s/t: How You Can Wage an Effective Publicity Campaign without Going Broke Every fortune 500 corporation, movie star, and scandal queen can attest that a good publicist is essential to building success and maintaining public support. For the small business owner, the entrepreneur, or undercapitalized beginner seeking an edge in a highly competitive arena, here are the resources necessary to mount your own campaign and get the media exposure you need. In clear and concise language, Michael Levine, one of the top public relations counselors in the country, reveals the same procedures he uses every day to get press on major stars - and how those strategies can be utilized on little or no budget. Using case histories, tips from his own experiences, and by providing important weapons - including the Ten Commandments of Guerilla P.R. and a start-up list of important contacts - Levine shows you how to think like a publicist and map out a strategy for success. This book is for people who need to engage the media and want quick and ingenious methods to bridge the gap between their message and the public.
Calling this the "P.R. bible" is pure hype, but this book is a very good introduction to public relations on a limited budget. Levine provides numerous examples of his style of public relations along with corresponding guidelines. Note that this book is not exhaustive and lacks detail. The author prefers that the reader understand the mentality and basic concepts of "Guerrilla P.R." and thereafter fill in the blanks with his own creativity. The book would profit from further editing to cut out commentaries on pop culture and media that are repetitive and clutter the text. Overall, a good book.
Michael Levine has done it again--given us an essential guide to standing out in a crowded space without going broke in the process. It's a book that deserves to be studied closely and followed intentionally. There's a lot of wisdom in its pages, gleaned from a successful career guiding some of the biggest names in American entertainment.
Many essential pearls and words of wisdom from acclaimed PR Guru, Michael Levine. The concepts are timeless and helpful in life, not just in the realm of PR. Well done Michael!
This book takes a while to get to the point. I couldn't finish it, to be honest. I got halfway through and found another marketing book that was so much more what I was looking for. After hearing lots of examples of companies who do it wrong or right in marketing and hearing a LOT about the author's personal success, I felt like it took me 1/4 of the book to get into some hard core advice and business models suggestions. I feel like this book is great for students but not really the easiest thing for people in a job with limited time and the need for easy, fast, effective advice.
I am so thrilled to find this book and I highly recommend it. With utmost respect and highest regards ... aspiring dreamers, and artists alike, will be touched by the Worlds #1 leading PR expert and famous publicist 'Star behind the Stars' renowned Author Michael Levine. I love his 'Synergism" he both instructs and inspires. Catherine Sarah Manna 'Kiki Love
Definitely more helpful for what I needed - a PR basis for helping out with a local band, since the author comes from an entertainment background. Very accessible.
Maybe would have preferred a few more specifics, or perhaps an appendix with more samples of press releases, business letters, proposals, and the like.
Great insights into the world of PR and how the media controls what we see and learn. Bit wordy at times and some suggestions were a bit basic. Although I did like his ideas on pitching a story.
