Before topping multiple bestseller lists—including those of the New York Times, USA Today, and the Wall Street Journal—award winning author Elisabeth Naughton taught middle school science. A voracious reader, she soon discovered she had a knack for creating stories with a chemistry of their own. The spark turned into a flame, and Elisabeth now writes full-time.

Though primarily known for her romantic suspense work, Elisabeth has penned over thirty books and continues to write in multiple genres, including paranormal romance and contemporary romance. Her books have been translated into numerous languages and have earned several award nominations, including three prestigious RITA® nominations from Romance Writers of America. In 2017, REPRESSED, the first book in her Deadly Secrets series, won the RITA® for best romantic suspense.

Elisabeth's work has been praised by the Chicago Tribune as being filled with "deadly intrigue, high adrenaline action, and scorchingly hot passion.” Kirkus calls her "a writer talented enough at weaving a yarn to get her readers ensnared in it.” When not dreaming up new stories, Elisabeth can be found spending time with her husband and three children in their western Oregon home, wrangling two cats, or chasing after one very rambunctious Dalmatian.

All right, let’s all acknowledge that first impressions matter. This cover makes one heck of a first impression. I felt like I was about to knock on the lions’ den or something. It was so imposing but welcoming at the same time.

Sometimes you read a book that shakes you to your core. Forbidden is one of those, and that’s why I’ve been watching funny cat videos for the last half hour. I read most of it, thinking this is kind of sweet then I got to about the 80% point and all I thought was cazzo.

Props to the author for pulling it off. There were hints, but never did I for a second suspect that. So, now I’m sitting here trying to wrap my head around everything that happened at the end of the book. I loved the ending, but I guess I should rewind a little, I’m getting ahead of myself. I’m going to be careful not to give anything away here because the shock is part of the fun and I think it’s important to go into this book with an open mind.

In this book, we meet Luc, the reluctant CEO of a fashion magazine, and Natalie a strong, independent young lady in New York hoping to find out what happened to her best friend. This book is written in alternating perspectives (my favorite) so we get to know Luc and Natalie both well. At first, I thought Luc was an a**hole, I didn’t like him at all. Then I got to know him and I fell in love fast and hard, just like Natalie. I loved Natalie too, obviously. I love anyone who isn’t afraid to say no and stand up for themselves, something she has no problem doing.

Throughout the story, we see Luc who is used to being in control surrender little by little to Natalie. We watch as Natalie challenges him and he tries his best to seem unaffected. We get a front row seat to his emotional turmoil over his desire for her and we get to see when that desire wins. He does so many little things to show he cares about her and that’s what drew me in. He’s dark and brooding, his family is powerful with plenty of secrets. Not to mention his controlling tendencies. Luc is forbidden. But I couldn’t help myself, I totally fell for him.

This is one heck of a sexy book. Luc and Natalie have amazing passion and chemistry, every time they come together is intense. The author did an amazing job of capturing both the emotions and actions in those moments which made them wonderful to read.

I’d recommend Forbidden to anyone looking to read something on the darker side. This book will not leave you with a smile on your face and warm fuzzy feelings, so be prepared for that. It’s a well-written, engaging, and beautifully formatted read that left me shocked and itching to read the sequel.

Cât mă bucur că am citit cartea asta! Glumesc...

Forbidden by Elisabeth Naughton is the first book in the House of Sin series. This is the story of Luciano Salvaciti and Natalie James.
Natalie's best friend Elena, died of a drug overdoes but Natalie thinks there more to it. Natalie knows that her friend never did drugs and wouldn't...watch she does know is that she started a new job emailing her some clues of what she was into. Natalie is out to find out what happened to her and she goes to get a job at Covet where she feels will help lead her to the answers she needs. Luc runs the company and he knows there is something different about Natalie....an attraction that can't be denied.
Please beware this is a dark romance that may have trigger issues for some. In addition, this does end with a cliffhanger to set us up for the next installment in their story.

Wow! This book was like the best kind of crazy, drag you in and hold you hostage wild!

I’m generally not a fan of BDSM and I suspected this story might involve it with a series titled House Of Sin. But I love what I’ve read from this author in the past and the blurb was just too hard to resist. I expected a sex club with friends of the hero who would be dominant and dark. I did not expect what I found within these pages.

Natalie is looking for answers to her friend’s death and ends up in the sphere of the Salvaciti men. As her mind races from one potential suspect to another she finds herself in the company of Luc with all his dominating force. She’s a strong independent woman with no need to submit herself to any man. But what she finds with Luc has her eager and willing…until she realizes she may have allowed herself to become just like her friend.

This book really rocked me. I lost myself down the dark and twisted path that this couple traveled. As a witness to Natalie’s fall, I sensed the traps that could snap up and ensnare her when she didn’t. However, Luc’s point of view was a reprieve from the worse of my concern. Unfortunately, there is a deep dark secret that threatens not only him but Natalie as well and as the reader I was on pins a needles waiting for that secret to loom up and swallow me whole.

I absolutely loved this story, these characters, the darkness of every secondary character introduced because you didn’t know their agenda, and the buildup of tension and angst. It’s not a particularly fast read but you don’t want to skim because every line is full of emotion or needed information. I knew going in it was a cliffhanger so I had braced myself but oh Lord! I didn’t realize how hard it was going to hit me. I need the next book NOW!

P.S. Second book is planned to release three weeks after Forbidden

Every time a heroine says "This seems like a bad idea, but..." and justifies her dangerous behavior I die a little inside.

Natalie is in New York investigating a friend's death. She's not a cop or anything... Luc owns a fashion magazine, but happens to be interviewing interns on the day Natalie comes in... He's so powerful. She's so dewy-eyed. You know the spiel. There's darkness and secrets and sexual shenanigans that I felt were unrealistic and uncomfortable. I can dig on some good BDSM, but it need to be realistic for me to enjoy it - both partners discussing it beforehand (like reasonable adults).

The writing wasn't bad. The story felt like I had read it before. And the heroine made stupid decisions and did unrealistic, dangerous things.

He mystified her, she intrigued him. Luciano Salvaciti was a man who wanted everything to be under his control. When he caught sight of Natalie James inquiring for a job at Covet, he knew she was trouble. And trouble seemed to follow them both, wherever they would go.

Natalie only wanted the truth about her best friend's death. Going to Covet could bring her close to her suspects. But what she found was something way beyond the norm. More like an occult. A sin. Something forbidden. Something primal. Something deadly.

I have to admit, this is absolutely the most electrifying, most titillating and most seductive book I've read from Elisabeth Naughton. And this is just scratching the surface. Forbidden is the first book in the House of Sin series, and I am already overwhelmed by the amount of super hot and mindblowing sexy scenes. The pages nearly burned my skin because of the scorching hot details in the story. Luc and Natalie could easily combust and burn the house down. I was speechless while reading the book, and when I came to that astonishing end, I screamed and now I am asking for more.

That's how good this story is, very very articulate and very very stimulating and very very mystifying. I can't wait to get my hands on the next book. Elisabeth Naughton needs to release the sequel immediately!!

Dark. Daring. Dangerous. Compelling. Intense. Spellbinding. It is Forbidden…the first book in a new series by the wonderful Elisabeth Naughton. She steps out of her comfort zone and dives into the wicked world of power, dominance and submission in this pulse-pounding sensual thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The characters are captivating and the storyline so mesmerizing you will be swept away in the pages. With alternating viewpoints between Natalie and Luc you are able to get a better feel of the characters, what drives their decisions and the emotional turmoil they each face. This book will push you to the edge of your comfort zone and the shocking cliffhanger will leave you wanting…craving more. I am dying to learn what is next for Natalie and Luc. I can hardly wait for the next book. *I received an ARC of this book and am providing my honest review.

Slow to start of.

I couldn't make what this story was about cause it took its time to unravel. I don't really like Natalie a little too annoying I mean the start was good and I liked her then but middle to ending I kind of just went meh and carried on as curious as I was to know the secret Luc had.

FORBIDDEN made me bounce on my sofa with shock. With its vivid descriptions and mysterious characters, it sets the mood of the story perfectly. You know something heart pounding awaits in the next chapter; it’s just a case of when it will happen.
Natalie James infiltrates a fashion magazine as the assistant to the CEO. Plunged into a world of confusion, Natalie is trying to determine who is responsible for her best friend’s death.
It starts as a whodunit. A bang from page one. Immediately you know the stakes. She refuses to believe her best friend Elena died from a drug overdose. From small town heartland Idaho, she goes to the big bad New York City to find the truth. Immediately you know she has the heart, determination and stubbornness to find the truth.

“….he was not a person to be messed with. Too bad. I was about to mess.”

She meets the beast, Luciano Salvatici, the acting CEO of Covet, a powerful fashion magazine (think Vogue). He’s the key to the mystery “HE” her best friend writes about.

“He is the most dangerous of men. If I’m not careful, he will destroy me.”

As you read how Natalie slides into Luc’s world of sexual dominance, the plot becomes more a mystery. Natalie sets aside all reasoning and do not adhere to his warnings regarding her life is at a significant risk. The more sexual their relationship becomes the more you want to turn the page.
The true thrill takes place in the last few chapters. Everything is progressing like a roller coaster. There are so many dips, fast pace action, twist and turns.
Enter the FORBIDDEN with Natalie and Luc. It’s a romantic thriller to make you clinch your armchair. You will be surprised by what horrors lurk within COVET. Everything you think you know about this Italian family will deliver something you will not seeing coming.

Natalie James leaves her small Idaho town for Manhattan to look into the death of her best friend. She’s determined to get a job at the same company as her friend. Her initial introduction to Luciano Salvatici does not go well and she is sent on her way. Natalie is strong willed, determined and very independent.

Luc is intimidating, dark, dominant, controlling and drawn to Natalie. However he is hiding dark secrets that he never wants her to discover.

While it was an interesting winding, twisting tale, there was so much drama. And I am not a drama queen. Lots of scorching hot, fan your face sex, to the point of practically obliterating the story line. And towards the end it gets pretty dark and disturbing. Lots of possible triggers here. I liked parts of the book, disliked parts and found some parts downright unrealistic/unbelievable. So, I’m kinda on the fence about this one. I will probably read the next one to see where it goes and hope the drama tones down a little.

Wow!

Amazing story!

I was totally hooked on this book and couldn’t read the pages quick enough. I knew Gio was trouble from the beginning, but I just thought Luc was an jerk. Then we see his softer side, the side that wants to protect and save everyone that he can.

I liked Natalie and the strength that she had to try to find out what happened to her best friend. She knows her friend would never overdose, so she has to get close to the people at Covet to see what she could find out.

She ends up catching Luc’s Eye and he knows that she is in over her head, so he takes it upon himself to try to protect her from his family. Then the trip happens and I really start stressing over his family and the danger that Natalie was in BUT it turns out that I was blindsided by whom she should have truly been afraid of.

This is a must read book and I can’t wait for the next book to be released to see what happens next.

Forbidden has an intriguing premisse, similar to one I've read before and liked a lot.
I didn't know that before I started the book, I confess I read the blurb of this one before reading it, but it didn't give much away, which I'm glad. From the blurb I waa a bit intrigued, but became more afte thefirst chapter.

And while it intrigued me, it still didn't make my heart beat faster. Some parts were better than others, but Forbidden may have a bit too much drama for my taste. Some of it was very predictable, some were surprising, but not all surprisingly good.

I expected more from it, but I'm willing to bet on the story and give the second book a go. I want to see how the Beast will explain himself and get the girl.

Wow! What a switch in story telling for this author. Great introduction to a new series House of Sin. This book tells about Natalie and her attempt to find out what happened to her best friend. She meets Luc and his family and the world tips on it's axis.

Suspense, intrigue, action, scorching sexy times, and a cliff hanger to boot. The story has it all. It takes a bit to get into as the first few chapters are the set up to the action to come. ONce it gets going, it just explodes. Twists and turns everywhere! But overall, not a bad start to something completely new for this beloved author. I will be jumping into book two as soon as it drops!

It's totally not my cup of tea. There's too much drama and the Relationship is not one I'm in awe of. ANd then when I decide to finish the book I had the unpleasant surprise to discover that the love story was to be continued. I Don't know if I'll read the other books of the series.

The book starts with a woman showing up for an interview with a mysterious, naturally dominant CEO whose entire staff is composed of beautiful, blonde women. Upon meeting him, she immediately stumbles and hopes he doesn't notice. He's sexy A.F. and our male lead.

Stop me if you've heard this one before. What's that, you say? "50 Shades", you say? Well, you're in luck, because this one actually has a plot! And no contracts over 50 pages!

So, the female lead is investigating the murder of her best friend, Elena, who used to be a model for a fancy magazine, and who died of a suspicious overdose. The female lead isn't a detective or anything, just Really Concerned.

She doesn't get the internship at the company where her friend used to work, but she meets a photographer outside the building who offers her a job as his assistant - and yay, he's the brother of the CEO and also part of the powerful family running the operation.

But between the female lead and the CEO there's a certain attraction, one that's riddled with danger, because his family is OLDER AND MORE POWERFUL THAN THE MAFIA!!!! And involved in all sorts of shady business and sex trafficking stuff and sex cult-like stuff. Oh, noes. The horror.

Anyway, what this all amounts to is a story about a woman who's not exactly a virgin (she had ONE boyfriend before) encountering the mysterious, dominant, kinky lead and falling right into his arms, whereby he discovers he has a heart and a soul and he loves her nearly instantly because she's beautiful, innocent, pure, and stubborn, and unlike his usual women.

The sex is supposedly kinky, but it's the sort of kink you'd dream of if you were entirely vanilla - except for this one time when he makes her wear nipple clamps. And then she wears them *under her bra* for a *whole bunch of time*, which just... doesn't sound great. Other than that, he orders her around a bit and threatens her with things that never happen, such as bondage and spanking, while thinking to himself that yup, this is exactly the kind of rough sex he loves. (Dude, you're supposed to have experience with this shit, what's up with you telling her to go down on her knees and considering that rough?)

I went into this hoping for something like "The Story of O", and instead I got "The Story of 50 Shades If Someone Added Some Plot To It", but it becomes ridiculous towards the end with the sex cult things.

The Romanian edition is so bad it's almost good. I have no idea if the team was so into this that they were working on it with one hand, or so desperate to finish it that they worked on it while watching a movie, but the book is riddled with typos and editing issues, and the verb tenses are all over the place. You have brilliant scenes such as her looking for the Vatican on the seat of a car, but the buildings are too tall for that; or someone looking at the female lead as if she were a "piece of a book" (the intention here was a piece of meat, they really are one letter apart - carte/carne) (but you know, like, #mood, I do look at books like that), or her dangling on his tongue (I'm not even sure what that was trying to be). So kudos to the ream, their, er, Easter Eggs really made my day.

Forbidden Fruit is always so enticing…

Get ready for something entirely new from this author. I have never really been a big fan of a romantic read that features dominance and submission as a featuring role in the bedroom. The whole premise of one partner needing to dominate the other is not my typical read and although I have read several other authors that write in that genre I was totally surprised to find that Ms. Naughton was indeed taking me down that dark and twisted road in Forbidden. Let me tell you, Luciano Salvatici should definitely be on the forbidden list, he absolutely should not be considered boyfriend material. That being said, as always I’m quick to get caught up in the tale that is being spun by this exceptional author, she has a way of drawing me in even when I’m thinking what the heck is going on here? And, is she really writing what I think she’s writing about?

But I digress, let me give you a quick breakdown, the main character Natalie James is very quickly caught up in this dark and twisted tale when she arrives in New York bound and determined to find the person responsible for the murder of her best friend. Before she knows what is happening she is quickly drawn in by the handsome, yet exceptionally dangerous Italian Luc Salvatici and their affair is nothing short of hot and very naughty as Luc strives to dominate her in every way possible in and out of the bedroom. I found the sex scenes to be incredibly riveting, steamy, and very tastefully written even if I’m not one to get into the whole dominance and submission thing. All I can say is, wow! I don’t think that reading this book in a public place is a good idea, but then again I’ve gotten distracted. Back to Luc, on the surface, Luc is all business as the CEO of Covet in the fashion industry, he is domineering, and at times nothing short of a total dick but all may not be what it seems when family secrets come to light. I will warn the reader here that this series is definitely geared toward adults and ends on what I think of as a huge cliffhanger, but fans of the series shouldn’t have to wait very long to get their hands on Deceived Book 2 of House of Sin. I for one can not wait to see what happens next in Natalie and Luc’s story.

Last but not least, I received an ARC of Forbidden for an honest review, which in no way influenced my review. Thank you, Elisabeth Naughton, for once again engaging me in a truly amazing tale, and I have no idea as to how this story will play out.

This is my first Elisabeth Naughton story and I LOVED it. I love darker books with a hint of mystery and this one has it. Luc is an enigma that I can't figure out yet. He is the soon to be head of his family The Salvatici Family. He doesn't want to be, he hates his family and wants out. But sees no way to make that happen. His brothers are harder and meaner than him but he is the oldest and so will take on as the head of the family.

When Natalie James walks in for a job he knows there is something off and tells her no. But his brother Gio finds that he wants her. So Natalie finds herself in the middle of the Salvatici family.

The thing I love the most about this book is you have NO IDEA what the hell is going on with this family. I mean you think you do, because the modeling and females coming and going, so you go straight to human trafficking, but once you start reading and get more into it, you find there is so much more into this family. And why Luc is so damn scared of his father.

Natalie is the idea of what Luc wants if his life would have been different. He has done everything he could to keep her away from his life but no matter what he did, she wouldn't leave. I loved that about her. She is strong, stubborn, sexy, and just what Luc needs in his life.

I am so excited to see what is next in this series. I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy for my honest review.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is the first book in a new series. It certainly sets the scene for us, although in a most disturbing world. It is however quite fitting that a fashion magazine would be a good cover for such an operation.

At the heart of the story are Natalie and Luc - a mismatched pair, but clearly one that works for them ... sort of. The level of secrecy and mistrust is such that I am not sure how it could ever really work - but no doubt Ms Naughton plans on showing us in future books. I did find Natalie's ability to determine Luc's every mood by his eyes a little unbelievable at times, and then even when she did, she reacted in denial of what she saw. I get that she was a little (haha) out of her depth, but at some point she had to trust her own eyes.

This was not really for me, but it is well written, and pages of it I loved, but then it got too dark or twisted, or I became frustrated with bad decisions. I do believe that we will get more clarity as we go forward, but for now, I am stuck in uncertainty.

3.5 stars but rounding to 4 because EN’s writing is excellent.

I have to be honest and say that certain aspects of this story are not in my wheelhouse; they just aren’t topics I gravitate towards reading about. However, EN has laid out a compelling story that leaves you wanting more. While reading this, multiple times my brain kept registering how smoothly the words flowed across the pages, how the story kept pulling me in and moving me forward. I don’t think there is a book EN has written that I haven’t read and this one struck me as the best yet. The writing is simply that good.

What starts off with a woman searching for answers to her friends death quickly turns into something much darker, intense and more powerful than she could have imagined. There are some secrets you are better off not knowing the truth of and nothing could have prepared Natalie for what she discovers.

Be warned that there is a cliffhanger but I think that fits so perfectly with this story. Natalie doesn’t know what’s coming next … and neither do we.

Thanks to Ms. Naughton for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Forbidden was a decadent treat that I knew would unnerve and scare the heck out of me I could not stop reading because I was lost in the eroticism in the story and the very sexy characters. I thought this story was great. Luc and Natalie were sexy and compelling and I could not stop reading.

When Natalie James decides to go undercover at a leading fashion magazine, Covet, to expose the murder of her childhood bestfriend, she never would have expected the quagmire of epic proportions she immersed herself in. Filled with suspense and intrigue and mindblowing sexual games, she has no idea who is friend or foe. But when CEO Luciano "Luc" Salvatici sets his eyes on her she has no idea what is coming!

Gah! This novel was sexy and so erotic. I loved the touches of BDSM and how Luc opened Natalie's eyes to her secret desires and wants. BUT OMG that ending?!!! I am SO hooked and can't wait for book two. Bravo! 4 stars! ~Ratula

I had no idea what I was getting into. That should have been the first line of the book, but instead it's my thoughts. I had no idea where this story was going to go, where it did go, and what it made me feel. I've read the author off an on for years and this book opened the door to another author I have to put on my auto buy list. This is not a bad thing. There are things in this story that are bad things. SUPER bad! The flow of the story whisks you away to an amazing story, and you'll be happy you picked it up. The main characters are so real. I can't wait to read the next!

Dark Erotic Romance, BDSM.

Dual-POV.

Book #1 of a serial, so there is a cliffhanger.

Addictiveness: Highly Addictive. This was intense, addictive that kept me on the edge of my seat until the end. Couldn't let go!
Character: hero 5/5, heroine 5/5, secondary characters 5/5, growth 5/5, real 5/5  Yes!!! All characters are multidimensional and with a great growth-arch. Luc is a Dominant, that comes from a evil family and struggles with himself because he can't disassociate being a  Dominant from the being a monster like his family. He is flaw and in his weakness he becomes real and lovable. Natalie is naïve, sweet fighting for her best-friend's honor even after death. She is the perfect balm to heal Luc's pain. She seems so weak, but she is the strongest of them all.
Cover: art 4/5, title 5/5, subtitle 5/5, color-font 4/5, buy 4/5 This cover is different from most out there. In its simplicity we can feel the strength almost vibrating through the door handle. Is meaningful to the story. The great title adds to the overall art of the cover. I would buy this book without reading the blurb.
Freshness: Unique! This book is definitely one-of-a-kind. Feels very fresh and new!
Plot: believable 3.5/5, conflict 5/5, dialogue 5/5, ending 3/5, enjoyment 5/5, opening 5/5, pace 5/5, setting 5/5, subplots 5/5, twists 5/5  Great opening and ok ending. Really good conflict and well written dialogues. Fast-paced with enough subplots to enhance the story. A few unexpected twists here and there, that makes this story enjoyable even though difficult. This plot was amazing. It kept me on the edge of my seat, never knowing what would come next. There is no loopholes on this plot, everything is there for a reason and it all makes sense. Luc has  been fighting to be different from his family his entire life. Much worst, he fights himself and his natural urges, of being a Dominant, because he is afraid of how close this could be from turning into a monster. He battles himself and his nature at the same time, he believes deep down, there is no scape from his horrible family. Natalie is sweet, naïve and looking for justice.  Her acceptance of his Dominant side transforms him. But there are more secrets to be uncover, maybe secrets that will be too much for her.
Romance: believable 4/5, chemistry 5/5, description 5/5, development 5/5, steam 5/5 I loved it! They were perfect to each other.  Their chemistry was crazy. The smut here is really well done, with many good scenes. The development of the relationship has the perfect balance of a believable love story.
Writing Style: I’m so impressed with this. It was fabulous!!! Those characters and their emotions can be felt by the reader. The plot is really good and the romance is intense.

As much as I understand the need for a serial, I don't have to like the cliffhanger. ;)

Wow! My first read by the author and I'm in shock.
