Mark Dawidziak has long been the champion and torch bearer of our favorite intrepid reporter Carl Kolchak. Picking up from where creator Jeff Rice, Mr. Dawidziak give us a follow up story to the Nightstalker show.
The novel offers a clever retcon of the timeline. This novel picks up after the final Episode of the tv show (The Sentry). The events of the show now took place in the 80s. Instead of serving in WWII and Korea, Carl is now a veteran of Vietnam and living and working for a third rate paper in 90s L. A. When a notorious Real-estate mogul is found dead, Carl is on a case that will take him of all places to Ohio.
The story is full of suspense and respectful to the characters and lore of the show. All the favorites from Vincenzo, Updike, Miss Emily, Gordy the Ghoul, to lesser known characters like Janie Carlson make an appearance. If your a fan of Kolchak what what are you waiting for? If I they ever reboot the series again, this is the story I would like to see adapted.

Shockingly good. This book was as good as any episode of the Night Stalker and was also just as good as any of the Kolchak stories and books I've read, including the original Jeff Rice novels. The storyline has been done before I admit, but this book managed to present it in a new way. It also dealt with some very disturbing folklore which I had never heard before.
I would consider this book a MUST for any fan of the Night Stalker, or even the X-Files, and I think any horror fan in general would enjoy it.

It took me a great many years to find this book. I read about in magazines and haunted the local Waldenbooks. They never got it and were unable to order it.
It was a small publisher and a limited print run. They planned more novels, but none ever appeared.
I found it about three years ago on a used book site and ordered it. About fifty bucks I think.
I loved it though. Dawidziak, a noted fan of the character, perfectly captures the voice of Kolchak.
