Mastiff Security 2: The Complete 6 Books Series

Rate this book
Enjoy the second volume of Mastiff Security series. Romance, Suspense, Mystery...6 Books. No Cliffhangers. More than 1,000 pages :)

Book One
Andres Maldonado's first case requires him to infiltrate one of Los Angeles’ most dangerous street gangs. The assignment forces Andres to live two lives: one as a street thug trying to prove himself to his brothers in the Varrio Nuevo Estrada gang, and the other as a single father raising a nearly two-year-old daughter with the beautiful nanny that has become something of an obsession for him. Her family hates him, and everyone is convinced he’ll get her hurt, including himself. When she’s kidnapped, it seems everyone’s predictions have come true. Can he save her before he completely loses himself?

Book Two
His arm in traction and his life in ruins, he found comfort in only one thing: an old iPod with a Kat Carlisle album downloaded on it. Two years later, Jason Stine is working for Mastiff on a case in which a movie star, Colt Murphy, has become convinced that someone is out to kill him. His first day on the set, Jason discovers that Kat Carlisle is the love interest on the movie. Not only that, but the accidents that were supposedly meant for Colt actually come closer to taking Kat out. Can he save the woman who saved him without losing himself in her completely?

Book Three
Stevie had something to prove. All her life people had pigeon holed her because of her deafness, but she wasn’t going to allow that anymore. She was a damn good security operative and she was going to prove that to her bosses at Mastiff Security if it killed her. The case seemed simple enough: find the person who was stealing confidential client information from a law firm. When all the clues pointed to one associate, she jumped at the chance to take a temporary position as his secretary. That was, of course, until she realized he was her ex-husband—well, should have been ex if he’d ever filed the papers! Was this a second chance at love, or the ruination of her career?

Book Four
A recovering addict, Zeke struggles daily to stay sober. His job at Mastiff Security helps, giving him something to do with all the free time he suddenly had on his hands when he was fired from his job as an undercover narcotics officer. But he never anticipated meeting a woman like Finley Calloway, a firecracker determined to force him to fail at his job for the first time in his career. It was a simple task. He was supposed to find her and take her back to the mental hospital from which she’d escaped. And he did find her, in record time. But getting her back to the hospital is proving to be a struggle.

Book Five
Orion Jamieson was supposed to protect her, but Caterina Marceau was injured under his care and what happened afterward…it was too dark to think about. When his boss at Mastiff offered him a case in which he was to steal a picture from a paparazzi to protect a client’s privacy, he jumps at the chance. But life is never completely black and white. Sometimes there are gray lines that can be a fertile playground. Can Orion swallow his anger long enough to help a young photographer in trouble? Or is his past just too much to overcome?

Book Six
Wren Ryland, the head of the Los Angeles offices of Mastiff Security, has been searching for her mother’s killer all her life. She became a cop with that goal in mind. And now, Mastiff has opened doors she didn’t think she would ever walk through. And then she found FBI Agent Cormac Delaney, who quickly became her partner in the investigation. But then she was kidnapped and she doesn't know who she can trust.

This is the second volume of Mastiff Security, this time is about the office that Durango opened in Los Angeles, close to his father, and as expected, some of the cases are related to his father and his business. Even if Durango makes a few appearances, the main story is about Wren and her efforts to find the person who murdered her mother, and the other stories are about the people working for her. It follows the line of the previous book in the investigation and the relationship with the FBI agent, but it's original enough not to look like a copy. There are many elements that made the stories interesting and it manages to work together, even if some of the characters and stories are more distant from the main plot, and could even been taken out without affecting the volume.

As most of Glennas Sinclair's books it's hard to stop reading once you start, even if you suspect what's going to happen, and sometimes you already know where it is going, the problem is that it gets repetitive, because even if this is a volume with many books, is treated as if the books were apart, and they repeat a lot, sometimes full pages from the end of one book move to the next one, and it's something you just read and have to read again.

Book 1

Gray is Andre's daughter's nanny, and he has always tried to keep a professional relationship, even if he wants more, the fact that she returns his feelings, but is also afraid of making a move and jeopardizing what they have, plus a family that disapproves of him, only complicates matters for them.

As it usually happens, the book is mostly about communication problems, and there are the usual misunderstandings and a little backstabbing. Even if the characters were a little frustrating at times, the plot was actually interesting and credible, and it had a good resolution for everyone.

Book2

This time is Durango's father who asks for help, he needs them to protect Colt, the star of his new movie, but Jason ends up protecting the co-star Kat, a singer who he admires and who thinks saved his life through her music. In this book the author really pushes it, always pointing to different people as the bad guys, and it ends up being someone else. In a way is good in that it ends up as we never suspect what really is going on, but at the end it ends up being way to complicated.

Book 3

Stevie is deaf and people don't trust her, so she has a lot to prove, when they finally give her a case where she can prove herself, it turns out she has to work with her ex, and it wakes up old feelings she wanted to leave behind. Again, the plot was very twisted and complicated, and again one of those cases where you can't really believe the bad guys could be so stupid. One of the problems I had with the book is that Stevie was trying to show everyone she was capable, but at the end it feels like the one who did all the work was Mika, and she just helped him a little bit.

Book 4

This one was interesting, a woman that was a victim of her greedy husband who sent to a mental hospital to get rid of her, and the operative that has to get her back to her prison. Once again, I felt like the whole situation was made more complicated that it needed to be by the characters, that instead of trying to clear the air starting playing games, and when they finally decided to start communicating with each other, things had gotten complicated. I liked how things were resolved at the end and the relationship between the characters.

Book 5

This book is the one I had more trouble with, mostly because it was hard to understand how two people so different could get along. The setting on this one is again a little weird, in the sense that they go and hire Mastiff Security, but they are not really expecting them to do their work. This one was a little more frustrating than others in that the interactions and situations felt more forced and crazy.

Book 6

I didn't like it. On the plus side, it was very difficult to guess who the bad guy was, but the characters were awful, I lost a lot of respect for Wren and Cormac. Overall, it wasn't that bad, but I didn't like the Stockholm syndrome kind of relationship they had going on for a while.

Book 1
Durango is setting up an office in Los Angeles and ends up hiring a beautiful ex cop Wren Ryland to run the office. Andres Maldonado is an operative working under cover in a gang to recover a Senator’s son. Unfortunately or fortunately he grew up in the gangs. When he was 17 a judge gave him the option of the military or prison. He chose the military. After the military he was a cop before signing on to Mastiff Security. Andres hires Gray Simpson as nanny to his daughter Alyssa. Alyssa’s mother, Michelle, works for the DEA but doesn’t want much to do with her daughter. Gray and Allyssa are very close. Andres has feelings for Gray, but won’t let himself go there as he doesn’t feel he deserves her.

I hated seeing Andres going undercover in a gang when he was in a better place in his life. He was judged unfairly by Gray’s family because of his past. His little girl was a sweetheart, and I had a hard time that her mother didn’t want much to do with her. It was an exciting book that I enjoyed. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Book 2
Jason Stine was in Afghanistan where four of his buddies were killed and he was badly injured in a roadside bomb. When he was recuperating the only thing that got him through was songs by Kat Carlisle. He had never heard her songs until a young candy striped gave him an IPod. He is now working for Mastiff Security. He is assigned to lead a group of security agents to protect Colt Murphy on a movie set as he was getting threats on his life. Jason is shocked to see Kat Carlisle at the set, but she is acting in the movie and singing her songs. As things start to happen on the set, Jason thinks that someone is trying to kill Kat. He makes sure he is with her most of the time to protect her. There are other weird things going on that keeps them all on their toes. Kat and Jason become close and I was so happy to see how their relationship blossomed and what happened at the ending. Another good book in the series that I enjoyed. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Book 3
Mastiff Security is hired by a well known attorneys office to find out who is leaking sensitive information about their customers. Stevie is assigned to go undercover to find out who in the company is leaking the information. After working their a day, she is assigned to a junior partner to be his secretary. She is shocked when she walks into the partner’s office. There is Mika her ex husband she hasn’t seen for years. He is shocked too, but happy as he is still in love with Stevie. But is everything as it all seems? I loved this book as there were twists and turns all through the book. I was also excited to see Stevie and Mika find each other again and find out what had happened in their past. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Book 4
This is another good book. I wish I could sit down and read all day! Finley Calloway is married to Norman Sumner. Finley is a famous screen writer and had married Norman at a low point in her life. Since marrying him she has found out how cruel he is. She made him sign a pre-nup before marrying him and getting into business. After she sells her third screenplay, she can get Zeke out of her company and divorce him. Unfortunately when they go to sign the third contract, she has some weird episode and her husband has her committed to a psychiatric hospital and he has power of attorney. After six months Finley escaped the hospital. Jackson, who she was signing the last contract with, and her husband come to Mastiff Security to get them to help find her. Zeke Maxwell is assigned to the case. Zeke used to work undercover as a cop busting people on drugs. Unfortunately he takes drugs “for the job”. And becomes addicted. He loses his job, his wife and his children. He is in recovery and takes one day at a time.

Finley is a fascinating woman hat is full of spunk and fire when she doesn’t have depression drugs in her. Her husband is only interested in her money and will do anything to get rid of her. She just has to convince Zeke to help her and not take her back the the mental hospital. The book was exciting and I had so many feelings reading the story. I strongly encourage you to read the book.

Book 5
Orion owned his own security firm and was protecting Supermodel Caterina Marceau. The paparazzi were after her to get picture of her with no makeup. The two in the car chasing them, caused them to wreck and messed Caterina’s face up and then took pictures of her. Caterina ended up killing herself. Orion hated paparazzi after that.

It is a couple of years later and Orion is working for Mastiff Security and is asked to find some pictures a woman paparazzi took of an actor. Orion finds Jane who took the pictures and pretends he wants to learn about taking pictures for money.

The story is exciting and has a lot of action. I hated seeing what that actor did and how his producer tried to cover it up just because he was a big draw at the movies. I liked seeing how Jane showed Orion another side of someone who had heart about taking the pictures. It was another good book in this set.

Book 6
Through this whole set of books Wren has been trying to find who killed her mother years ago. Cormac Delaney who works for the FBI is also looking at old serial killer cases that have not been solved. He contacts Wren about her mother’s death and he tells her what he knows. This book was so exciting as I didn’t know if Cormac was really who he said he was, and if he was a good guy or a bad guy. There are so many twists and turns that every time you think you have it figured out, something happens and you are still wondering. This was probably my favorite book out of the set. I strongly encourage you to read the set.

SUPERBLY AMAZING!!!

Book 1

Andres Maldonado was an operative at the Mastiff Security LA branch. He was given the assignment to infiltrate one of Los Angeles' most dangerous street gang (Varrio Nuevo Estrada). He had to prove himself to his street brothers and raise his two-year-old daughter Alyssa.

Living a double life wasn't easy but his daughter's nanny Gray Simpson sure made things easier. Speaking of the beautiful and smart woman who got under his skin. Everyone were convinced he would hurt her including himself.

So when she got kidnapped, Andres moved heaven and earth with her brother Robert and his co-workers to find her. He vowed to make those who touched her regret their actions.

Gray and Andres finally admittes their feelongs to each other and vowed to never let each other go again, no matter what.

Book 2

Jason Stine, a former Srmy Rangers sergeant and a Mastiff operative nearly lost everything two years ago. The only thing that pulled him out of the abyss was an album by Kat Carlisle. Now he found himself taking a case where he would literally come face-to-face with the woman who'd saved him.

Kathleen Adams aka Kat Carlisle was working on a new movie as the love interest of the movie star, Colt Murphy. The latter was convinced someone was out to get him so the producer Jackson Chamberlain hired a bodyguard.

Jackson's son happened to be be the founder of Mastiff Security, Durango Masters. She'd never seen a bodyguard quite like the sexy as sin, Jason Stine.

The incidents surrounding Colt seemed to be getting closer to putting her in harms way. Let's just say that Jason wasn't about to let anything happened to Kat.

What they didn't know was that the real target was Jason. Someone put a hit out on him cause he was getting to close to Kat.

Love how the relationship between Kat and Jason grew. They were each others' muses. Gray and Kat together was a treat, they could become best-friends.

Turned out the culprit was someone both the lovebirds knew.

Book 3

Stevie Wayne a deaf Mastiff operative who had something to prove. She was a great operative and she hated the way people treated her with baby gloves. She was on a case where someone was stealing confidential information from a law form.

All the clues were pointing at one of the associates, so she took the temporary job as his secretary. Only to realize that the man was her not so ex-husband, Mika Harris.

Stevie and Mika were high school sweethearts, they got married right after they graduated. The lost of their son William was a tragedy. One that tore them apart. Now 11 years later they found themselves back in each other's orbits.

They worked things out, Stevie's case took an unexpected turn. Both husband and wife were in danger. They were framed. Thanks to an amazing teamwork, Mika, Stevie and the Mastiff Security members caught the culprit.

Mr and Mrs Mika Harris got their second chance at happiness.

Book 4

Zeke Maxwell, a recovering addict who was struggling with staying sober. He was fired as a narcotics officer now he worked as a Mastiff operative. He was assigned a case that was simple. He had to track down a woman by the nane of Finley Calloway and bring her back to the mental hospital she'd escaped from.

Finley Calloway, a screenwriter and a friend of Jackson Chamberlain. She had a breakdown six months ago while she was in a meeting with Jackson. She was placed in an asylum.

Now that she'd escaped, she was going to prove that her good for nothing "husband" drugged her. But in order to do so, she needed Zeke's help. They grew closer and together they got the evidences they were seeking.

It was grest to see them both get a chance at happiness after the hell they went through in the past.

Book 5

Orion Jamieson was supposed to protect Caterina Marceau, but she was injured on his watch. The aftermath was too painful to think about. When his boss asked him to take a case where he had to steal a picture from a paparazzi to protect a client's privacy. He took it but things weren't as simple as he thought they would be.

Jane McKinney, a painter turned paparazzi who took a compromising photo of an upcoming actor, Sam Porter. She heard rumors about the actor's drug addiction and wanted proof.

Turned out what she stumbled upon was far more sinister than anything she thought possible. She found herself in danger but Orion was there to make sure no harm came to her. They found love amidst all the chaos.

Book 6

Wren Ryland, the head of the Los Angeles Mastiff Security offices, has been searching for her mother's killer all her life. Now she had more resources than ever before.

She found herself working with a FBI Agent by the name of Cormac Delaney. They shared informations even though they both kept some secrets. She was kidnapped and she didn't know who to trust anymore.

Turned out Cormac was the one who took her in order to protect her from his mess. He finally shared his secrets with Wren. And together they slayed their dragons.

Love how close the operatives were and how Durango was proud of how well Wren was running the LA branch. Everyone getting their HEA was alluring.

MASTIFF SECURITY VOLUME 2 , the complete series boxset was intriguing and mind-blowing. Another great job by Glenna Sinclair. Two thumbs up and a recommendation for you guys to grab this boxset.

I read the entire 6 book series. It's often difficult to review a combined set because some books are better than others, and this holds true for Mastiff Security 2.

I liked books #1, 2 & 4 the best. The characters had good emotional connections and their scenarios seemed reasonable. Book #3 was overly complicated, as was book #5. Book #6 I didn't like at all.

I felt the protagonist, Wren, was foolish and at times I stopped reading because her situations were outrageous. She appeared masochistic to me and I was annoyed with her character. If I were rating book #6 by itself, it would be rated a "1".

Not a bad set of books but some just better than others.

So much goodness

First, I should say that I listened to this collection using the accessibility mode on my iPhone. If there are typos or word usage errors like pass or past, it doesn't interrupt the story for me, because the words pretty much sound the same. So, I can't speak to errors.

What I can say is that this is amazing set of mystery/thrillers that have a great romance element.

I enjoyed this series. Each book had characters who were complicated and unique. I found it incredibly interesting that one of the character's story was interwoven throughout each book and resolved in the final book. I would have been so disappointed if there had been no resolution to that particular story. Great job, Ms. Sinclair!!

Good plots!

Mastiff Security 1&2 are the best of this author's books/ bundles to date! The plots are intriguing and the sex is hot. I still think her books could use better proofing/ editing, but it's not bad enough to detract from the stories.

Too many books in package

Enjoyed the first 3 books, but enjoyment declined as the dark themes increased in last 3 books. I completed the series with determination, but it is unlikely that I will read more from this author.
