Some of the interviews were particularly incredible. I was so thankful that the author preserved the original voices of the conductors, their personalities were shining through the pages. With some of them I felt an immediate connection and thought, oh, how I wish I could meet them in person and hear more of what they have to say. Others were more of a perseverance. 😂

I wish this book would never end.

Haitink’s and Davis’s interviews were particular highlights for me.

And I think this ending quote from Haitink says something about why I loved the book so much:

Too much of everything. There are too many books, there are too many concerts — everything. You are always having to choose.

Haitink on Mahler and Davis on Berlioz were great reads, James Levine on Verdi and Mozart was a very odd pairing of composers and not the most exciting read.
