Smooth Operator is my first book by Jennifer Lucia, so I had few expectations going in. I was hopeful that I would like the writing style, and it would keep my interest. I'm happy to report that it didn't fail me on either front!
Olivia Holman is the author of a popular pirate romance series, and she's trying desperately to figure out how to write the perfect ending to it. While she is pondering her options, she gets a phone call from a Hollywood producer that wants to turn her first book into a movie. Olivia is surprised and hesitant, but ultimately she takes him up on his offer.
The cast and director go out to dinner with Olivia, and that's where she meets the male lead in the film, Tyler Sutton. She and Tyler have amazing chemistry, and that chemistry only intensifies onset. Before long, they are both falling fast, but Olivia resists thinking that Tyler is a player. In her defense, he has a reputation, but he tries to assure her that she's got it all wrong.
This is one of those love stories where the only person in the couple's way is themsleves. Olivia was betrayed by her fiance, and it left her jaded and heartbroken. She finds it difficult to accept that some hot Hollywood heart throb wants to settle down with her, and that even if does, he'll stay faithful. I can understand where Olivia was coming from, but sometimes, she drove me crazy. Lol Luckily, Tyler is a great guy!
Overall, I enjoyed Smooth Operator. The writing kept me engaged, the pacing was perfect, and the romance was sweet. I would gladly read more of the author's work in the future.
I recommend this to readers than want a sweet, light romance with a little bit of angst.
