The corporate slinger Hayden Cole finds himself seeing a different side of the clandestine war over the mysterious island energy source, learns that the some of the warriors have a dark secret, and are anything but human. The legendary slinger Lunatic 8 wages a one woman cyberwar for the resistance, matching the hackers of her corporate rivals program for program in the virtual dreamworld of Massnet, while Hirohito, the deadly cyborg, is unleashed. Hayden and his engineer partner Nibiru begin to question their loyalties as they witness the freedom fighters struggling to stay one step ahead of mercenary death squads.
The streets of the city are full of gun smoke and the wires of cyberspace hum with digital violence as opposing forces struggle over wealth, freedom, and the very soul of the islands in this grim futuristic thriller.
Sean-Michael Argo is an author and independent film producer from the backwood swamps of Arkansas. He writes the kinds of books he likes to read and makes the kinds of movies he likes to watch, so his expanding body of work is a testament to his love of gritty urban fantasy, epic tales of swords & sorcery, horror movies, and the post-apocalyptic wasteland. His films are available on Amazon and presented by Dark Roast Releasing. He spends his time traveling the country for work, making art, and raising his son.
The writing is decent and does a great job of following cyberpunk story conventions, and the characters are interesting, but the author crapped put on the plot driver.
The author also makes poorly thought our slightly unfocused c-level movies and it shows in his writing. Mixing super natural with cyberpunk might be a good idea in the hands of seasoned author with strong story telling skills.....but that is not this guy.
It's clear he is very good at aping the cyberpunk story telling form. And for beginning authors in the field....fair enough. But mimic does not mean creative skill and for allnits good description of mood and self reflection, the story has a slow pace and the idea is just silly.
Like a cowboy riding a T Rex to fight The Enterprise silly.
That's a shame because I was hoping he had the skills of the author of the Fade series....who was Long John Silve Ron the show Black Sails. His fantasy has mood, reflection and intricacies, it's a new take on Detective Fantasy.
But alas this author fails.
I read the first book and the second and just don't have the patience or interest to purchase the third. The pacing is turgid, the concept is silly, the story is predictable, and is just worse as each chapter brings the reader closer to brings us closer to the stupid supernatural center of this thing.

I'm really not even sure now what "technothriller" means, so many sub-genres now.... I remember when it was just "scary" or "sad" or "mystery" haha! But, that's just me and the fact I turned 50 this year and have NO CLUE how that happened!
Anyway, book is great! It's the first in the series I've listened to, and it was thrilling and suspenseful all the way! As I'm a child from the 70's/80's I know enough about today's technology to get by, but not a ton more. I found this fascinating, scary, thrilling, very nicely done. Unique and great enough to make me want to listen to more in the series.
I LOVE Persephone's narration, amazing as always! This is a wild and fun ride, I think people of every age will enjoy it. Fun!

3.75 stars. Audible version. The first book had a good story, but felt like it was only 25% of the way through when it ended. The second book starts of where the first one left off and we learn more about the strange power source and the rebels. It actually takes a weird turn that I wasn't expecting. Still not sure how I feel about it. There was more story and character development in this one than the first, but still feel it was a little short. Not sure how many books are being made, but if they were combined, this would make a better book overall than as individuals. The narration was good and you can hear the slight differences between characters. Well spoken and easy to understand. I received this book as a gift for my honest rating.
