Pour son huitième anniversaire, Nola, petite fille espiègle, reçoit de la part de son père Martin la boîte à musique de sa mère, Annah, récemment décédée. Cette boîte est un symbole pour la petite fille, mais très vite, la fillette croit voir des signes de vie à l'intérieur. Oui, elle ne rêve pas : quelqu'un lui fait signe et lui demande de l'aide. Dès lors, en suivant les instructions d'Andréa, la fille de la boîte à musique, Nola rapetisse, entre dans la boîte et découvre le monde de Pandorient, un monde incroyable... Le temps presse cependant, car Mathilda, la mère d'Andréa et de son frère Igor, est gravement malade... Que lui arrive-t-il ? Aurait-elle été empoisonnée ? L'eau serait-elle contaminée ? Welcome to Pandorient is the first installment in The Music Box series and it was first published in French this year. Thanks to Europe Comics because they will release all the volumes of this in English and as a fan of graphic novels, I'm really grateful for the opportunity they give for these comic illustrators from Europe to introduce their works worldwide.

The comic book targets young kids, such as middle graders, but older readers will be delighted on reading Nola's story and her journey to the world of Pandorient. I believe that 50 pages are not enough for me, thus I'm anticipating to check the release of the succeeding volumes from this series because I'm really eager to know what other adventures Nola will have.

Lushly illustrated, The Music Box - Volume 1: Welcome to Pandorient makes an excellent entry-level graphic novel.



For her eighth birthday, Nola receives a snow globe-like music box that had belonged to her late mother. While admiring its beauty, she notices something very strange: it looks like there is a live person inside the globe.



Before you know it, Nola has shrunk down and entered the mysterious world of Pandorient. There she meets some new friends and learns secrets she never knew her mother had. Nola and her new friends then must hustle to find the answers behind the friends' mother's strange malady.

The story here isn't really new, but the characters and world-building are strong, and leave you wanting to dive into the next volume -- hopefully its release is not too long after this one!

Eighth-year-old Nola receives a music box that once belonged to her late mother. But she soon discovers it is not a regular music box but a passageway to another world, Pandorient. She learns that her mother often visited this world, and many residents know her.

The illustrations are well-done. This is a cute fantasy graphic novel for children.

petit (gros) coup de ❤️ pour cette histoire à laquelle j’attribue 4.5 / 5 ⭐️ j’ai aimé l’univers dans lequel Nola est si rapidement plongée, j’ai adoré les illustrations et j’entame de ce pas le deuxième tome! c’est une aventure en soi et un univers merveilleux, ça se lit rapidement, mais c’est prenant et ça se lit un tome après l’autre. une belle découverte dont je parlerai certainement à mes élèves dès la semaine prochaine! c’est à lire, peu importe votre âge; que vous soyez plus jeune ou que vous soyez amoureux de bandes-dessinées, simplement 😊.

I read this book with my sister and it was so much fun!

I liked the art style & the colors used is so bright and beautiful.
The story itself was really cute and touching. It talks about grief and how much support you need to overcome it, motherhood, childhood, mixed with whimsy.
If you have a younger one, I would highly recommend checking it out!

Introductory book to the Pandorient fantasy land - inside a music box.

In Nola eighth birthday her father gives a music box , memento from her deceased mother. When she winds it up, she discovers to her surprise a small figure, another girl apparently asking for help.



Inside, she discover another very diferent world, full of fantasy beings, strange and maybe dangerous. And... her mother seems to hide many secrets as well. What in the world is this world, and why is Nola's mother hiding it? (a sort of Superman botle of Kandor)

Beautiful colorful art. Potential friends Neighbors, delinquents, police and hard laws, forbidden relationships. Many more stories to explore, apart from this strange world.

El dibujo me recuerda singularmente a los del dibujante Oskar en Mampato. Sobre todo cuando dibujo a la madre de los niños. Es claro y con personajes fantasticos, y da indicios de cosas más oscuras con la policia, y con los constantes llamados de atención de que Pandorien es un mundo peligroso sobre todo para alguien del mundo 'hexagonal'. No es una historia demasiado compleja, es para lectores jovenes , y como es introductorio cumple con dejar el gusto de querer saber más de este mundo y porque esta dentro de la caja y que cosas más aguardan allí.

Bonita fantasia, me gustaria seguir leyendo otra entrega.

I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Wow, this was just wow. I had high hopes for this one based on the cover, and then I started reading. I just adored this one, believe me it will grab you and not let you go until the end of the story (and then you just want more).

Say hello to Nola. She just turned 8 years old and has been given something that belonged to her mother, a small snowglobe/music box. Nola quickly finds out that the music box is much more special beside looking gorgeous. It contains a world filled with people (humans and non-humans). Nola is being called in to help (in a way that had me laughing, especially her reaction upon seeing the call for help) and thus begins the story.

Nola was such a fun character, though I did feel sorry for her once we find out that her mom has gone (I am guessing that means she died).
I thought Nola was very brave. Many people wouldn't have done what she does in this story. She kept going and thinking of solutions, she tried her best to help out her new friends and their mother.

As the story continues we find out more about the world Nola entered, Pandorient. We find out that it is a pretty strict world despite looking absolutely peaceful and gorgeous. There are rules everywhere, and people call on some sort of police-kind of force (even for something like someone having a relationship with someone they shouldn't have a relationship with). Which is kind of creepy and gave me flashbacks to Russia and Germany during certain times in history.
Plus, Nola, isn't all too welcome and has to be hidden. Nope, this world looks gorgeous but there is a lot going on and I am quite curious as to who rules this world and if it was always unfriendly towards strangers. Plus I do want to see more of the world in general as it looks pretty dang gorgeous. How big is this world? Just this one city? Or is there a whole world that one can explore should they choose to? And how did it come to be in the globe/music box or how did it start to exist? Hopefully we will get more answers in the next volumes.

There was also a hint of mystery, namely how did Andrea's mom get sick? What is going on with the water? Is it the water? It was quite fun to see the kids (Igor, Nola, Andrea) try to figure out what was going on and if they could fix things.

The ending was great, and we have a new item that will give more information on Nola's mom and Pandorient.

And then there was the return, and yes, I have to say I sniffled a bit at how sweet the dad is. Aww!

The art was just amazing, as I said I loved the cover already, but the art inside is just as gorgeous.

All in all, I need more Pandorient. I need more of this series. It was just too good. I would highly recommend this one to everyone.

Really good! Beautiful artwork, a fun and intriguing adventure in an imaginary world. This book doesn't reinvent the wheel, but it does a very good job creating a far above average story! Good work!

Nola is mourning her mother, so to receive her music box for her 8th birthday is the best gift ever. It has the most enchanting melody, and inside the globe… is that a little girl waving? And calling for help?! Before she knows it, Nola has shrunk down size, slipped through the keyhole, and entered the world of Pandorient... A magical place her mother visited often?!

This is clearly for middle grade readers at only 66 pages... Though it is clearly short it packs a powerful punch starting the plot quickly without any drag at the outset. I was totally on board with Nola dealing with her grief by helping her mother's friend. They even solve the mysterious case of how the poisoning happened in the first place which is a neat way for the plot to go for kids. I like that the plot had a beginning, middle and end even though for me as an adult it was a little kidish without me wanting to know more. I could see the missions getting more complex and that would be fun!

I really liked Nola. She was clearly missing her mom without getting whiny about it. She wanted to know more about her mom... in fact was eager to soak more up about her... That rang really true to me... And I believe she would have helped anyone who said they were a friend of her mothers and could tell her more. I LOVED the two kids, they felt like brother and sister and were quite fun explaining things about the world in quite a natural way. And it was neat how they had to get over some prejudice of their own... it was a neat little message for middle grade readers.

The ART! That is what really made the world come alive... I really felt like I went somewhere else. It's a little like our own world but obviously made up of other races and a more simple time. I loved all the color and how the children were drawn. The creatures were my favorite though! Particularly the guy they pegged as the villain! There is a message in the art that we can't judge right or wrong based on how someone looks.

This is NOT the most tense of stories... In fact, I really didn't feel tense at all though I did wonder how they would figure out who done it! This is how a middle grade world should be setup and now I'm really anxious to return... Even though the story was simple I really want to return to Pandorient and go on more missions with Nola, Andrea and Igor! These need to come out fast and furious and keep the momentum going...

The Music Box is the start to a fun series of adventures for middle grade readers. The first is a little simple for adults but the world building is sure to be fun with all sorts of races and creatures. As portal fantasies go this one gives us a really satisfying glimpse into Pandorient...

Перед тим, як розказати вам про чарівне банде дессіне «Музична скринька» («La boîte à musique») Карбона й Жіже, яке вийшло друком у видавництві «Наша Ідеа», хочеться трішки розповісти про авторів цього мальопису.

Карбон — це псевдонім французької сценаристки мальописів Бенедикт Карбонейл (Bénédicte Carboneill), яка завжди хотіла працювати з дітьми і творити для них. У 1995 році вона приєдналася до викладацького складу, де поєднувала професію вчительки із публікаціями про освіту в журналах та періодичних виданнях. І вже у 2015 році вона спробувала свої сили, як сценаристки мальописів, а її першим альбомом було банде дессіне «Проміжок часу» («Le Pass Temps»), яке було якраз видано під псевдонімом Карбон. У її доробку вже є крім вищезгаданого альбому й багато інших: «Анонімні Зідніки» («Les Zindics anonymes»), «В очах Ля» («Dans les yeux de Lya»), «Змова у Версалі» («Complot à Versailles»), «Маяна» («Maïana») та «Музична скринька» («La Boîte à musique») про який сьогодні піде мова.

Жером Жиле, художник, який узяв собі псевдонім Жіже, народився в місті Лубумбаші, Конго. Після навчання на ілюстратора в університеті Сен-Люка в Льєжі переїхав до Люксембургу, де продовжив вивчати вже анімацію. Після навчання приєднався до команди «Zeilt Productionє, як дизайнер комп’ютерної графіки. Але свої мрії потрібно здійснювати й у 2018 році він кардинально міняє своє життя та починає працювати разом із Карбон над банде дессіне «Музична скринька», яке вже на сьогоднішній день нараховує чотири альбоми.

Українською мовою вийшов поки тільки перший альбом мальопису «Музична скринька», який має назву «Ласкаво просимо в Пандорію» («Bienvenue à Pandorient»). Але думаю все попереду, тому давайте нарешті розкажу, про що ця магічна історія.

На свій восьмий день народження маленька дівчинка Нола отримує дивовижний подарунок від свого батька: музичну скриньку своєї матері, якої вже немає з ними. Звідти лунає наймиліша та найчарівніша мелодія, яку коли небудь слухала Нола. Спостерігаючи за скринькою вона помітила те, у що важко повірити. До неї рукою махала якась маленька дівчинка, яка благала про допомогу. Нола незчулася, як виконала прості настанови дівчинки, і зменшилася в розмірах та потрапила у фантастичний світ Пандорії. Тепер вона спробує допомогти своїм новим друзям врятувати їхню матір від смертельної хвороби. Нола дізнається також, що світ, який на перший погляд, здається, чарівним та добрим, ховає багато небезпек, які очікують жителів на кожному кроці. А що вже говорити про людей із зовнішнього світу, яким тут узагалі не місце.

Уже з перших сторінок можна помітити, який акцент буде робити сценаристка в мальописі, бо в неї прекрасне розуміння дитячих емоцій. Тому для дітей, які читатимуть цю історію, відразу будуть зрозумілі внутрішні переживання Ноли та всіх героїв загалом. Спершу Карбон звертає увагу саме на смуток із яким дівчинка споглядає через вікно. Авторка бажає познайомити нас із горем, яке сталося в цій родині та, як ця подія вплинула на них, особливо на Нолу. А вже впродовж усіх наступних сторінок можна легко помітити вир емоцій на обличчі дівчинки: здивування, радість, цікавість, страх та злість.

Звісно, що такого розуміння емоцій героїв не можна було досягнути без художника Жіже, який, крім чудового й чарівного малюнку, постійно акцентує увагу на персонажах та їхніх емоціях. Тому коли дивишся на обличчя Ноли, то точно знаєш, що зараз відчуває ця маленька й добра дівчинка. Загалом малюнок у Жіже досить грубий, а кольори приглушені. І спершу дивуєшся, бо вони не зовсім пасують для дітей. Хочеться більше насиченості й яскравості, бо читати тут його в першу чергу діти. Не знаю, як би виглядав малюнок із більш яскравими фарбами, але у результаті малюнок виглядає все ж таки проникливим та атмосферним. Можливо, це свідомий крок художника, щоби ми більше пройнялися внутрішнім станом Ноли.

На мою думку, важко розказати багато про світ в одному альбомі, тому Карбон намагається знайти баланс між сім’єю, деталями світу Пандорії, рухом сюжету вперед та відчуттями головної героїні та її супутників. Але якщо про магічний світ ми, скоріш за все, дізнаємося більше в наступних частинах, то якраз сторітелінґ тут трохи постраждав. Особливо на початку історії. Таке враження, що ми бігли семимильними кроками, щоби тільки потрапити в Пандорію, а далі все трішки уповільнюється й набирає той темп, який мені загалом здався прийнятним.

Ще потрібно згадати про саме українське видання, адже воно має свої цікавинки та особливості. Звісно воно великого розміру і звісно у палітурці. Але також позаду має лаковане покриття силуету голови Ноли, а ось спереду узагалі щось неймовірне, малюнок втиснутий усередину із лакуванням. А усі листочки, гілки й трава є рельєфними. Воно виглядає дуже смачно.

Підсумовуючи, скажу, що це справді чарівна та магічна історія, яка не тільки зможе захопити вас незвіданим світом Пандорії та цікавими пригодами Ноли, а допоможе вам чи дітям зрозуміти багато цінного, що важливе для формування особистості. Горе, радість, співпереживання, дружба, відповідальність, сила волі — це речі, які ви можете знайти в цьому мальописі. А після прочитання, точно виникне бажання дізнатися більше про новий світ та героїв «Музичної скриньки». І, звісно, насолодитися малюнком талановитого художника Жіже.

Je lis rarement des BD; pas par manque d'intérêt, mais par manque de connaissances. Celle-ci m'a beaucoup plu! J'admire l'originalité du monde merveilleux dans lequel évolue la jeune et courageuse Nola, qui entre dans une boite à musique pour venir en aide à l'amie de sa mère dans un monde secret. Elle tentera d'ailleurs de recueillir des informations sur sa mère, disparue depuis un long moment, et se liera d'amitié avec des habitants de Pandorient qui l'aideront certainement au fil de sa quête.

Le graphisme impeccablement élaboré propose des images éclatantes et lumineuses, dignes d'un grand film d'animation. J'ai été captivée par le travail du dessinateur, qui illustre à merveille ce récit empreint de magie, d'innocence et d'aventure. Je me régalerai des suites, c'est certain!

Ce premier tome est très prometteur et j’ai hâte d’en connaître davantage sur cet univers riche et travaillé. C’est avec un goût de trop peu que j’ai refermé cette bande-dessinée, quelques planches supplémentaires n’auraient pas été de refus. J’attends déjà le tome 2, annoncé pour septembre, de pied ferme et il me tarde déjà de retourner à Pandorient !

J’ai été envoûtée, avalée par cette BD comme Nola par sa boite à musique !
Ses couleurs et les dessins m’ont tout de suite emballée et j’ai voulu la lire très vite, comme quand on sait qu’on a un petit chocolat unique en son genre et qu’on désire fortement le gouter, mais le savourer en même temps.

Petit mix entre Alice au Pays des Merveilles et Arthur et les Minimoys, l'univers est féerique.
L’histoire se déroule à une vitesse folle, mais puisqu’il s’agit d’une lecture jeunesse il n’y a rien de vraiment surprenant. J’avoue que la grande enfant qui sommeille en moi aurait voulu faire durer cette aventure plus longtemps, mais comme je le disais pour le chocolat plus haut, c’est toujours au moment où on vient de l’avaler qu’on regrette de ne plus en avoir.

La bonne nouvelle, c’est qu’il s’agit d’un tome 1 et que l’on va pouvoir retrouver l’univers de Pandorient.
Une très belle découverte, l’occasion pour moi aussi de faire connaissance avec Carbone et Gijé, les auteurs, qui m’étaient totalement inconnus ! Erreur à réparer au plus vite !

Dès les premières pages, on rencontre Nola, petite fille de 8 ans qui pour son anniversaire reçoit une boîte à musique qui appartenait à sa mère, malheureusement décédée. Mais bientôt elle s'apercevra que cet objet n'est pas ordinaire puisqu'il renferme des personnes minuscules qui lui demandent de l'aide. À son tour, elle deviendra plus petite afin de s'introduire dans son monde qui n'est sans rappeler Alice au pays des merveilles. On y rencontrera des personnages attachants, et un monde tout simplement fascinant.

Très belle découverte pour moi, cette BD est tout simplement magnifique et douce. Une palette de couleur très large, un ensemble très coloré... Peut-être plus jeunesse que ce que je suis habituée de lire, j'ai trouvé que le rythme était trop rapide, j'aurais aimé prendre le temps d'entre dans cet univers si magique et féérique et surtout faire durer l'histoire plus longtemps. Mais au moins, je sais que l'histoire se poursuivra puisqu'il s'agit d'un tome 1 et peut-être que l'univers sera plus détaillé dans cette suite.

Wat een toffe strip! Erg mooi geïllustreerd en ook het verhaal, over een fantasiewereld verstopt in een muziekdoos waar zowel mysterieuze wezens als geheimen bestaan, vond ik verrassend goed. Ik ga snel de volgende delen opzoeken!

Depuis le temps que je voulais découvrir cette saga !
J'adore les dessins de Carbone et l'univers graphique et tout simplement sublime.
L'histoire est également intéressante et pose les bases d'une intrigue prometteuse.
On y aborde également (certes en surface) des sujets tels que les couples mixtes et la tolérance.
J'espère que ces thèmes seront plus approfondis par la suite.

Ranskalainen sarjakuva "Soittorasia 1: Pandorientin maailma" (Egmont, 2022) aloittaa uuden fantasiasarjan, jonka taustalla ovat minulle entuudestaan tuntemattomat tekijät Gijé ja Carbonet. Se kertoo kahdeksanvuotiaasta Nola-tytöstä, jonka edesmenneen äidin lahjaksi antama soittorasia paljastuu portiksi Pandorientin hämmentävään fantasiamaailmaan.

Sarjakuva on kauniisti kuvitettu ja itse tarina toimii ihan hyvin suhteutettuna siihen että varsinainen kohderyhmä pitää sangen perinteistä fantasiajuonikuviota kliseisenä.

Lapsille ja eritoten tytöille suunnattua sarjakuvaa on viime aikoina ilmestynyt ihan kivasti, kun tämän lisäksi käännettyjen albumien listalta löytyvät muun muassa Malin Falchin mainio Peikkolaakso ja Giovanni Di Gregorion Sisarukset Gremillet.

Beautiful artwork! The Music Box is a short, lovely and fun story about Nola, a eight year old girl who gets a special gift on her birthday. Somehow, she can be transported to the land inside the snow globe: Pandorient, a land of magical powers, strange creatures and a lot of mystery.

The artwork was a highlight for me - incredibly beautiful and I'm looking forward for the next chapters to come. :)

For her eighth birthday, Nola's father gifts her a precious music box that used to belong to her recently deceased mother. This box isn't like your average music box however. On her first night of using it, Nola discovers a magical place inside the music box, Pandorient. Can Nola help her new friends Igor and Andrea solve the mystery of what, and more importantly who, is making their mother sick?

I definitely enjoyed this graphic novel. The illustrations were beautiful and the story fun, although fast-paced, but I didn't mind that in this book. I really enjoyed the magical world of Pandorient. It wasn't the most original story ever, just about what you would expect to happen in a middle-grade with a magical quest does happen. However, I would still recommend it if you're looking for a quick but fun read with pretty illustrations. I would love reading the next parts of this series as well.
