Riversong #2

Soft Kisses and Birdsong

Rate this book
Years ago, he walked away from the only woman he had ever loved because he feared she wouldn’t want a man who’d failed.

She numbly tried to move on with her life. And is finally beginning to feel she can face the future.

Zaire Breckenridge can’t believe it when her lout of an ex-husband walks back into her life, claiming he’s a changed man. Worse than his invading the sanctuary of her town—the town they both grew up in together—is the fact that he’s invading the peace she finds at church. There really ought to be a rule. The heartbreaker should never be allowed to move back to town.

Landon Breckenridge knows that he’s made a mess of his life. But he also knows that finally surrendering everything to Jesus was the best decision he ever made. He aims to be a better person, and certainly a better witness to his friends and those who watch his rock climbing show on TV. Now if only he can convince the woman he loves to take him back. But if she won’t? Will Jesus be enough?

Sometimes the river of life cascades into a torrent of white-water. And sometimes it levels out on the other side, flowing smooth and slow, like soft kisses…and birdsong.

This contemporary, sweet, clean romance will take you to small-town America, where the neighbors all know each other's business, and the police chief's biggest worry is where to find his next fishing hole.

This was a really good story that kept me turning pages to see if and how reconciliation was going to work for these two. Landon was a changed man, now devoted to God and hoping to make things right with the wife he walked out on. I could really sense his regret for what he had done. I felt so bad for Zaire and the hurt and confusion she was left with when Landon walked out. I could definitely understand her concerns about being able to trust Landon. Good story!

Worth the read

This is a great book showing both sides of a marriage/divorce where one spouse walked away then realized his mistake. The regret he felt and wondering how he would ever live with the consequences were clearly depicted. Her inability to forgive much less trust him again was also easy to relate to. I thought the book was well-written and worth the read.

Soft Kisses and Birdsong, my first book to read in this series by Lynnette Bonner, has me hooked. The town of Riversong and it’s charming people remind me a bit of Jan Karon’s Mitford nostalgia — but definitely younger.

Zaire & Landon have a lot of hurt & pain to process in their relationship. Will they get back together? Landon has to hold back on pushing Zai his way to “yes!” She needs room to decide and he needs God to be his source like never before while he waits.

Zia just got her life put back together and has joy in a successful business. Dare she risk it all — again, with the only man she ever loved?!

B&B owner & best friend, Salem, and her parents walk this road with Zia. It’s a rough one, but it is worth the journey. Enjoy!

Lynnette Bonner has become one of my favorite authors and once again she wrote a wonderful book.
Forgiveness is probably one of the hardest thing a person has to do. Especially if it’s a husband walks out of his marriage. Zaire learned to accept what happened to her marriage and had move on. Now he’s back after two years and claims he’s changed and wants a second chance.
What an awesome story of forgiveness, accepting God’s will even if it’s not what you want. There was excitement, danger, a VERY upset mother, great friendships and the love of our Father interwoven throughout the book.
Can’t wait to read the third book in this series.
Once again five stars for Lynnette Bonner.
I received a free copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own and I wasn’t compensated for my opinions.

How does one cope after their husband walks away from their marriage with no explanation? Zaire is devastated and finally is able to make a new life for herself. Then after two years he’s back in town saying he has changed. Not only does Landon say he has changed and is sorry for hurting her, but wants another chance to mend their marriage. No way can she trust this guy and although she denies it, she still loves him. Bonner has written a beautiful story on forgiveness with God’s help. Sometimes a person has to step back and pray for the Lord to show them what they need to do and then follow through with His help……The author kindly gifted me with this book and the review is completely mine.

He left her and now he's back to see if he can get a second chance.

Landon feared that she would walk away from him, so he walked first. Of course he had a ton of excuses why it was the right thing to do. But now he's had a life changing experience and this is where God wants him to be. Can he convince Zaire to take him back and trust that he won't leave again though? And why are her parents to against him?

I love Lynnette Bonner's books and how well she develops her characters and plots. It's a good stand alone book, but even better if read with the series. Clean, fun, inspirational without getting too preachy. A quick read without being fluff!

Sweet and forgiving are the two words I would use to describe Soft Kisses and Birdsong! This is the second book I've read by Lynnette Bonner and I have enjoyed both of them! Landon and Zaire are well-written main characters. Zaire is still hurting from their divorce but building a new life. When Landon moves back to town, she has to explore her feelings. Zaire's parents reveal things she never knew about her family. Zaire learns that forgiveness is freeing. I recommend Soft Kisses and Birdsong to anyone who enjoys contemporary fiction. I received a complimentary e-book from the author. This is my honest opinion.

Zaire and Landon’s story is truly amazing. You will feel God working throughout this whole book. Zaire is afraid to let Landon back into her life. Watching her try to avoid him will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. The characters in this story are very special people. I had the honor to review this book for the author for a honest review. I would give this book a higher rating than a five star review if I could.

Reconciliation personified

Once again the characters have real issues and legitimate difficulties with reconciliation both with those that have hurt them and with God. I love how they listen to God, even when they don’t understand what He’s saying at the time. There are some very good points to ponder in this one.

3.5 Stars. It was a good second chance book. She made him wait a sufficient period of time (never give in too quickly). The end snuck up on me. It seemed to end quickly.

There is a lot of faith speech in this book. That is fine for me but not everyone's cup of tea.

Beautiful!

Soft Kisses and Birdsong is a beautiful second chance romance and continuation of the Riversong series. “Is Jesus enough?” Watching Landon work through this question had me doing heart searching of my own.

This is a really good book. I love the fight for a second chance because the person is so much better now. I did a bit confused between the guys but I love the sweet forgiveness of second chances.
