with Dawn.
This was a cute story and a good read my reason for not giving five Stars, Is simply because I might be in my feelings a bit because I was hoping for an epilogue that gave a little more info about what transpired between Dawn and the man who really proved he loved her😂. I guess I may get my answers as I read the next to books on this series 😂. No I don’t plan on giving any spoilers because I need someone else to struggle as I did, trying to see who Dawn was going to end up with. ❤️
Marker Rae is a new author for me. I met her at a recent Indie Love noon event that I attended in Atlanta. This story was very well written, it's about finding love at middle aged while dealing with grief.. Dawn a middle aged divorcee grieving the sudden death of her mother wasn't looking for love when she meets Macon a younger man also a divorced. The two have instant chemistry and their relationship flows rapidly. I really enjoyed it, Marlee adds a bit of intrigue to the story Dawns long time friend Andre(Dre) after witnessing how quickly she falls for Macon realizes that he also has feelings for her. Whom will Dawn choose her new love or call back on her old friend due to their history. I will be reading the remaining two books in this series as well as any new reads by Marlee Rae.
This was a very good start for this author. My first read, and I think her first novel. I'll get the critical stuff out of the way first. Moms was used a few times, and a few typos. None of those things hindered the story. The storyline was very good, the characters were clear, and the content was well developed, the sex was hot. I liked Mason from the start. Dawn was sweet, easygoing, and while still grieving for the loss of her mother. Her friend Dre was a godsend and a terror all in the same body. You'll have to read to see what I mean. I'm happy she had the network of friends in her time of need, Tori, Janae, Robert, and Dre were her solace. I was happy she chose the Right man.... 4.5 stars....
Dawn, she's lost so much this year but things are looking up when Macon comes into her life. She has great friends, a new man, his family loves her, what could go wrong? How about your best friend for the last 30+ years telling you he's in love with you? Even Dawn didn't see that coming, but everyone else did. Dre is completely selfish for dropping this bomb on Dawn, especially when she finds someone who truly makes her happy. Will he man up and realize the position he's putting Dawn in or stick with his selfishness? Macon... younger, but wise beyond his years. He sticks by Dawn, consoling her, helping her, loving her, and accepting Dre as a part of her life no matter how trifling he can be about their relationship.
This was a great story of unexpected love! Dawn was friend barely holding on and when she didn’t expect it or even think she wanted it, love showed up in the form of Macon. The dilemma with her best friend added drama she didn’t see coming at a time when she really didn’t need it. I loved the ending and was glad it was the ending she received. I wanted to give this five stars but the misuse of to and too kept annoying me throughout the story.
This was my first read by this author and I enjoyed it. Dawn and Macon's story was sweet and I enjoyed it. It touched on some very good topics and it showed two different sides of the things people do for love. I enjoyed the character build and the storyline was very relatable. Supporting characters were definitely likable. Looking forward to book 2.
I enjoyed the story. It was nice to read about older people with real jobs. It was more like a realistic romance. I liked the entire group. The girls were good friends. And I did like Dre even if he was selfish at times. First time reading this author. I will definitely read her books again.
I really like this story and now I adore this auther. This was a great story. Beautifully written characters. It was everything I was looking for. You definitely will not be bored reading this story.
Everything about it was fantastically realistic. This book will have you rooting for the heroine, rooting for the hero, and rooting for the enemy. 😆
This book was absolutely good from start to finish, but I’m mad at myself for reading Brown’s Sugar (which was the cutest book ever) 1st bc I wanted to stay mad at Dre for his selfishness. Shout out to Macon for letting Dawn make the decision for herself. Very good weekend read.
This was a well written debut novel! Dawn & Macon 😍! Macon was exactly what Dawn needed, they balanced each other out. Dawn’s friends lol they were definitely a joy to the book( even if I had an attitude with Dre)! I’ll be looking forward to reading about the friends👀
I absolutely loved this book. It was such a pleasure. reading about adults my age. I loved the way the way all the different relationships were displayed in the story. Macon is my new man crush! I can hardly wait for the other books in the series.
The way I fussed and sweat bullets reading this book! Dre got on my laaaast nerve! Bless his entire heart! But, I got over it - eventually. Great read! I'm excited about the next book!
This was such a beautiful story about finding love when you least expected. Macon was head over hill for Dawn, he put his feeling a side for her well fair. Dre was a mess but he wasn't to bad.
I enjoyed following Dawn during her healing and falling in love. Marlee Rae did an excellent job building the characters. Looking forward to reading the next book.
