Welcome to this fresh new anthology! Here, you can see raw talent in many forms. I purposely made this first anthology ‘genre-free’ and put as few limitations on it as possible, just so that members of the group could see what could be done. Here, you’ll find super-short ‘flash fiction’ as well as fairly lengthy tales which might serve as the basis of greater novels; you’ll find whimsical fantasy and gritty reality; you’ll find contemporary realism and flowery fancy. You’ll find some writers at the tentative beginning of their careers, and others further along that road. This is a celebration of sorts of the art of writing, the joy of it, the freedom of it. Ours is a lonely job, but a magical one; we are the spellbinders and conjurors of modern times, taking simplistic symbols and combining them in special ways to produce a range of wonderful effects.

I was thrilled to be included as one of the authors in this, the first Inner Circle Writers’ Group anthology. My Sci-Fi story “Walked” was accepted and appears amongst a really interesting selection of stories. All genres are represented here from Fantasy to Flash to Experimental. Some stories are so long they have chapters, others are only a page or two long – so there is no limit to length either! There is truly something here for everyone. While some stories didn’t entirely appeal to me, others were profoundly moving, tugging at every heartstring. Some are quite intense, others playful. One had my jaw on the ground, so amazingly strange was it! There is a wide range of styles on display, some hard-hitting, others gloriously fanciful. It’s a long time since I’ve enjoyed so diverse a collection of stories. Looking forward to more from this group!

Never a dull moment
