Now, five years later, the past has come calling. Life’s presented Abby with an even bigger challenge: one that will test her capacity to forgive . . . or force her to close her heart forever. 4.5 stars. I really loved this book. Others have summarized the plot, so I won't do that here. But I wanted to list some of the things I enjoyed.

The story is set in the suburb of Hazel Green. There is a nice supporting cast of characters, each with their own challenges, and I am hoping for more stories in this setting. I liked seeing the town too - the carnivals, markets, etc.

The main character was strong - she was determined to do what was right, and so focused on being a good mother. I really liked her.

I loved the theme of family in this book too - and it did such a good job of showing how much a 5 year old child can impact the lives of those who love her.

My review may be harsh. But right from the get go in this book, I was confused. The writing style didn't do it for me. I felt like it was oscillating between 1st person and second person.

I also don't fancy books where you are thrown too many secondary characters from the start. In chapter one alone, we are thrown Mathilda, Nev, Liz, Nell, Charlotte, Iris, Frank, Jocelyn... Too much too soon for me.

Moreover, I found that the quaint small town world the author tried to create didn't really materialize. All those social events seem too easily contrived and didn't really enrich the story.

I think what killed it the most for me was that there was ZERO chemistry between both MC. At first of course, she hated him (and for good reason). So throughout, we have no indication of his attraction to her, or hers to him. But when she began to let go of her anger, all of sudden they kiss...HUH?

Just didn't float for me.

"One Fine Day" is a cute story about love redeemed. I like how the story began with the main character, Abby, offering to be a surrogate for her best friend, Jonah, and his wife, Victoria. While this section had promise it was meager. There was no real backstory to their relationship or how the surrogacy came to be. Then, at a routine doctor's appointment, the possibility arises for the baby to have a disability. Suddenly, Victoria wants an abortion. However, Abby refuses and Jonah remains mum, but ultimately sides with his wife. The story fast forwards to five-years post birth, where Abby has joint custody (with Jonah) of the child, who has no disabilities. As Abby and the child live together in a small town managing a hotel left to Abby by a random relative, Jonah returns to the story as the town's new Chief of Police. In all the years between the office visit of doom and Jonah's return, Abby had no contact with her former best friend, despite his efforts to reach out via old fashioned snail mail. Now that Jonah is living in the same town and divorced, he wants to get to know his child, whom he essentially abandoned for the sake of his wife's sanity. Whilst Abby consents to allow Jonah to get to know his daughter, he does so begrudgingly, for about 30-seconds. The story speeds up not only Jonah's relationship with his daughter, but that with Abby. Jonah is quickly daddy and within two months proposing marriage and buying real estate for the new family he's always wanted but never thought he could have. The story provides little conflict for the main characters as the plot feels rushed throughout the entire book. However, the characters had realistic flaws and the surrogacy story line has some merit to originality. Overall, I found the book cute, but not one I would pick up again for a quick feel-good read. However, I will read the sequel to see how the characters continue to evolve and what other quirks are found in the town of Hazel Green.

Surrogate Drama

Not my favorite book and half way through I realized I had read this before. Friend has baby for hero and his wife. Wife is a totally awful person. I am sorry she went through so much grief with her miscarriage and inability to have a child but being angry at the heroine cause the baby had birth defects was just crazy. She carried it but the eggs were from a donor and the hero. She was just nasty. I was glad they broke up actually. And of course hero comes to see her and there are miscommunications and sadness on both parts but they do get their happy ending with the little girl who turned out awesome. It was a good story.

First of all – full disclosure. I have read the Good Hope series by Ms Kirk and I have enjoyed every one of those books. But, this book is even better than those books.

When I first read the prologue, I felt so much pain. I am sure it would be a small portion of the pain that a mother like Abby would feel in the same situation.

This is a feel good story about people who care for one another, are protective of one another and enjoy living in the small town of Hazel Green. After reading about Hazel Green, I can picture Happily Ever Afters all over the place.

Abby became a surrogate mother for a very good friend, Jonah, and his wife, Veronica. Abby is carrying an egg from another woman which has been fertilized by Jonah's sperm. When the doctor announces that the child will be born with massive health issues, Veronica becomes hysterical and determines the baby should be aborted immediately. Abby refuses.

The story picks up nearly 6 years later. Abby has inherited a small boutique hotel and she now lives in Hazel Green Illinois. This is a small town which has welcomed her by involving her in town activities and using her talents as an organizer. She has 4 very close women friends who give her a true sense of being a part of things. Her life has become though not a perfect life, a good life.

At a town gala, she comes face to face with the new chief of police. It is Jonah.

Abby is a driven woman whose family background led her to become an adult who is determined to succeed at what ever she does. She is intelligent, kind, thoughtful and very caring for the people in her life. Eva Grace, her daughter is the focus of her life. The hotel, her friends, all matter but Eva Grace is the center of her world.

Jonah is a man who carries the burden of guilt with him. His family provided support for Abby when they were children. His parents treated her as though she were a daughter. In short, Jonah comes from a family situation which was everything Abby's was not. He is a good man who finds that he is out of his depth. He does not know how, but he hopes to become a part of Eva Grace's life.

Eva Grace is a force unto herself. She is cheerful, bright, competitive and most of all a typical little girl. She was definitely a highlight of this story.

This is not a simple story. The reader is drawn into a situation which not everyone will face. No matter what choices are made, there will be pain and thoughts of what might have been. Each of us must make choices every day which may have repercussions years in the future. Being able to forgive, being able to understand one another, being able to look at life through other's eyes are all things which may come to each of us.

This is a marvelous book.

I can see that a future series will be a part of Hazel Green and Abby's friends. Each of the women are individuals who face challenges gracefully and yet with power.

All the characters are well drawn and complete.

The plot is very well done. Ms Kirk has created a world that is interesting, entertaining and warm as a grandma's quilt.

I loved this book and once I started, I was unable to stop reading until I was through. That fact played havoc with my list of chores.

I received this book from the author. I am voluntarily writing this review and all opinions are my own.

I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in this book. It's listed on Amazon under "clean and wholesome". 82ish% in and there's a sex scene that does not fade to black and is pretty detailed. This, to me, is not clean and I personally think it should not be marketed as such.

Other content: mild language.

One Fine Day is a story of bad choices, second chances, absolution & forgiveness. Jonah & Abigail have been friends forever. His family was the same as hers throughout their childhood. It was that sense of family that had Abigail agreeing to be a surrogate after Jonah's wife, Veronica, had several miscarriages & their adoption attempt fell through. When the child was found to have a possibility of severe birth defects, Veronica said there would be an abortion or no support payments. Abigail couldn't fathom going through an abortion when the doctors weren't 100% certain of the defects. She just didn't know that by saying no to the abortion she was going to loose her entire support system.

Five years later, Abigail is running an in. She's inherited in Hazel Green, Illinois & her daughter, Eva Grace is doing well. Jonah, now divorced from Veronica, has taken a job as Sheriff in order to try to reconnect with Abigail & see how the daughter he never acknowledged is doing. He wants to regain his standing in their lives. EvaGrace has no idea who he is. Can Abigail open her heart to him despite the past hurt? Will she allow Jonah to know his daughter?

From the first heartbreaks by moment, Abigail had my sympathy. The descriptive prose brings her heart ache, hurt & disillusionment to the reader's heart. It took a lot of courage & love for her daughter to open her heart & mind to what could be. The relationship between Abigail & Jonah was always strong but neither had the courage to acknowledge it when they were young. Would they now? The characters were perfect. Abigail was a strong, independent, lovely woman through character & necessity. Jonah was more loyal, patient & giving than his past actions showed. This was a lovely start to a new series.

Thanks to Kindle Press for the ARC!

Just by seeing the cover, I knew this book would be extremely cute and I probably would enjoy it. But actually, for my surprise, the adorable Eva Grace wasn't the only reason that made me like it.

Abby has a very strong personality. She wanted to help her friend Jonah and his wife, Veronica, serving as a surrogate mother. But, when the doctor tells them that the baby wouldn't be able to move her arms and legs, they decide not to continue the pregnancy. Abby doesn't agree with that. Even though she's not the biologycal mother, the baby was inside her belly and no one could force her to abort if she didn't want to. She thought that Jonah would help her. She thought he would be there for his kid, even if they weren't a couple, even if his wife didn't want to be a mother anymore. After all, they were good friends. But, for her total disappointment, he left her alone.

So, Abby was a single parent. She did everything she could for her daughter, Eva Grace. Luckly, after years of treatment, the little girl is completely healthy, like any other kid. And then, Jonah comes back in the picture. He wants forgiveness. He wants to be in his daughter's life. Does he deserve that?

It makes you reflect on your principles. What would you do if you were Abby? Would you have the baby? Would you forgive her father, even though he wasn't there when you needed him the most? Is the rest of Eva Grace's life more important than those five complicated years? When you see the sweet cover, you probably don't imagine that this child was born paralyzed. But then, when you read her story, you realize it's not so easy to answer these questions.

It's not my place to judge parents who decide to terminate pregnancies when they know the babies won't be healthy. I think we all have reasons to do the things we do. I don't know if I would be brave enough to do what Abby did, especially knowing that I would be completely alone in this. But I admire her decision and I wish more stories had happy endings like hers.

After reading many mysteries and thrillers I was in a mood for a feel-good love novel. I was very lucky to come across this heartwarming book.

Abigail Fine and Jonah Rollins have been friends since an early childhood. When Abby's mother passed away, Jahan's family accepted Abigail as one of their own. Therefore years later, when Johan and his wife went thru many failed options to have a child - Abby offers to be their surrogate. Everything in life comes with a challenge. During the pregnancy, a doctor informs the future parents of child's possible defects and/or health issue. Jonah's wife makes a decision to abort the child, but Abby disagrees. As a result, Jonah decides to stand by his wife's side and her decision, leaving Abby on her own, with a child she didn't want nor planned to have.

Six dreadful years later, Abby finds herself in a very happy place. She runs an inn in a historic suburb town of Chicago, Hazel Green. It was always her dream to run her own business. And her five eyers old daughter, Eva Grace, is happy, healthy and charming little girl.

Jonah's unexpected arrival into Hazel Green takes Abby back to the hurtful time six years ago. Jonah determined to make things right this time around. He wants to be a part of his daughter's life and make amends with Abby. This time is up to Abby to make a decision. Will she find a forgiveness in her heart and press a reset button on her and Jonah's relationship?

"One Fine Day" is a bittersweet story about friendship, forgiveness, love and second chances.

P.S. This is a first book of the series. I am very excited to read more about wonderful characters of charming town Hazel Green.

Abigail Fine decided to help her friends by becoming a surrogate for their first baby. But, when things don’t go as planned, she’s left to raise the special needs daughter on her own. Abigail wouldn’t have it any other way. Jonah Rollins has regrets about leaving Abigail to raise his child on her own. Five years later, he wants to know his daughter and find some happiness. Will Abigail let him forge a relationship with the daughter he never knew? Can Abigail forgive him and release the past to find love again?
Ms. Kirk has done it again. This is a great start to a new romance series full of great characters, an intriguing plot, and a satisfying ending. I love how the author shows the characters dealing with sensitive issues and problems, and how they forgive the past and each other to forge a better future. Reading one of Ms. Kirk’s books is like going on the best romantic vacation ever. I can’t wait to read the next one! Kirk grounds her romance in tragic life circumstances, providing a counterweight to swift stories of falling head-over-heels. In One Fine Day, the dramatic elements almost tip the scales toward tragedy too far for a standard romance. The ethical dilemma was written in a way that I was sympathetic to all sides. It felt like an impossible situation for them to be in and work through, and when the eventual reconciliation came around, I didn’t feel quite ready. That said, it has had me thinking for days, which is different from most romance novels.

The characters are enjoyable, the community is charming, and the romance is exciting. I’m looking forward to more tales from Hazel Green.

A great book, from the first page I was hooked. The story is about past friendships and trust. All the characters were so believable and I liked the strong personalities of those I met whilst turning the pages.
Abby becomes a surrogate mother for a friend, complications ensue and the deal is off. This is the story of Abby and what she achieved in the first five years of her daughters life. The friend she thought she lost, comes to town to regain her trust and they both get so much more.

I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher; however all opinions in this review are my own.

Abby and Eva Grace set out on a life all their own until the new police chief comes to town when Abby is faced to deal with life’s hard lessons and the “family” she believed abandoned her when she needed them most. Would you really do something different earlier in life if it lead you to a different place now? The theme hits throughout all the characters as the plot unravels through the pages.

The story is beautifully written and allows the reader to relate to all of the “do overs” that one thinks about in life as each of the characters is introduced in Hazel Green. One of the best parts of this novel, like all of Cindy Kirk novels, is outstanding character development. The stories are written in such a way that you not only enjoy the plot around the main characters but you want to learn more and become part of the community.

This is a great book for those that enjoy women’s fiction. It’s the kind of book that you can’t put down and impatiently anticipate the next visit with your fictional neighbors in Hazel Green.

Abigail Fine hasn’t had the easiest of starts in life. She makes the decision to be a surrogate for her best friend in receipt of eternal gratitude and a financial boost to help her along the path of achieving her own dreams.

She does indeed get to fulfil her dreams, with a whole lot extra thrown in alongside it, which is not what she expected for her life. But she wouldn’t change any of it for the world.

Jonah Rollins makes one huge mistake which he will probably regret forever but he is trying everything to make it all right and move forward with his life. The question is, will all of his efforts pay off in the end?

This is the first of any of Cindy Kirk’s books that I have read and I have been pleasantly satisfied with the read. This was a heart warming and easy going read and it’s been a while since I’ve read a book like this so it was a nice change. I wouldn’t say that I was hurrying to get through to find out the ending, as once you start, you quickly figure out where the story is going to go. That said, I still wanted to read the whole story to follow the journey to the ending.

I’m going to through something out there, a little outside of the box! My favourite character was Nell. I loved the way she was so straight talking, right to the point and doesn’t pack any punches. She reminded me of myself. The last few chapters are left on a little cliffhanger regarding Nell, so I can only assume that Hazel Green #2 will follow Nell more closely. I look forward to reading #2 and finding out more about her.

So to conclude, I gave One Fine Day a solid 3 stars. Although I enjoyed the book and found it pleasant, it didn’t rock my world so to speak. I’d perhaps recommend this as a chilled weekend read when you don’t have the brain capacity to think about anything too deep.

One Fine Day by Cindy Kirk a four-star read you won’t forget. I hadn’t read anything by this author before but had heard really amazing things so I was excited to read it as the people who talked about the author spoke with passion and reverence, maybe I was expecting too much I don’t know, I enjoyed the overall story and the writing and found it to be a compelling read at times, but at the same time, there were parts I was wondering why they were doing things without giving spoilers it’s hard to explain. I can honestly say I would recommend the book even though I haven’t enjoyed it as much as I was expecting as I would give it another go in the future it was mostly well written and I do think a lot of people will enjoy this story. Abby has a story to tell and it’s a very powerful and honest story, it will make you stop and think, and hopefully change the way some people think.

Have you ever read a book that you thought about for days after you finished it?
One Fine Day is a book about friendship, broken promises and a mother’s love for her child. These themes resonated with me and I read Abby and Jonah’s story in one day. Abby and Jonah are given a once in a life time chance for a do over— an opportunity to come to terms with their past and move ahead.
The prologue draws the reader into the story immediately. Abby Fine agreed to be a surrogate for her childhood friend Jonah Rollins and his wife Veronica. Complications with the pregnancy are discovered; the Rollins’ decide to walk away from their special needs child. She is determined to continue with the pregnancy. This decision impacts every aspect of Abby’s life—she is cut off financially and emotionally from the entire Rollins family—she is on her own.
Five years later, Abby is running the Inn at Hazel Green which she inherited from distant relative. She and her daughter Eva Grace are part of the tight- knit Hazel Green community. Eva Grace captured my heart. She reminded me of a doll—blue eyes and curly blond hair. Eva Grace has big personality and her enthusiasm for life jumps off the pages! Abby’s devotion and patience with her daughter shines through in each page of this novel.
Cindy Kirk’s descriptive writing style enables the reader to connect to Abby. I could hear the joy in Abby’s voice when she talked about her child and feel the hurt when she reminisced about Eva Grace’s surgeries. My heart broke when Abby’s thoughts brought her back to the day that Eva Grace was born. Frightened and alone, she reached out to Jonah. I felt her pain and severe disappointment –Jonah never responded to her phone call or her text. I understood Abby’s desire to raise Eva Grace and provide a happy safe life for her. Abby has been there every day for child—through many painful surgeries and sleepless nights. Jonah’s monthly letters to Eva Grace and Abby and the support money he sent in the letters provided a connection between Abby and Jonah. The fact that Abby didn’t read the letters but saved them intrigued me – why did she keep them?
Abby’s ability to put her child’s best interests first and to forgive are tested when Jonah becomes the new police officer of Hazel Green. Her inner strength is tested when Jonah makes it clear that he has moved to Hazel Green to get to know his child and repair his relationship with Abby. Jonah mentions that he wrote to Abby that he had accepted the position in Hazel Green and that he was divorced. He is amazed when Abby tells him that she has not opened his letters.
Cindy Kirk uses the backstory technique to provide insight into both Abby and Jonah’s history. Jonah’s backstory is woven into the story and it allowed the reader to gain perspective on his choices, his situation. Loved the scenes when Jonah explains to Abby what factors led him to side with his wife. This revelation is important as it gave insight into Jonah’s situation and his decision making. The author subtly introduces the idea that not all choices are black and white and that life experiences impact the choices you make. My favorite scene in the book is when Abby decides to read each one of Jonah’s letters—this decision opens her heart towards forgiveness.
One Fine Day has all the feels; it’s an emotional story which tugs at your heart from the first page. The characters are honest and the dialogue is superb—and Eva Grace will capture your heart. The themes of loss, forgiveness and love are told with compassion and humor.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Five years ago, when Abby Fine is faced with the hardest decision of her life, her best friend Jonah abandons her. Being the surrogate for Jonah and his wife, Veronica, was supposed to be easy until they are all faced with a major decision: the fetus has life threatening health issues and the possibility that it will be born severely disabled leaves all three reeling. Despite Veronica stating she would like to save everyone heartbreak and terminate the pregnancy, Abby refuses and watches helplessly as her best friend chooses his wife over her. Five years later, we catch up with Abby and her daughter in the little town of Hazel Green and thriving. Despite the life she has worked so hard to build, Abby still is haunted by the past and Jonah's perceived betrayal. When the new sheriff is hired, Abby will come face to face with the ghost of the past because Jonah is the new sheriff in Hazel Green.

SPOILER ALERT
As I read this newest book from Cindy Kirk, it felt familiar and cozy much like the Good Hope Series. However, while I love the Good Hope, this series left me feeling a little flat. I definitely enjoyed One Fine Day and look forward to reading more about the good people of Hazel Green, but I found myself feeling much more critical of Abby as a character. I recognize in the flashbacks when Abby is reliving the critical doctor's appointment when it is revealed the the baby she is carrying for Jonah and Veronica has possible severe disabilities that Abby is put in a horrible position. Although she is a surrogate, she is carrying the life of a child. It's an impossible choice and not one I would ever care to make. Having two children of my own, I still don't know if I would feel more like Veronica or more like Abby. None the less, I felt that the continuous inner monologue from Abby about the possibility those 5 years ago or terminating the pregnancy as murder really rubbed me the wrong way. On the one hand, I know this is definitely a valid view point, but I felt that the only time the opposite view was even explored was in relation to it tied to how Veronica wouldn't get a perfect baby and that's the only reason she wanted to terminate the pregnancy. This made it more difficult later in the book, when Jonah is divorced and finds out that Veronica attempted suicide, to feel any connection to the characters and it felt flat and one dimensional to me.

I completely support and understand the viewpoint that terminating a pregnancy at a certain point can be viewed as murder, regardless of the medical peril the fetus is in. Honestly, I wanted a bit more out of the ending and was left with more questions than answers about many of the characters. What about Nell and Leo? What was up with the guy looking for Nell? Veronica's nervous break down felt as though it could have been something bigger to give us a better understanding of Jonah, but felt cut short. Ultimately, I am hoping that these are intentional strings left dangling. I look forward to learning more about the characters in Hazel Green and hopefully some more will be fleshed out.

This book has very minimal cursing (no f-bombs) and one sex scene that could be easily skipped if that bothers you. This is the first book of the Hazel Green series but it stands alone and DOES NOT end on a cliffhanger.

The cover for this book is fabulous and perfect – when I saw it I was drawn to it, but the more we got to know Eva Grace, the more I fell in love with it.

This is a really sweet story despite how it starts out. Abby's devotion to Eva Grace was nothing short of beautiful, and as the aunt of a special needs nephew, I was firmly Team Abby and Eva Grace from start to finish. I loved how Abby took care of her and how much she loved that little girl. Although Jonah made a bad decision that was hard to fathom, he never felt like a bad guy, so it was fun to watch his relationship with Eva Grace develop so sweetly and organically. Although the ending felt a bit rushed, I thought it was really great, and the happily ever after was everything I wanted for this little family.

***SPOILERS IN THIS PARAGRAPH ONLY*** The only thing I didn't like about this book was Nell's disgusting and hurtful comment to Abby about terminating pregnancies of children who might be born less than perfect being “humane”. Yes, she attributed it to “some people” to make herself seem less horrible for voicing that thought, but how dare this woman claim to be a good, caring friend to Abby, and yet say something so ignorant and to Abby – the only person who fought to keep Eva Grace from being terminated before she even had a chance to live - of all people? As I mentioned before, I am the aunt of a special needs child who would have been terminated to help “cleanse” the earth of people with special needs had the doctors had their way, but instead he's a twenty three year old, highly productive member of society who has a full and rich life despite the fact that he lives a little differently than most people his age. Her less-than-kind actions previously were off-putting but tolerable, but this comment, and especially it's target audience, turned me off of the character enough that I will not seek out her book.

If you're looking for a sweet, heart-felt read, you should definitely read this book. It will make you smile and give you the warm fuzzies.

I requested and was generously granted an ARC of this book via NetGalley and the publisher, I was under no obligation to write this review.

Cindy Kirk, the author of the Good Hope series, did it again with One Fine Day (Hazel Green book 1 of hopefully countless more). The story begins when Abby agrees to be a surrogate mother for her best friend Jonah and his wife, Veronica. However, they soon find out that their child suffers from spina bifida. Veronica immediately demands that the pregnancy be terminated because she doesn't want a special needs child. Abby decides that she is going to keep the baby herself. When Abby develops pre-eclampsia, the doctor decides they need to induce her a few weeks early to protect the baby. Abby calls Jonah but gets the answering machine. Little does she and Jonah know that Veronica erases the message.

The story skips forward five years and you find out after years of leg braces Eva Grace is a beautiful, blonde happy girl living with her mom, Abby in Hazel Green. Abby is the owner of an inn in Hazel Green and has become an integral part of the Hazel Green community overseeing several committees.

At the town's founder's party, Abby finds out that Jonah has filled the sheriff's position in Hazel Green and will be working alongside her on one of the committees. Unfortunately, Abby's heart is still filled with unforgiveness and hurt and she is quite curt with him. At the party, Jonah tries to apologize to Abby and explain he wants to be a part of Eva Grace's life; however, Abby refuses to let him in.

Abby wants nothing to do with Jonah after he abandoned her and the baby. Jonah, on the other hand, has been writing letters to both Abby and Eva Grace monthly and paying child support. Abby has tucked all of these letters away for Eva Grace but has never opened one of hers.

The strength that Abby musters to raise a special needs child alone is admirable, and I understood why she hated Jonah so much. However, when Abby gets past the hurt and is able to listen to Jonah's side of the story, she understands that he had to make sacrifices just like she did.

Will Abby decide to forgive and allow Jonah to be a part of their lives? Will a love relationship develop or will Abby send Jonah scooting back home? You will have to read and find out yourself.

I have so much love for this book. But first, let me say, even though it deals with some heavy issues it is not an angst filled book.

We get a quick glance at 5 years ago and then we fast forward to the present. The book allows you to feel Abby's pain and worry without being depressing or too heavy. I only felt her strength ... her love for her child ... her wanting to be the best mom she could be.

Abby and Jonah are best friends starting way back when they were just kids. Jonah's family and parents are like a second family to Abby. But it all goes wrong when she agrees to be a surrogate for Jonah and his wife.

Well, from from recap above, you know Abby carries the baby and keeps custody of Eva Grace (side note: I love the beauty of that name). Without giving too much away Abby is a great mom, Jonah has to come to terms with his decision to support his wife even though Abby and his unborn child needed him. I hated the way Jonah's wife Veronica was able to manipulate Jonah and his family to stay away from Abby when she needed them most. I seriously want to read Veronica's story, what was going on in her head when everything she had planned came crashing down.

This is not a "I am right and you were wrong story", but rather, it is a heart warming story of how a person can grow and understand what is most important to them and the power of giving a second chance.

The cast of friends and citizens of Hazel Green, Ill are a fun bunch and I can't wait to get to know them better.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I have read another series Cindy Kirk has written and enjoyed them. When I was asked to review this book in a new series I jumped on it. I believe this book was better than what I've come to expect in the Good Hope series. I thought the characters were well rounded and the plot was a bit different than many of the other love stories I've read. With that being said, once readers begin the book they should have an idea how it is going to end.

This book is an easy read; without a lot of characters to keep straight, which I believe helps the author spend more time developing the main characters into robust people. I liked the supporting characters and while the author didn't spend much time on discussing them, my interests in them were peaked enough to where I want to read the additional books in the series to find out more about them.

This introductory book to Hazel Green was about Abigail Fine, her daughter, Eva Grace, and the man who fathered her, Jonah. Cindy does a great job of bouncing between the characters to tell the story, and show their thoughts and feelings. I believed the characters reacted realistically to unpleasant situations, which oftentimes doesn’t happen in love stories. The setting of a small community outside of Chicago is a place I would love to visit.

I believe this is a great book for someone who enjoys a quick and easy love story with a lot of small town charm.

I definitely consider myself a fan of Cindy Kirk and was really excited to hear that she was starting a new series.
This book did not rank among my favorites of hers but I think that this works well as an entry into a series as it introduces us to a slew of new and interesting characters in a new location. I could have done with less about what everyone wore from different eras all of the time, an attempt at local color that I found more annoying than charming.
The writing was still strong and I loved all of the strong friendships and loyalty displayed among the core group of characters. My main issue though was with the relationship between Abby and Jonah, We are told that they were life long best friends but I never felt any closeness between them. A few times they referenced growing up together but even those stories did not illustrate a real bond other outside of familiarity with Jonah's family. When the romantic feeling started, to me, they came out of the blue and I could not buy into them. It seemed more convenient than heartfelt. I wish less time had been spent in reiterating whether or not Jonah should be held to blame for his past actions and more time had been spent on developing the chemistry between them.
I am still excited to see what will happen next in Hazel Green.

NOTE: I received an advanced reader copy of One Fine Day from the author to provide an honest, voluntary review.

Readers are first introduced to the small town of Hazel Green and all the interesting, well-rounded characters that come along with it in this first book of the series. It all starts with Abigail (Abby) Fine, a strong, independent woman who has inherited a hotel from an unknown aunt. Abby has a 5 year old daughter, Eva Grace, who turns out to be not biologically related to her as Abby had been a surrogate for a couple, Jonah and Vanessa. Jonah was Abby’s best friend for many years and is the biological father of Abby’s daughter. The book starts out with a flash back to 5 years prior when tests show the unborn child could potentially have devastating health issues. Abby is the only one to fight for the life of the baby and must cut all ties with Jonah. When Jonah shows up five years later, he must prove himself before Abby will allow him to spend time with the sweet Eva Grace.

"One Fine Day" is a bittersweet story about friendship, forgiveness, love and second chances. I truly couldn't put this one down and look forward to reading about the other characters more in this series.

I was so happy that Cindy came out with another series of books! I love her writing and I get caught up in the books and read them as fast as I can.

The Hazel Green series has proved to be another series that has me hooked. I loved is nothing like the Good Hope Series. This book is set in the quirky little down that is quaint, but the residents dress up as different eras from the 20's to the 90's.

I found the depth of the characters very intriguing and I was cheering for their happiness. Abby ends up being the surrogate mother to her best friend, Jonah and his wife. The story starts how with a terrible twist that leaves Abby deciding to keep that baby that is not biologically hers as her own daughter.

Twists happen and Jonah finds himself in Hazel Green and wants to reconnect with Abby and finally be a fathers to the daughter he has never met. The story keeps you wanting to know more and builds up the friends in Abby's life, so you know more is coming. Another great book by Cindy Kirk!

I really loved this book! Abby agreed to be a surrogate for her best friend Jonah and his wife after the failed attempts the had with conceiving, and the failed adoption. When they all find out that the baby will be born with a birth defects Victoria wants nothing to do with the baby, and wants the pregnancy terminated. Abby who already feels this baby growing inside her, refuses to go along with the termination. With her refusal she looses her best friend.
Abby decides to race Eva Grace on her own no matter what. It's a ruff couple of first years with surgeries and braces for her daughter. Helping her daughter go through the pain, without any help.
Jonah has regretted turning his back on Abby and his daughter. When he finds himself a job in the same town they moved to he's determined to get to know his daughter. He knows that this will not be an easy task.
How will Jonah be able to be apart of his daughters life? Will Abby allow him to be the dad he knows that he can be?
Hazel Green is a wonderful town, with so many interesting individuals. I can't wait to see who's in the next book! ❤️
