This book seemed to mostly be about how to develop a bigger ego! It was a very quick read that seemed mostly like an advertisement for the author's inspirational speaking gigs. That said, it was hard not to like the feel-good stories and the nourishing, familiar advice about goal-setting.
nice short essay on the practices of positivity that drive phil hellmuth. he is a professional poker player and has won currently more first-tier professional trophees than anyone else.
i have seen him during games and it is very interesting how he maintains his composure under stress even when continuously attacked verbally and having opponents with the declared goal of challenging him emotionally. the advices he gives are common in the self help books, what i found interesting is that he is describing the subset of techniques that work for him in detail.
i only gave it three stars because it is a very short read - i could have enjoyed a longet version easily.
achieving success starts with setting clear intentions. Here’s a quick recap of the techniques you need to employ: Write down your life goals and keep your yearly goals visible on your bathroom mirror. Right beside them, list your blessings to stay focused on what matters. Build a winning pyramid to strengthen your positive habits, stay true to your values, open doors to new opportunities, let go of hate, and learn how to handle success with humility.
Took me about 15 minutes to read but a nice little book. He could have padded it out a lot more but it works well being succinct. The tips Phil shares for maintaining positivity are useful and actionable, even if they might be things you’ve come across before. Worth a read, and it’s available on Kindle Unlimited.
So I always enjoy Phil on tv, whether in his "poker brat" persona or during a more subdued time. This book may just give me the strength to forgive some old enemies and progress my life in the path I want! Great book and takes no time to read, but a while to master. Kind of like NLH....
This book was much better than I expected. Short and focused, he does not waste time with filler fluff. He gives insight into his life while presenting his strategy to achieve success. And no one can question his success! This is a book from which everyone can gain. Strong recommendation.
Phil is a good person who acknowledges the logic of life in a direct narrative. I have began the practice advised in this book which is simple but an effective way to change your lifestyle to attract #POSITIVITY
Take what you believe, and leave what you doubt. Quick read with nice resources for setting goals with actionable items —if you know what you want to achieve— and don’t mind a little fluff from the author.
I’ve decided not to rate this book, simply because it’s a short read on positive goal setting, written by a professional poker player that I’m a fan of. I liked it, definitely feel inspired and who knows, find me in a year and ask how I’m doing, maybe I’ll have won the WSOP
