The Slice Between is a science fiction story set in the near future when eco-terrorism has grown into a mainstream movement that fights for the extinction of the human species. Extinctionists attack the few remaining cities using biological and chemical weapons with the ultimate goal of protecting the Earth by ridding it of humankind. The Slice Between centers on the narrative of seventeen-year-old James Cavafy, a city employee burdened with the monumental task of finding cures to extinctionist attacks. James Cavafy has lost almost everything to extinctionists. The only family members he has left are his hospitalized uncle, Mohammed, and his younger brother, Vincent. James’ world is consumed by a constant paranoia for his brother’s safety. So when Vincent mysteriously disappears and the city government claims that he died a year ago, James is thrown into the middle of a manhunt that he must keep secret from the city’s dreaded intervention officers. Otherwise, his own safety could be compromised. His journey to find his brother takes James far away from the safeties of the enclosed city and into the wild where there are only scattered human societies. When he finally reaches one such society, he believes that he has found Vincent. Instead, he learns of a much larger plot that concerns not only him but also the survival of the world’s remaining human population.
