Natasha’s life begins the night she is turned. With the ability to channel fire, a gift that only belongs to the witches, she becomes a terror—not only to the packs, but all the supernatural breeds. She’s known as Blaze. The deadliest vampire out there. But Blaze has a secret. She didn’t want to become a vampire, she needed to become a vampire, and her reasoning is lost. It died the night her human life did. Her conscience activates when two Varcolacs visit the covenant, looking for allies for the Great War.
What was it about the Varcolacs that made her grow a conscience? And will she be able to outrun it to keep the title of terror?

This is the first book by Kristin Ping that I have read. That's all it took for me to become addicted! OMG I cannot wait for the next book. Paranormal fans this is a must read! #witches #vampires #wolves Immortal had me on the edge and left me begging for more. I don't leave spoilers. I recommend this book to all not just paranormal readers. Kristin did a amazing job of drawing me into the story, her writing just flowed and I couldn't turn the page fast enough. You won't be disappointed.
I could not put this book down, I loved everything about it and I wasn’t sure I was going to even like it when I first opened it up and looked through it noticing it went back and forth within time. Most books that I’ve read that do that, they just don’t work. They get all jumbled up and I end up losing characters between chapters and things get lost whether it’s part of the plot, characters, ideas and theories... But with this book, I LOVED everything about it. The timeline worked! It was amazing. I couldn’t imagine this book in any other format. The entirety of the book was rich with this amazing world that Kristin Ping created. It was beautiful and raw and descriptive. There are some books that just fail and this book is far from that. I cannot wait to see more of this series as it continues to grow.
I was both intrigued and annoyed after reading IMMORTAL.
IMMORTAL read like a Novella to me. It seemed like we were learning someone's past and that we should have known their future already, maybe? Natasha was super interesting to me. I didn't always like her, but by the end of the book I only wanted to know more.
The plot was a little all over the place, but it only made me want to keep reading. The pacing is fast and there is a lot of action. This story isn't bunnies and rainbows, there are a lot of dark and bloody moments.
So why could I possibly be annoyed? JUST when things finally start to make sense and we get a little bit of our questions answered it ends. AHHH. Yeah I want to read the next book and I hope I don't have to wait forever for it.
* This book was provided free of charge from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
I remembered the world this was set in from a novella I've read a while ago, Forbidden by Adrienne Woods. There are so many threads that intertwine in this one, and so much confusion because of this. There were many questions answered by the end of the book but it took some brain power to connect everything. I would really want to know what happens in the next books since the end was open.
At first, I struggled to get into the story, probably because it started out with terminology I had no idea about, but the more I started reading the more I got entranced into the story of Sophia and then Blaze. I enjoyed the fresh new vibe surrounding vampires and immortality. There were hidden references to other 'famous' works, which I will let you find out for yourself. The story was fresh to the genre, but I would have liked to find out more about Natasha's past and see more happy endings though. Other than that... Not to bad a read at all.
Just a Vampire...lol,not this time! This book is amazing.Natasha aka Blaze,is a vampire with a special ability to channel fire. She is THE supernatural's equivalent of our Boogeyman! In this book you get hybrids, vampires, werewolves and fey. And to pull it all together you get a love story bathed in blood. If paranormal is your genre this book is for you! Congratulations Kristen Ping , this book is awesome!
amazing!! blaze/Natasha is a superb character with an amazing plot! the storyline is intriguing and engaging. it draws you in right from the first page and keeps you there. before you know it you've read the whole book. I can't wait to read more if what happens to Natasha !!
Immortal: Guardian of Monsters is not your average vampire novel. Immortal is not even your average vampire, witch, and werewolf novel. This novel has its action packed moments, but it is also full of a lot of reflection by the main character, Natasha aka Blaze. Natasha starts life off as a human, but there is something driving her to become an immortal. She never shares this reason with anyone, but she allows it to drive her. She strives to be the best of the Nightlings, but she’s not. The night that her human life ends, everything that she was striving for is erased. Her memories, gone and now she is simply a dangerous weapon of destruction to all who cross her path. With her gift of fire Natasha is renamed Blaze, and she proceeds to rain down terror and death on all around her and her coven. She enjoys what she does. Blaze fears no one, and takes immense joy in the death she unleashes on so many – enemy and coven member alike, until one day…something changes. Immortal: Guardian of Monster by Kristin Ping is book one in her series. This is the first book that I have read by this author and I have to say that I really enjoyed this book. The author pulls me into the story from the very beginning and has me turning pages all the way to the end. I’m curious about Natasha’s story, but the story doesn’t just focus on Natasha. The story touches on Cassandra, Sonia and others as well. The story progresses forward while at the same time reflecting back and filling in the gaps for us as well. Overall, this is very well done. I like that the story does not suffer from this, because I was worried that the story would become hard to follow and understand. This is not the case, so I applaud the author for that fact. This is a very curious story, I have to say. We set lies, deception, manipulation and so much loss and destruction throughout the story. Cassandra is trying to build an army for a Great War that she believes is coming and she is willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish her goal. In her eyes, Natasha is a weapon to be used. There are several heartbreaking moments in this story for characters that we come to know and like, and ones that we know nothing about. There are honorable moments, and moments of complete manipulation and evil. While this story is well written, it is not without its flaws. There are several editorial issues throughout this story. There are places of where words are missing in sentences that can throw you off a bit as you are reading. For me, there were also a few sentences that I had to reread to fully understand properly what was being said. I will admit that I was disappointed somewhat with the ending. I was expecting more, or at least a revelation, but that is not the case. Since this book is part of a series, I’m hoping that the author will eventually tie all the stories together into an epic conclusion that will answer all questions that I’m sure others will hold as well. All in all, I am rating this book 4.5 out of 5 stars. I’m taking off half a star for the editorial issues. While I don’t feel that there is really anything about a “Guardian” in this story, it is a fascinating novel to read. I practically devoured this book in a day, so you know that there is something special to it. Blaze is an engaging character, but the story does not ride on her alone, which I liked. There is some romance in this novel, but it is not the main focus. There are some sexual situations, but the author never goes into detail. So for those who try to avoid those situations in books, should really have no problems with this story. As I stated at the beginning of my review…this is not your average vampire novel. This novel is different and unique and for those who choose to delve in…I believe that you will enjoy.

Immortal: Guardian of Monsters is a supernatural fantasy novel which revolves around Natasha, a vampire who has a special ability to control fire, an element which typically destroys her kind. She is a member of a coven which is run by her lover who basically uses her as a killer for hire. I wasn't sure what the guardian in the title was referring to because she wasn't doing much guarding. I honestly couldn't figure her out as a character. One minute she's this hard core, cold-hearted killer and the next she turns into a depressed, pathetic woman who holes herself up in her room when the world isn't going her way. At the beginning of the book, she's a lesbian who has never been with a man or had an interest being with a man. By the end of the book, she's over that. One section in the beginning of the book doesn't even focus on her and it wasn't clear to me why the author chose to develop that storyline as much as they did. There might have been something there with the whole war between the werewolves and the vampires, but Natasha's incessant whining and depressed state just distracted me from that. Recommend the author try to work on Natasha's character development a bit more and focus more on who she is personally. Seems like she has been to dependent on others for too long.
Having never read Ping's work before I wasn't sure what to expect but it was fantasy/paranormal - my genre
The first few chapters I had to read a couple of times to fully understand what was happening. Once I got the rhythm I was a goner! The storyline jumps between the present and the past. The author sets up a strong foundation for the running plotline and by the end, I was comfortable with the factions, some of the myths and was following the clue trails with eager abandonment- Seriously I was bummed I only had book one at the time - I probably would have read the series through However, by the end even with some of the reveals (oh, and some biggies were revealed) so many secrets still remained. The story is fast-paced and a lot is going on but it does all tie together really really well at the end - this is a series so it is to be continued - not really a cliff hanger
Our main character Natasha has so many facets to her and I have so many questions about her. The secondary characters are so well written. Each brings something to the story that is essential - not just fluff The story itself is full of action and little nuggets of suspense
If you enjoy strong storylines that take place in uniquely crafted universes Vivid characters that capture your heart (or turn your stomach) This is for you
I dropped this one star because there are a few editing issues
Immortal: Guardian of Monsters (Varcolac Novel Book 1) is a fascinating read. Typically I'm not too fond of books that jump from the past to the future as a means to not only give context but to develop characters. However, in this story, it works. It gives us insight into the characters and helps to explain current-day actions in a way that makes everything come together. It also makes sense as vampires emphasize that time means nothing to them. The characters are also quite interesting as we are introduced to Varcolocs, a new hybrid of supernatural beings thought to be a myth. There is an awesome mix of beings in this book, including powerful witches, vampires, werewolves, djinns, and shifters. Some of the supernatural beings' powers are quite extraordinary and become important weapons as the battle between good and evil wages on. I read this book pretty quickly as there is a lot of drama, romance, supernatural action, some surprising twists, and a very intricate storyline that will continue to play out in future books. This book ends with a few teaser chapters from the next book in the series entitled Mine Immortal: Guardian of Monsters (Varcolac Novel Book 1). Those chapters were enough to make me want to purchase the book.

Immortal was a good read, but I wish I could say it was an awesome read.
The story started out steady with different points of view, but... it was hard to tell whose POV. For example, one chapter belongs to Sonia because it stated so, but the next chapters does not state so until you read the first sentences or paragraph, so if the new chapters do not state who the POV belongs to just assume that they belong to the current character until stated otherwise. Character-wise, they were not as in-depth. Example: we know Sonia's and Cassandra's backgrounds, but not much of Alexander's and Leighandra's.
What bugged me the most was that when we finally find out Natasha's reason/memories, the book ends shortly after. It's anti-climatic and disappointing. I just hope the next book is more.
On a more positive note, I liked Immortal. I have high hopes for the series. Immortal is pretty dark; not a quick unicorns and rainbows book. Hopefully, in the next book, things will get better for Natasha.

This was such a sad story about Natasha’s life. Natasha has a need to be turned into a vampire. She has to live forever. But as soon a Cassandra, the coven leader, turns her she can’t remember her previous life. Cassandra has wiped her memories in order to use her because Natasha has special ability. Flames come out of her hands and she can torch anything. For years and years Cassandra uses her, and turns her into an unfeeling killing machine. She kills werewolves and even other vampires if she gets angry or they betray her. She even ends up killing a friend from her past but she doesn’t remember her. And then something happens to change her and she just wants to die. But Cassandra still wants to use her and forces her to live. And for decades Cassandra lets other supernaturals believe Natasha is still responsible for all of the killings that have continued, so now everyone is coming for Natasha to kill her. Can she ever recover her lost memories and remember why she wanted to become a vampire before she loses her life? I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review
Natasha needs to become a vampire, but after she is turned she does not remember the reason. As the years pass after her turning, she becomes less and less of who she used to be and more fearsome and dangerous to those around her. Her powers make everyone scared, and people are afraid that if they get close to her, they will meet a very unwanted and violent end. This fear means that she does not have very many true or strong connections to other people. Until someone comes to her master looking for an ally in the coming war, and the two of them have an instant connection. I really enjoyed reading this book and for the life of me could not put it down from the minute that I picked it up. The book is full of mystery, adventure and heartbreak, and the writing style is phenomenal and really well thought out. I am really glad that I got the opportunity to read this book and am looking forward to reading the continuation of this novel.

I actually read books 2 and 3 before this book. So, for me, this book was like a blast from the past for the series. I felt I was blindsided by the same-sex relations of Cassandra and Natasha. I would hope authors were thoughtful enough to let readers know of things like that in their book so readers have a choice of the content they want to ingest. The other books were not like that, so I didn't think this one would be any different. There were also editing issues that an editor can easily fix. I felt that there was a good storyline, but there were things that could have been fleshed out more. I understood the issues Natasha had with herself, but at times, it felt like it was being dragged out too long. I found myself skimming parts. The story has many different points of view. It also jumps from past incidents to the present, and they are labeled. I had lots of questions after the end; questions that were not answered in the other books. I received a free copy from BookSprout. My review is my own opinion. 2.5 stars
Natasha needs to become vampire. She is not a good candidate right up until she displays an affinity for fire. Then her tormentor and coven leader turns her, and her memory of being human is gone. Twisted and sadistic, her fire gains her an awful reputation as she targets the wolves and steals their children for her maker to build an army. When 2 hybrids come to the covenant, her reign of terror is but a memory to her as she has retreated into herself after a traumatic occurrence. With freedom within her grasp, some of her past makes itself known. This book was gritty, dark, bloody with no relief from the suffering of literally everyone. Every happy moment was crushed by Natasha, which made me drop stars. Several unfinished plot holes were aggravating. I also have a problem with the title. "Guardian"? Of what? There are no guardians in this book, at all. Supremely misleading title for an out of control killer by fire. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book from Netgalley.
This long awaited book definitely didn't disappoint! The world that the author has created is unique and very interesting. You've got vampires, werewolves, djinn, witches, and halflings called Varcolacs. I loved how the werewolves are described and could picture them so clearly in my head. While the story is told from several different viewpoints and goes back and forth between the past and present, it flowed really well and was easy to follow. Natasha, known as Blaze or Firebird, is a vampire with the gift of fire. While at times she is the villian of the story, she actively seeks the truth and redemption by the end of the book. The story is fast-paced in parts and the love scenes are steamy, but its the emotion in the story that really got me. You don't see the surprises and twists in the story coming especially at the end. I can't wait to read more from this new author!
This book was pretty good and I'd have given it four stars if not for the edfiting. There were words missing and words not removed in some sentences where the author had put in two verbs to see which one read best but one was underscored out. I found missing words, usually a or and. Really the story wasn't bad but it did need better editing. I'd also have shortened some of the parts where she is giving up. Parts if they were overkill and could have been shortened and had the same effect while reading better. I liked the plot although the ending was a bit predictable but then I read a lot of books so can usually figure it out. When I can't though I'm surprised and happy. All in all, interesting but readable, interesting storytelling sad.
let me start off by saying this is not my normal genre. To be honest I don't typically like fantasy novels with vampires or werewolves but I think Kritin Ping has changed that for me. This story kept me glued to it and I found myself being sympathetic to the characters anytime any tragic happened. The story telling is a bit simplistic at times but I am one who really enjoys deep detail. For the majority of the time that desire for details was filled. I was captivated all the way to the end and can honestly say I was a bit surprised by the ending. I enjoyed this so much I immediately followed it up with the next in the series. Highly recommend it and have already passed it along to my wife.. If you are looking for a vampire series that will change your mind about vampire stories this is the one for you. I will defiantly be checking more of her writing out!

Kristin Ping is a fairly new author to me and if the rest of her stories are like this one then I will be doing a lot more one clicking, this is book 1 of the Guardian of Monsters and I hope that there is going to be a book 2 coming out soon. Natasha was turned into a vampire she has not only the power of the vampire she could also create fire, all paranormal’s are scared of her and she is given the name Blaze. Natasha does a bad thing and she just wants to die but her maker Cassandra won’t let her, and if you want to know what that is then you will need to get this book. I enjoyed this story it’s a bit bloody but I guess that’s why it’s called a dark fantasy and I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.
This book has a new unique spin on the vampire, werewolves and supernatural world. I had never read anything quite like this, and for that I really liked it. Full of action and told through memories it is a page turner. I did have some doubts on how gullible the main character Natasha could be, too naive for someone portrayed as being so cruel. While it seems to be the beginning of a series it can be read as a stand alone, that being said, I'm not sure if I would read any follow ups in this world, I liked the way the story was spun and concluded, it feels finished to me and I fear further books might ruin this one.

When Natasha was turned she lost all her memories of her previous life, but she did develope the ability to wield fire. The vampire that turns her uses her as a weapon. Natasha decides to leave the the coven, but her coven leader, and for a long time lover, is not known for being selfless or particularly loving, and may not let her go easily. Wow, fascinating, complex, and dark characters. A plot with a lot of violence, many unexpected twists and some dark romance, these love stories do not end with a happily ever after. I loved this book, I think it is a fantastic must read.
I am voluntarily leaving an honest and non-incentivized review of this ARC.
This is the first book of Kristin Ping that I've read . It was very well written. It was fast paced and kept me turning pages. It hooked me on the first few pages until the last page. Natasha was turned into a vampire. After she was turned she had the power of not only a vampire, she could also channel fire. She was feared by not only her kind but all supernaturals. They started calling her Blaze, you can probably figure out why. I really enjoyed this story id highly recommend this book. You definitely would be disappointed ladies so get downloading !!!
Kristin Ping's Immortal: Guardian of Monsters is the type of book you can't put down. Following the story of Natasha, and a past she can't remember that may or may not have made her into the being she has become - Kristin's storytelling draws you into the characters and gets you invested in what they are going through. I was disappointed it was over when I reached the end and can't wait for the next instalment.

This is a very dark story with lots of pain and loss. Natasha is the main character and as the story goes you start to put together who she is and her past. She doesn’t remember her past and has been only given lies. It seems the moment she starts to remember or even find a moment of happiness death shows up. So many people both good and bad will die. The story does get confusing at times as it jumps around front he past to the present. Don’t expect any happiness in this story. If there is a book two I hope there will be some happiness found for someone.
