When Darcie and Madison’s short but sweet teenage romance comes to an unexpected end, neither think they will see each other again. But ten years later fate intervenes, bringing them together again to face a common goal - Madison’s company needs rescuing after a recent scandal- and Darcie is the one who can fix it. As the women spend more time together, they soon realise there is more to their breakup than either thought. With a past nemesis back in the mix, can they finally find the happiness they both deserve?
While Jade Winters has been putting words together since she was a child, it wasn’t until 2010 that she became a serious writer. Today, as a full-time author, she has published four novels in the lesbian fiction genre as well as several short stories. Jade was born and educated in London where she studied journalism for three years at a London University. She is the youngest of 6 children born to a Nigerian father and English mother and blames her love of spicy food on her African heritage. Jade now makes her home in Dorset in the South of England with her partner and furry companions Zorro, Buttons and Zeus.
This is my the second book by this author, the first one was «Say Something». Both stories have their beginning when the main characters were teenagers and in love with each other. But fate and circumstances have brought them apart.
After ten years apart Darcie and Madison meet again when Madison is looking for a PR Agency which should bring her uncle’s business on track again. Both women still have feelings for each other after their sudden separation at the shared foster home. With the feelings awaken again, the ugly past raises his head too.
The characters are likable, but I wanted to know more about what they did and accomplished in the last ten years. Also, the story is a little bit too predictable for my liking. There is a lot of misunderstanding and doubt and the opponent plays an unfair game. In addition, comes a somewhat rushed ending.
2.5 The Writing and the lot idea was good but the implementation not so much. The characters were likeable but nothing too in depth development and the ending was far too rushed. The miscommunication felt imposed and the problem should have been easily solved by these two. The plot was promising but I expected something else as I started reading it and was a little disappointed how the story progressed.
Can love survive in your heart when you're separated for ten years? Madison and Darcie were young and in love. Life stepped in and they were separated. Now adults, they find each other and are about to find out if ten years is enough to weaken true love! I really enjoyed this story by Jade. A quick read that had a few twists along the way.
When ever I see a new book by Jade Winters, I know that I will like it. She hasn't wrote a book that I didn't like. With this novel (The Second Time), she has portrayed Darcie and Madison as teenage lovers in the foster care system that encounter problems . After being apart for 10 years, they both have trust issues to overcome. So, read this novel and you won't be disappointed.
I thought the story was alright, it was very predictable. The characters annoyed me a little too, it seems they didn’t learn from their past at all, if anything they were stuck in the past. Especially with the lack of any communication and assumptions that one is out to get the other.
It was an ok book. Not brilliant, not terrible. A little too predictable for my liking.
The book begins with a prologue that tells the story of how the two MCs became teenage lovers while living in the foster home, both being bullied by another resident. Then Darcie suddenly leaves the home without saying goodbye to Madison and giving her no way of getting in contact.
Ten years later, Darcie is the co-owner of a p.r. firm in London that is trying to get a large contract from a hotel company to help deal with a scandal they experienced about the treatment of staff at the hotel in Thailand. Unbeknownst to Darcie, Madison is the niece of the company's owner and a top executive there. Because Madison has had surgery to get rid of an ugly scar on her face caused by a car accident and has changed her hair, Darcie doesn't recognize her at first and when Madison tells her who she is, Darcie is angry.
There's a reason for that anger that involves the bully who re-emerges in the present day story as well.
What I liked about this book is that it's a second chance romance, my favorite trope. The sequence of events kept me involved (will Darcie get the contract? what about the romance? will the bully get her comeuppance?) up through the end. The 4 star rating has to do with the fact that some of plot points are far-fetched and strained credibility. Would the bully really emerge as the Darcy's chief competitor for the contract? Would her insinuations about each of the MCs really be believed by each of them? Would 26 year old Madison really be ready to be a top executive of a hotel chain?
Suspending disbelief is the best way to enjoy this book.
Just like with all of Jade Winters books, I read this in one sitting AGAIN!! I found it difficult to put down, it's one of those stories that capture your attention right from the start, leaving you wanting to know what happens next. Tbh as much as I want to tell you what it's about, I know I'll just spoil it. So I'll leave you with this...
The Second Time is a book about hope. Hope in always believing & hope in always loving.
I liked, how the roles of the two main characters converted from the past to the present. First, teenager Darcie is in the more powerful position, being some kind of protector for her friend and then first love Madison. And ten years later it is Madison, who seems to be in charge of Darcie’s fate.
Both characters are sweet and loveable, both are also very insecure, which makes the story interesting.
Have you ever wondered about the one who got away? Where are they now? If you had a chance to do things over? This is the dilemma Madison finds herself in. Can she win back Darcie? But as you know life is never easy. Read their journey. What's to be will be. I love this author. Hopefully, you will too.
I usually like every thing Jade Winters writes, this book dragged for me. I thought this was about second chances. It felt to me that Darcie and Madison didn't trust each other.
Another fantastic read by one of my favorite lgbt authors. Her stories always suck me in and keep me reading into the early hours of the morning. Will definitely be reading more.

I loved it, totally awesome love story. I literally couldn't put it down until I finished it. So glad Madison didn't give up on Darcie and figured it all out!
