An enjoyable English mystery with the perfect balance of build-up and action. This story has likable characters and an intriguing setting. I also loved the descriptions of delicious food woven into the narrative!
I found the mystery to be sufficiently set-up and although I did correctly predict the perpetrator, it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book overall.
I would recommend this book to fans of mysteries with a touch of romance who don't have to have a story linger ad infinitum until it gets around to the good stuff!

Many thanks to NetGalley and >>be<< by Bastei Entertainment for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was my first visit to Cherringham, a little village in England. The book works well as a stand alone mystery and I never felt like I was missing some information from the previous 27 installments. It was only about a 2 hour read but time well spent.

It is a short but very well constructed mystery with nicely developed characters. The suspense built up steadily and towards the end I was glued to my chair.

I enjoyed the description of the delicious meals that were served in both restaurants. Yum!

I requested this book from NetGalley and am thankful that Bastei Entertainment and the author provided me with an advance copy.

Thank you to NetGalley and be-ebooks for a digital galley of this short story.

If you are in the mood for a quick mystery short story that has all the goodies you want from a well written mystery novel, look no further than the collection of cozy mysteries in the Cherringham series. This one is called A Dinner to Die For and at 117 pages you will get a nice little puzzle to solve in the space of a few short hours. Sometimes books feel as if they labor to finally get to the magic 200 page finish line. I never worry with this series from authors Matthew Costello and Neil Richards about a book wandering around the countryside just so pages will pass by. This is the third Cherringham cozy mystery I've read - and definitely not in order - so that's another thing you don't have to worry about. The main characters are already in place so that each story simply picks up with whatever event is currently happening in this English village in the Cotswolds. Each book has a brief description of the series, a blurb about the story, a brief introduction to the two main characters, and a brief biography of both authors and how they collaborate while one is based in the US and one in Britain.

In this story there seems to be real animosity between Jake, the owner of the Spotted Pig pub and Anna the head chef at the new restaurant in Cherringham. The rivalry for tempting upscale dining customers turns very ugly and soon escalates out of control. Jack Brennan and Sarah Edwards are trying to solve this mystery before someone is seriously hurt.

This was a pleasant afternoon read for me. I like this mystery series, especially when I want to read something that doesn't make me imagine a dead body in every room and two in the upstairs hall. Very laid back yet still well written so you get good characterizations for returning and new characters alike. These stories are set in one of my favorite areas of England so it is always a time to slow down and take some deep breaths when I start one of these stories.

SPOILER ALERT!! I love the Cherringham mysteries. However, this one made me rethink whether I want to keep reading them. I’m a big fan of a romantic relationship between Sarah and Jack. This book introduces a New Yorker, chef, former drug addict that supposedly Jack immediately falls for... sorry not buying it. He still thinks about and misses his ex wife. He has thoughts about how much Sarah means to him... so? We’ve been led to believe that Jack is just starting maybe, to get beyond his grief, and appreciate his time with Sarah. Now... in 2-3 short meetings he is smitten with a former addict? Doesn’t match what we have been shown of him in the past books. At the same time Sarah has been written to be showing a broadening interest in Jack. I hate being manipulated. I was worried that the authors were going to drag this “ Love story” out until our characters were in their 70tys and 80tys and we would see them realize their love and be sitting on a porch in rocking chairs holding hands! So not what they each deserve! So.. I’m not a fan of this new “ love interest for Jack. For me it tainted what was becoming a really lovely storyline and made me feel badly for Sarah. I think I will give this series a rest until I glean from reviews and outlines where the new romance is going. No point in reading more about Jack and Anna!

I like this series. I pick it up when I'm in the mood for a British cozy but has an American twist. Jack moved to the small village of Cherringham after he retired as a NYC police detective. He and Sarah struck up a friendship and solve local crimes around the countryside. They're quite good as this is book 28. This story has a new eatery opening and the owners of the Spotted Pig are being accused of sabotage. Something strange is happening and it looks like soon both restaurants will be closed if something isn't done. Story introduces Anna as the new chef and looks like she may become an important part of Jack's life. This book is easy to read as a stand alone. The entire series is fun and not to complicated or involved in mundane details. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Good little story about who was trying to sabotage a new restaurant. Lots of suspicious culprits but Jack and Sarah got to the bottom of it. AND Jack might have found himself a new girlfriend.

As to the narration: Neil Dudgeon always does such a wonderful job on these novellas. If he ever stops narrating them I’d definitely stop listening.

Jack and Sarah enter into their next adventure in this new book by Matthew Costello and Neil Richards. A restaurant called the Spotted Pig is run by husband Jack who is the chef and his wife Julie who is the dining room hostess. When they are present in the full dining room, suddenly the door bursts open and the chef of the new restaurant Bayleaf comes in carrying a box. Her name is Anna Garcia.

Anna is vehement and pulls a dead rat out of the box and tosses it on some diners’ table. She accuses the Spotted Pig’s chef of stealing her recipes and sabotaging her establishment by placing the dead rat in it. She then storms out after issuing threats.

Sarah’s mother was the unfortunate diner on whose table landed the rat. After telling Sarah of the evening, Sarah calls Jack and asks him to come over to discuss the issue. Jack and Sarah decide to do a preliminary investigation.

While Jack goes to dine at the Bayleaf, Sarah does some online research on Anna Garcia. Jack has coffee after his meal with Anna. She tells him the story of what went wrong in New York. She is certain that someone is sabotaging her efforts in Cherringham and gives Jack examples. Meanwhile, Sarah finds out some interesting tidbits from the internet.

Jack sees Sam running away near the restaurant after another act of sabotage. He tells Sarah. It seems there are an awful lot of secrets about the town.

Then a fire is set at the Bayleaf. Inside is Sam who says he ran over to see if he could help; that he saw someone inside the building. Anna and her sous chef Paddy clearly don’t believe him. The evidence seems to be building for Sam being the saboteur, but Jack thinks something doesn’t add up.

The owner of the restaurant, Karl Desmond, has secrets too. He has had a series of restaurants, each offering a different type of food. Some are out of business and some aren’t. Why did he tell Sarah that he didn’t know Paddy when he was in the opening photographs as shown on the internet?

While the people behind the scheme to close Anna’s restaurant down came as no surprise, this is still a nice little mystery. Cozies are not my specialty, but I liked this one- it was particularly good - and will read more of them as they are published. I liked Jack and Sarah. Their particular skill sets worked very well together and they get along well, too.

I want to thank NetGalley and be-ebooks for forwarding to me a copy of this delightful little book to read and enjoy.

Cherringham – A dinner to die for was sent to me by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review, and I will start by telling you I read the 96 pages in less than a day, and I got to a point towards the end of the book I had to get up from my bed to sit on the floor because I felt the book needed some drama, as a result of the great plot.

      *

Jack an ex detective and Sarah a web designer are great friends who came to live in a small village Cherringham, they are not just friends but mystery solvers, because together they solved a lot of mysteries.

Sam and Julie are couples who own a restaurant called spotted pig (queer name), they were doing well until Anna, Sam’s shriveled past came to live in Cherringham too, opening her own restaurant.

Then series of mysterious attacks and disastrous happenings started in Anna’s restaurant and because of the bad history Anna and Sam had, all accusing fingers were pointed at Sam.

The intriguing  part of this book is getting your mind to follow up with the characters, especially Jack and Sarah, as they point out clues and merge them together to find out secrets and unveil mysteries behind them.

This book keeps you guessing to the last page, though 2 chapters to the end, I had an hunch of who and what was behind the mysteries, but I still couldn’t put a finger on what it was. It’s really is a cosy crime series.

I love this book and I would love to read the other series, I would have given it 5 stars, but I had to reach Chapter 3 and go back and forth between reading the book and about the book before I could understand the book. Regardless, it’s a must read.  So I give it  4/5 stars

I listened to this as an audiobook, so I probably missed a few details here and there. Plus, I'm not reading these in order, so I might be missing out on things lol. But overall, this was a quick and easy listen. The pacing was fast, which I actually liked, but the story itself didn’t feel super engaging. Not a lot really happened.

From the start, it’s obvious Sam and Anna have a history. The idea that Anna is trying to sabotage Sam’s bar was interesting, especially with the recipe theft angle. But honestly, the more I listened, the more I started to feel like Anna was the one behind it all - like she was framing Sam on purpose. I didn’t trust her at all.

The subplot with Jack and his feelings for Anna felt kind of unnecessary, I didn’t really get their chemistry. In fact, his relationship with Anna felt a bit forced, especially since there’s another character, Sarah (Jack’s colleague), who seemed like she could be a better match. Poor Sarah.

All in all, it was fine. Not bad, just not super memorable. The story moved quickly, and the short runtime worked in its favor. But I didn’t find myself very emotionally invested in any of the characters or relationships. A decent filler read, but not one that’ll stick with me for long.

This was a great short story! This is book #28 in the Cherringham series. I have not read any of the previous stories in the series, but I had no problem jumping right in and enjoying this story.

The preface gives a nice description of Jack and Sarah, our lead detectives in this story. Jack is a retired New York police officer who has moved to Cherringham, England. Sarah is a divorced mother of two nearly grown children who moved back to Cherringham after her divorce. It’s obvious the two have a history of solving crimes together, and I liked to see their chemistry and how they seamlessly divvy up investigative tasks. In this story, two local restaurants are suffering a series of mishaps, and each head chef suspects the other chef of sabotage. Jack and Sarah decide to get to the bottom of things before both restaurants go out of business.

This was a fun, quick read and I would recommend to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries that aren’t always about a murder. I am looking forward to reading more Cherringham stories.

Thanks to #NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the second in this cozy mystery series that I have read and the best one so far. A short novel (all are in a shorter format) but quite good. A fun read.
Sarah and Jack are called upon by the local restaurant owner/chef of the Spotted Pig and his wife to help investigate some accusations coming from the chef, Anna, of a new restaurant in town.
It appears that 2 restaurants maybe too much for the small town of Cherringham. Someone is trying to put the new restaurant out of business with food poisoning, faulty plumbing, and other acts of sabotage. Anna strongly believes it is her old flame who is now married and owns the Spotted Pig. Jack and Sarah search to find who is really behind these acts before someone gets seriously hurt.
Thank you NetGalley and publisher, be-ebooks, for the opportunity to read this ARC.

A laid back mystery story set in a cosy little town in England. A short story that packed with everything you want from a mystery book. This is book number 28 in the series, yet you could read it in any order, no worries.

Huge animosity between two restaurants that very likely would escalate to lose-lose end. Sarah and Jack asked to found out and solved the problem before Cherringham lost its fine dining venues.

As short story, this book could be read in one sitting, on commute times, waiting times, or any other short times you have to relax a bit. A high quality yet very enjoyable read. I love Cherringham books as my travel companion.

I was provided a complementary copy by the author / publisher through NetGalley, but this in no way influenced my thoughts or opinions.

When a new restaurant comes to town, the Bayleaf seems to be struggling with someone trying to put them out of business. It appears the chef and owner of the established Spotted Pig may be trying to take out the competition...whose chef turns out to be an old flame from his single days.

Tempers are as hot as the food being served and the local sleuths set out to find out exactly what is happening before anyone truly gets hurt.

I have not read any of the previous stories in this series and it didn't have an impact on my enjoying this story. I feel in love with the charming town and its residents. These shorter stories are great for when I am super busy but still want to read something and get to through the whole story. I can't wait to read more in this series!

This was a fun and quick read. I liked how Sarah and Jack work together to solve the mystery.

Not a lot of depth, but it was exactly as it was described...a cozy mystery. The English village was charming and the language entertaining. The meals served sounded interesting, though some did not appeal to me at all.

While I had pretty much ch figured out who was involved in the bad things that happened in the restaurant, I wasn't sure why it was happening. So that remained a mystery till the end.

I would read another book in this series if given the opportunity.

+ + Wer will dem neuen Restaurant in Cherringham schaden? [#28]

Sabotage in der gehobenen Gastronomie - - ruhiger britischer Dorfkrimi

Laufzeit: 3 Std. 45 Min. - Sprecherin: Sabina Godec

The little village of Cherringham finds itself in quite a stir when a new restaurant opens up. The chef insists someone is tampering with her restaurant, and she seems sure that the culprit is the owner of the second restaurant in town, the Spotted pig. But are things really that simple? Jack, a former police officer, and Sarah will have to investigate before things get out of hand.

This is a fast paced cozy mystery. A quick and pleasant read, it is quite entertaining. It is well written and easily read in a day. All in all a good addition to the cozy mystery variety.

A new restaurant has opened in Cherringham. At first, it was a great success but then odd things began happening: a number of people became ill after eating seafood, negative reviews began popping up in social media, and a dead rat appeared in the kitchen. The chef blamed it all on the chef at Cherringham's other restaurant, who just happens to be a friend of Jack and Sarah's. It turns out the two chefs have a history but is their history the source of all these business-destroying pranks? Jack and Sarah are on the case in this 28th Cherringham mystery short.

Another enjoyable outing with Jack and Sarah. Well developed mystery given the limited suspects. Would be nice to see Jack and Sarak work more together in the field, but as Jack mentions, their skills differ.

If you're looking for a shorter mystery read, these satisfy.

Even 3 stars is a gift because I usually love this series!
The series lives from the interaction and relationship between Jack and Sarah. There was next to 0 of that in this book, plus a sudden love interest for Jack???
After they have teased us with an escalating romantic relationship throughout the last books?

I really didnt like it
