Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Boy marries girl. And they both live happily ever after. Right?
Not quite.
I fell for the boy. So slowly I barely noticed, then all at once. I loved my best friend with my entire heart, letting him fill up the holes my family had dug. But boys don’t fall for other boys. Just ask him.
So my story turned into boy meets boy. Boy falls for boy. Boy gets rejected. Boy meets girl. Boy meets boy. Boy loses them over and over and over again.
Pretty twisted, right?
My life story was really just a screwed up love story. A search for the one person that understood the darkness inside me. The monster I’d become. But sometimes the holes are too deep and far too bloody, for anyone—boy or girl—to fill.
Ace Gray is a best selling author, self-proclaimed troublemaker and connoisseur of both the good life and fairy tales. After a life-long love affair with both books, she undertook writing the novel she wanted to read. Ten books later, she's gotten to live in the world of billionaires, twisted murders, and sweet small towns. She's made her heart race both with suspense and serious swoon and wouldn't trade one minute, one word of it.
When she's not writing, she owns a taco truck in a ski town in Colorado even though she can't cook a lick (that's all her husband). She loves paddle boarding, snowboarding, camping, basically anything outside... and hosting dinner parties (though she's only in it for the drinks). Oh, and of course, writing more words.
Ace is the author of Strictly Business, Bad For Business, Family Business, Twisted Fate, Twisted Death, A Twisted Love Story, Twisted Secrets, Of Smoke & Cinnamon: A Christmas Story, Pretty Young Things, All The Letters I'll Never Send You and All The Letters I've Ever Read. These titles are available on Amazon.
~WRITING - PLOT - PACE~ My goodness, this book was good, but it was also crazy intense. There wasn't anything sweet or heartwarming about this story. It was dark. It was gritty. It was filled with seriously f-cked up characters and tons of nasty sex. The writing was fantastic though. But I had a few issues with the pace. It was a bit too long in my opinion and the last 30% really dragged for me. That said, the plot was incredibly engaging for the first 70% and even though the last 30% felt like a bit of a slog to get through I was still very invested in the story. My other issue was that although this can be read as a standalone there were times especially later in the book that we seemed to jump over important events with no explanation. Which left me a bit confused. I assume these events may take place in Cole's books (A TWISTED FAIRYTALE)? But it would have been nice had the author at least gave us a few lines of explanation. One minute a character is alive and well and the next scene they are talking about this character's death with ZERO explanation to what happened. This happened more than a few times and with some pretty HUGE and important events! It really took away from the story. Last, that ending??!! It slayed me.
~MAIN CHARACTERS~ HORSE...I don't even know where to start with this guy. My heart broke for him a million times during this book but he was NOT a good person. He did a lot of f-cked up sh!t and hurt a lot of people. But there was just something that shone through and made you want to hug him. His relationship with Cole was so good. So complicated. So twisted and messed up.
COLE...I liked him. His character wasn't anywhere near as developed as Horse's in this book and because of that, I struggled at times with understanding his decisions. I am guessing that since he has a duet (A TWISTED FAIRYTALE) dedicated to him and Elle that a good portion of THIS story is retold through his eyes in those books.
~SECONDARY CHARACTERS~ There were quite a few secondary characters that have varying degrees of importance. Some I loved. Some I hated. Some made me bawl my eyes out. Some I would like to read more about. All of them added amazing amounts of depth to this story.
~HEAT LEVEL~ Extremely High. My god was this book full of sex and sex scenes. M/M. MMF. MFM. A smidge of F/F. Loads of raw and raunchy sex. Cheating. Rape. Rough sex. Angry sex. Choking.
~ANGST LEVEL~ Very High. This book was kind of brutal to read. It was full of cheating. Push and pull. Unrequited feelings. Death. Torture. Murder. It was definitely not a unicorn farting rainbows type of read (lol). It will put you through the ringer for sure.
~IN THE END~ I enjoyed this one a lot and now I really want to read Cole's story. That said, it wasn't without a few issues (too long and events skipped over without explanation) and those things had me lowering my rating a bit. That said, this author knows her way around a story. She pulled SO many emotions from me. I was angry. I was crying. I wanted to shake the ever-loving hell out of some of these characters. I didn't even care that no one ever stayed faithful <-- that's a miracle if ever there was one (lol). Therefore, yours truly is going to give this one two very solid thumbs up. I'll be keeping my eyes peeled to see what this author has up her sleeve next.
Another wild and twisted ride from Ace Gray! Let me first say, if you haven’t read Twisted Fate and Twisted Death, STOP. Go back. Start at the beginning! It is not required, but should be, in my opinion. Plus they are amazing, so there’s that. Anyway, once you’ve read the first two book, you will already love Horse. His long journey to find love is heart-breaking and beautiful. If you like dark reads, you should absolutely check out all of Ace’s Twisted books. You will not be disappointed!!
I Elle. Dało mi miłość."
I was given an advanced readers copy of this book and have decided to leave a voluntary review. Ok first and foremost Cole from the very beginning has been one of my ultimate book boyfriends. I just can't get enough of him. Everything about him draws to me everything! Now that I have reaf horses story omg the man is on the same level has Cole. Horse is utterly amazing, horse is good, horse is brave. Horse is gorgeous and omg I freaken love him. Callum now wow was the man ever hot, he was truly perfect for horse. They just fit together. But Cole horse and Elle completed each other. Conrad was just belonged to horse no other way to put it. I also knew mickey was bad and horrible but I had no idea how twisted really was the man is just pure disgusting evil. That got me exactly what he deserved. Now sibohan I hated her in the first two books. I still dislike her, but I'm horses book I saw a different side her that wasn't pure evil. Twisted love story is the perfect title for this book. And it was perfect ending. Ace doll I'm sad to see this series come to end but I lover each and every minute of it. Thank you for bringing cole and horse into my life and they will stay there always.
When I received this book I pretty much inhaled it. I’ve read previous books by this author and loved them so I kinda knew I was going to enjoy this. I was actually struggling to put into words how I felt about it. So at present I’m re reading it and guess what re reading ain’t helping my review as I’m reading it slower and loving it even more.
I was so happy to read Horses story. I needed to know how he became the man he is. This is the story of how Horse and Cole met and their rollercoaster of a journey. Nothing is ever as it seems. Neither have had a good start in life but together they grow from boy into man with each other by their side. Their story is raw and intense. I’m not going into the story as you need to read and feel for yourself.
The whole story is full of emotions, different types of emotions. I’ve gotta say the last quarter properly shredded my heart. I thought the author broke me. Even reading a second time it broke again.
If your looking for a sweet romance or have any triggers give this book a miss. It’s a real twisted story of love and loss. Although you don’t need to read the previous books to enjoy this I highly recommend you do as the series is brilliant.
{I received this as an ARC in exchange for an Honest Review} This book is everything!!! It is the perfect story!! Horse deserves the best and that's what he got!! I couldn't imagine this book being any different!! This is the book we all want! This is so much more than just a love story. It's an origin story. We get to see Hoarse at his beginning! When he first meets Cole (his best friend), How he enters the dark world he is in, we get to see his first love and his last!! This book is emotional and so amazing! This book has my heart I am so in love with Horse and I am so unbelievably happy that we get his story!! This is a story of love and loss, of findings one place in the world and finding yourself. It was so PERFECT!!!! Horse managed to break my heart and put it back together.
This is a story you are going to want to read! It is Dark and Sexy!! It can make you smile and make you cry. Its heartbreaking but also so amazing! The love stories in this book are everything!! "A Twisted Love Story" is an AMAZING book that I am so happy that I read!! I am so in love with this book and any book that can get such STRONG emotions out of me (I cried so hard at parts) is one that I will love forever! I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK!!
5 Cream Pie Stars! Just when I thought I couldn’t fall more in love with Horse we’re given his story and WOW what a dark, twisted beautiful adventure. We’re taken back to when Cole and Horse first become friends and you see how their friendship blooms and explains why they’re as connected as they are today. The timeline flows so smoothly as we progress into the present that brings us further then what we’ve already experienced with Cole and Elle’s story. Horse is a broken soul that has so much love to give and I was brought to tears so many damn times reading this book, the emotions bleed off the pages and nest straight in your heart and soul, you feel everything this man feels and it’s beautiful. I couldn’t and didn’t want to put this book down. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.
A couple things first... •This can absolutely be read as a stand-alone. I have not read the first two books, and I never felt lost. You better believe I will be going to back to read the first two books because holy...I just can’t. I need more Horse, Cole, and Elle. Like, I feel a void in my book loving heart right now. •This a dark and gritty world filled with violence and crime. The characters are amoral, and many of them have no souls at all. •This is still a love story. It is just filled with depraved characters. It is filled with many relationships that morph and evolve over the course of the story. At its core, thought, it shows light in the darkness and the darkest love still shines bright. ________
5 WILD & SAFE CROWNS
One of the best discoveries of 2017 was picking up the book Of Smoke & Cinnamon. Not only was it a great story, but it brought me to the words of Ace Gray. Her prose from the minute I read that book, spoke to me. It is beautiful and honest. Her stories just reach into my heart and twist it around, making me feel so many emotions, and no story had me all mixed up like Horse. It is one of those books that I’m not sure my words will be able to articulate what I feel for this book, but I’m going to give it a shot.
Horse is such a complex character because of his dichotomous nature. He is good and bad, light and dark, hate and love, and death and life. He, however, sees none of the good. He sees the death and mayhem he creates and brings. Watching the people who love him show him the good is one of the most rewarding experiences I have ever witnessed with a hero. I also love his openness with sexuality. He truly does not in any way have a preference. He just likes it all. Every person. Every act. He craves a bit of aggression, and it isn’t a surprise with the life he lives. I enjoy the acceptance of it in the novel. Although several acts in the novel are violent and aggressive, it is often what the characters want, especially Horse, and what turns them on. There is never judgment, well, maybe Horse judging himself, over what is done. It is a part of who they are. Horse is also a man who loves fiercely and wholeheartedly, even if it decimated him in the end. He is the dark hero, the man who seems evil but truly is man searching for love and family.
There are so many “others” in Horse’s life that I can’t characterize each of them, but each person serves a purpose in the evolution of Horse, his journey to the man he is at the end of this story. Whether it is the man who forces him into the darkest parts of his soul, the man who gives him reprieve, the woman who has been his family and seeks love in the violence, the man who has his soul, or the two who bring light and peace, each one plays an integral part to the man I fell in love with (and yes, I fell for this violent, broken, and beautiful man).
This story is a journey, a war per se. It is Horse fighting for himself, for the people he loves, for some type of redemption. It is emotional. I read this story with my mouth gaping, with tears in my eyes, with my hand gripping my chest. It was hot, it was heartfelt, and it was, at times, depraved, and I was completely enraptured by every moment, every line, every word. I never wanted it to end, but I cannot explain my joy with the ending she gave the readers. It was perfect. ABSOLUTELY. PERFECT.
If you read dark romance, one-click this book RIGHT NOW! It is a world unlike any other. If you have thought about picking up a darker romance, read this. You will be carried away by this world. I’m truly in awe of her writing. It captivates me. It works its way into my heart. It riles me up. It speaks truth, even if it is the darkest parts of humanity. It is violent beauty. ______
I must be in the minority here, and maybe I need to read Elle and Cole’s story, but this was a hot mess to me. I severely disliked Cole and Elle, for all their goodness I found them grating and selfish. I found Horse’s worship of Cole sickening, and him cheating on Conrad with them really was not on. I know this story is twisted and dark, that’s fine, I don’t even mind a four way relationship, but Horse going with Elle and Cole was not known by Conrad making it a massive betrayal, I also found it pathetic how Conrad constantly forgave Horse for betraying him. Horse even has the cheek to guilt trip Conrad when he finds him? He is annoyed he ran off? Seriously he told you Elle and Cole were a limitfor him and then he had to walk in on all of them together? I feel like because Horse was apparently some big softie underneath all the cruel he was meant to be forgiven all his mistakes? Yeah, no! I didn’t buy the whole Insta love with Elle, one minute he barely knew her, then suddenly she was another love he couldn’t deny? How many loves does this guy need? Did he really love any of them? He seemed obsessed with Cole, treated Callum like he was a fill in, betrayed Conrad, and who he loved most seemed to rotate? He said it was always Conrad? Really, after he cheated? It seemed more like Cole had chosen Elle, so Horse stuck with Conrad? I like loyalty and knowing your heart which none of these characters really did apart from Conrad. This story just didn’t do it for me and the characters annoyed me with their stupid, selfish actions. I know the book was meant to be dark and messed up, but horse was an asshole who treated Callum and Conrad Terribly. This book, be characterisation nad most of the writing is trash.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The beginning was great, with all kinds of hotness. Man, women, orgies. Just like true blood, even the biting and the blood, just without the actual vampires. It was very arousing. The title is very fitting. It's twisted as f***.
But I'm sorry to say, I don't know what's happening anymore. There are obviously missing scenes, that took place in the previous books, which I haven't read. And after almost 200 pages of wild sex, it's a bit too much. And that Mickey guy is just disgusting.
I actually liked it, until I didn't. One positive thing: the Callum-Horse-Cole 'love triangle' (or I don't know what to call it) was interesting to witness, and I truly loved that.
Wow what a book!!!! I really enjoyed A Twisted Love Story..it was very different than I thought it would be and I was pleasantly surprised but then again you can never ever go wrong with a MM romance!!!
I was generously provided with an arc by the author and let me just say I love this series but this book was amazing..emotional..heartbreaking and very very hot!!! A definite must read!!!
Oh My Days!! wow oh wow...alright I suppose I better start using actual words, this book gahhh! I loved horse before ...but now! he will always have a place in my heart, right back to review It was nice to see how it all began with Horse and Cole, how they became friends and as this is all told from horses pov, it's good to see how he is feeling, this book has all the feels..the awwws the sniffles the oh hot dammms! this book does have it's dark moments but that wouldn't be a book about horse if it didn't, this book should be on everyone's tbr list. ii give this book 5 hot as fuk grab your tissues and change your pants stars! This is my honest review for exchange for an ARC.
The first place to start is...if you have any sort of triggers or are not into dark and twisted then this is NOT the book for you. Having said that, OH MY WORD!!!!! Ace Gray has done the most amazing job of this book. You don't have to have read the other two books first but I highly recommend to get a true understanding of this book that you do read Twisted Fate and Twisted Death first. Now I will say that I loved Horse in the first two books but having a chance to read his book, I have a completely new understanding of Horse and how he became who he was. There is so much more to this man and the story, I don't even know how to put it into words without giving it all away. The genuine emotions that bleed off these pages and work their way into your heart are on a whole nother level. You can't help but be sucked in with what is happening and the way that the sex scenes are written is somehow a mix of pure lust and the most amazing forms of love in a true yet twisted way. My advice, keep tissues on hand, a lot of ice cream and be prepared to do nothing once you have finished this book because there is a part of your soul that will no longer feel like it is there. This is my honest and unbiased review.
I've been lucky enough to Beta read for Ace for a while now and so I've been in love with this guy called Horse for a long, long time now. I fell right about the first time he said his first words in Twisted Fate. My love for him set the bar so ridiculously high, I wasn't sure even Ace could him justice.
Boy, was I wrong.
ATLS is Horse's life story. It shows how he became that man we met in TF/TD. The reasons why he became the man he did, the loves and losses he's faced along the way.
I wont go into the plot, you need to read it to get the full effect. But trust me when I say that this book is utterly gripping. It's deliciously dark and twisty, but the love that shines through that dark? wow, it's beautiful.
Ace is a genius at writing these dark tales, but making them heart warming in a way not many can manage. Her writing is a kind of gritty poetry at times, and ATLS is her best work to date.
ARC generously provided for honest review. 5 STARS
I am blown away with the fact that Ace can write dark and twisted in such a flawless way. I bow down to you, this is hands down my absolute favorite novel by you to date.
I was so excited when I heard that Horse would have his own story. I loved him in Twisted Fate and Twisted Death but never had enough of him. I love that we were taken back to his childhood and we got to experience Horse from his youth to adulthood. We get to see how he became to man that he is, the loyal, caring, lovable, dark “monster”. I fell in love with him even more because of this.
This story had my emotions all over the place, it was intense, it was sexy, it was dark and it was heartbreakingly beautiful. I didn’t want to put it down once I started.
If you are NOT someone who is turned off by raw and dark, this is a definite must read. If you are on the fence, well I would highly recommend this book. As raw and messed up as it can be, Ace is able to make it beautiful.
This can be read as a standalone but I would really suggest reading Twisted Fate and Twisted Death first.
The introduction to this book should say: Welcome, folks, to Hell, where death and murder is beautiful, where savagery is gloriously exalted, and where lust mixes with love in a tender brutality that is exquisitely pristine and the closest to Heaven these fools will ever get.
Author Ace Gray created a world that felt like some faraway land, set apart from the one as we know it, or like I would imagine Hell is lived, its inhabitants not knowing that’s where they were. I have never read a book like this.
I almost felt like I needed to slap myself back to reality at times while reading this. I got so sucked into the book that it seemed too easy to believe that life portrayed in this book was the norm. That killing was an everyday occurrence, that men were okay with sharing their bodies with other men as much as they did with women, and that orgies weren’t taboo. Add in the drugs and the chaos that they cause a mind, and I felt like I was Alice falling through the rabbit’s hole. I was so wrapped up in being in Horse’s, the male protagonist, head that reality would overwhelm me whenever I resurfaced from the book. Where am I again? It was heady.
I didn’t know this book was part of a series. This is the first one I read, and I have to say, if the author hadn’t mentioned it in the beginning of the book, I wouldn’t have known. Well done!
Ace Gray gives us the stages of Horses life in a Twisted Love Story from the origin to the finale. We get to go on some of the wild ride that is Horse.
Horse (yes that’s his real name) is from the typical abused crappy family and one day while trying to toss shoes onto a phone wire he meets Cole. This is where the two meet and fall down a rabbit hole into sex and drugs and so much mayhem. Horse always knew his feelings but Cole took some time to convince. We see the love he has for Callum and the eventual heartbreak of lost loves. It’s a journey of love and redemption.
This story like the rest of the fairy tales are twisted and disturbing. We didn’t know we really needed Horses story until now. It’s not all debauchery which these books have a lot of but you see that he has a very large heart underneath it all. Everything he does is for a greater good. This was a good conclusion to the journey that is Elle, Cole, Horse and Conrad.
What a beautifully twisted fairy tale in deed! Wow, I am still in a daze after reading this book! I seriously felt so many emotions while reading Horse's story and honestly I was balling my eyes out the last 10%. Am not even sure where to start with this one... am a lover of Dark Romance and A Twisted Love Story had it all, and then some! I devoured this book in a day, it seriously took over my world. Horse (which is the strangest name I have come across in a book) is SO AMAZING! I couldn't help but fall in love with him. His heart is so big, and he just wants to be loved... Ugh it broke my heart. I seriously can't brag enough about this twisted, poetic, dark romance!
On top of all that this is the first book I have read by Ace Gray! HOW HAVE I NOT READ HER PREVIOUS BOOKS?! This book can be read as a standalone, but I will be going back and reading Twisted Fate and Twisted Death. There are parts that I need to know about Cole and Elle's story!
If you are a lover of not your everyday HEA's, M/M, M/M/F, Dark and Intense reads, I highly suggest picking this book up! I wasn't sure what I was going into when I started this book but it turned out to be a crazy roller coaster thrill ride! And I loved every minute of it!
I've been with Ace on this dark twisted ride from the beginning. In the beginning I loved Cole, I'm sure lots of us did. I saw him a little different than some of you probably and that's ok. I liked Horse, he was cool, strong and smart when he needed to be quiet.
But in this story I fell for Horse so hard, without even knowing that I would. I wanted to focus on his love for Cole to bring him back. Boy was I wrong! Horse was so Pure he had no idea. A little boy jus begging to be loved, to have a family. And in the end Horse was the one, the one who stole my heart, made me die a thousand deaths, cry so many tears. Even look up and exclaim why. I didn't want to like Conrad either by the way, cause I thought of him as taking Horse away from the Family he should be with all along. But I grew to like him, felt his pain and weeped for him in time of the worst sorrow.
And the poetry in this book, I haven't read much since I was a teenager, the words that were written in this book - such devotion, so much love! Gah! I'm gonna cry again!!!
I'm so glad Ace took her time to get us this story, it will resonate with me as I'm sure it will you. Is there more to tell in this story....Fuckin cats I hope so!
Get ready to sink your teeth into this decadently dark romance. This is book three in the Twisted Fairy Tale series but can also be read as a standalone. It has all the blood, violence and sexual deviance you would expect after the first two novels but somehow in its own twisted way is slightly more romantic if you could use that word to describe the gloriousness of Horse and his longing for love and acceptance. After reading this novel my previous infatuation with Horse has turned into full blown devotion and hero worship and I can’t get enough of his damaged, deviant, kinky, loving and protective soul. Great read! Not for the faint hearted. If you love a dark erotic and bi-sexual read than this is definitely for you.
If you are looking for rainbows and sunbeams you better find another story to read. But, if you are looking for a dark Horse and a twisted road to love and redemption and black knights this for you. I cried, like broke down I am still teary eyed over the top emotional. So glad I took a chance on this super hero, almost makes me think In have been in love with the wrong one all these years.
4 1/2 Cream Pie Stars! This was my first read by Ace Gray and I absolutely loved it! The story kept me engaged from page one.
I loved watching the friendship between Horse and Cole develop. The good times, the bad times, and everything g in between...they are the true definition of life long friends.
Going into this story I hadn’t read the other Twisted books so there were some parts that I felt a little lost, but nothing major. It definitely can be read as a stand-alone.
This was a fantastic read that I couldn’t put down. I had to know what was going to happen! Whether you’ve read the other Twisted books or not you’re definitely going to want to one click and add this one to you TBR list! I’m
Holy titfire. Parts of this book were really hard to read and other parts of it were so beautiful that they made me tear up. This isn't a typical love story but it most certainly is a story about love and how it comes in many different forms.
The perfect amount of dark, twisted, wicked and beautifully intense. Ace Gray proved that my eyes can pop out of my head with the amount of F’d-up-bite-at-your-nails-kind of madness. This was one epic and gritty read that had me screaming f’ing CATS.
Horse 🐴🐴 FINALLY got his story!!! And boy it was a WILD ride!!! This is another twisted story in the Twisted series! And it was amaze balls!!! You get Love Heartbreak Love and more Love. Ohh and more heartbreak! This book will keep you on your toes the whole ride! I would definitely recommend!!!
