Graduating from Sherubtse College, Bhutan's premier college nestled in the Himalayas, Rinzin finds himself scared by the thought of his unknown future, a blank slate as he describes. His quest for a job takes him far beyond his expectation of a life after college. Set in Bhutan, Delhi, London and Scotland, Home Shangrila tells a story about magic, dreams and the treasures we seek elsewhere and then find it at our doorstep.
The novel stands out because of the earnestness with which the author relates the struggles of a student from Bhutan. Detailed review in my blog here: https://chaitraworldreadingseries.wor...
"𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗯𝘆 𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗜 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗵𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻". Thank You dear author for reminding us the tranquility, peace and satisfaction we feel back at home under the glorious rule of the Wangchuck Dynasty and of course, it is indeed the last shangrila.
I can relate completely with the author. In fact some of the incident I had experienced are exactly the same. Some lines were inspiring and motivating. Over all its a good read.
Read only if you are looking for a book set partially in Bhutan.
MC wonders why he can’t get a scholarship even though he’s at the bottom of his class with a fraction above passing. Lies in interviews. Thinks it’s okay to plagiarize since he’s sick and has an assignment due. Calls multiple people “fat”. Each chapter is basically a list of where the MC goes each day, what he eats, and what he does. No plot or characterization.
